Isopods that Mimic Spiders? Armadillidium klugii and A. werneri

Armadillidium klugii and Armadillidium werneri are thought to be Batesian mimics of a spider, Latrodectus mactans tredecimguttatus, which is in the same genus as the black widow.

I bought a set of A. werneri Orange and had just trusted the seller that they weren't just orange clowns. I had looked around online more to see if others were also selling these 'orange werneri' because I am still learning species and their variations. So this video was a relief for me to watch and learn a bit more about variations! Thanks!

They are such beautiful lines of isopods. Easily a favorite in all forms. I have orange and montenegro and just adore these! Mine have just started growing young colonies. With new groups of youngsters. They are so stinking cute.

@@Aquarimax i didn't even know there was a separate lines from montenegro. I'm now very curious about the bee type red lines. So cool. Dubrovnik sounds awesome. I wanted to purchase the orange werneri but they were rather costly so when I found the klugi orange reasonably priced, I jumped at the opportunity.

@Rareplymouth there is also a ‘Slano’ locality of A. klugii, but I don’t have it yet. A. werneri are amazing! I had a thriving colony, but in an effort to focus more on species I can ship, I sold them. I miss them, though!

Maybe some longer video - "species profile / care guide" on A. werneri? Are they similar to A. klugii in other aspects than the look? Are they good for beginners? How active they are? Are they day active or night active? How fast do they breed?...

Yes! The Glomeris genus likely contains models for isopod species such as Armadillidium maculatum and A. gestroi.

Hey Rus, I am curious if you ever heard of or experience isopods biting snake tails? My garter snakes tail tip recently got slightly damaged with some bleeding, and I am not sure if the isopods did it or not. I have isopods and springtail in enclosure. arma-Gestroids. Thank you

I haven’t heard of isopods biting garter snake tails, and Armadillidium gestroi are not known for being particularly food aggressive.
