Just isolating the linework from the background in order to avoid compromising the linework if any changes need be made

These steps transform a black-and-white layer into a black-and-transparent layer, so the gray pixels turn into semitransparent black instead of a muddier semitransparent gray.

The 1st has a white background, or a background for that matter, meaning that it will cover any layer beneath it. The second (final product) has no background whatsoever, meaning is transparent. A see through if you will. Think like in the physical world, the first one is the drawing on a white paper (bond, sketch pad, canvas etc). The second one would be the drawing on a transparent acrylic sheet. Makes sense?

If this was the case 50/50 I would change devices xD though I have gained a love for the apple pencil feel wise not too thin and not too bulky. IPad is cheaper than intros hybrid models, so it's a bit difficult still the idea would be amazing ESPECIALLY if they challenged Adobe further (yes I DESPISE Adobe's monopole on the market and their micro pricing allowing for ypu not to own your software...not to mention the sketchy AI 'art' learning stuff you apparently have to opt out of every time you open the program. Love procreate and love how they made it for the artist/designer in mind!

@@mbn915 where in the comment did I say you were broke? iPad are more expensive meaning less people are gonna buy them. Procreate is only on the iPad. Which is why I said “I know a lot of people don’t have money to spend on Apple” That’s because to get Procreate you would basically have to buy an iPad just to have Procreate. Also, I have the ninth generation iPad which cost me $329 which is about the same as an entry-level Samsung tablet so you don’t have to have big money to buy an iPad. You have to have big money to buy Procreate because basically you’re buying Apple just to get procreate.

@@houndgirl7365 honestly, everyone is loving the new Samsung S9 ultra literally I’ve seen Hella creators saying I’m switching over to android because of it. For me, the only con would be not having Procreate because I’m so used to it and that’s what I got introduced to when I started using digital art. But of course, like anything you can learn.

Yes, it’s exactly the same. But had you not drawn the layers separately, and instead drawn the lineart on a white background, this trick is perfect.

@@andtipidee you could also turn that layer you drew in to multiply layer and turn off the background and save it as PNG or make a new layer underneath it if you have other things to draw

This can work for drawings you make on paper traditionally first, then you take a photo or scan it and bring it to procreate to color. Some people prefer traditional linework with digital color

The backround and lineart layer are merged into one

I had the same thought, but this seems like a good save if you accidentally end up drawing on your background layer or combining them and then saving, so a useful save if something should go wrong
