ISO a Better Bathroom Light Fixture

I wanted a light for the bathroom that was bright, dimmable, X-10 controllable, and well dispersed. I had tried a variety of bulbs in the original jelly-jar type fixture without satisfaction. I even looked for a halogen bulb but they seem to be getting hard to find and I was unable to find a bulb brighter than a 40Watt equivalent. I was even trying to blame the original fixture for some of the LED and X-10 oddities so I started looking at fixtures.

Not the same model as yours, but I had a couple of these fail, one driver, the other LEDs. Hopefully the quality of yours is good. I have a big 18" round fixture over the kitchen table and so far it's holding out after three years. I went back to regular ceiling fixtures with sockets in other locations so I can screw in any bulb. It's a pain changing out dead fixtures.

And I always preach that, however I just couldn't get a bulb to behave there. It was with great pain I added those bulbs back into the already huge collection of bulbs in the closet. Kind of tempted to change two more over to this generic dome style as they spread light very evenly. I was amused to see these fixtures used all over Mom's assited living apartment.

Glad you found a light that works. I am in the process of getting rid of X-10 fixtures because they are failing - the controller and the remotes. I just recently had a remote operated (with battery powered button) and it does not work. I would buy some more X-10 modules but, I think there is another remote/ command that is not X-10 based so I am confused about non-compatible systems.

The patents on X-10 expired long ago so anyone can make it. If it has the same familiar two dials it is probably compatible. There are several other more modern systems out but none have become very popular as they are expensive. There is also two-way X-10 stuff if more reliability is needed but it gets back to being expensive and unpopular. WiFi, Bluetooth, and ZigBee-controlled stuff have largely displaced older home automation standards. The popularity of Switch-mode power supplies and the noise they make is a big challenge for X-10 communication.
