There are a few instances in this Q & A where I could not hear what the student was saying as there were issues with the microphone. Also in hindsight I feel I have left out a very big point and that is the fact that what we are fighting against is systemic. If we change the system from cruel to what we perceive as less cruel, that does not benefit for the victims. Comparing this systemic violence to something like capital punishment (which is an isolated incident) is also not a fair comparison.
For isolated incidents where the victim is innocent and we are unable to save their life, it makes sense to find a way to reduce their pain and suffering. But demanding for that when it comes to systemic violence only normalises the continued use and abuse against them and does nothing to help them out of the system. I really regret not adding this point during the Q and A session.
