Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you’re new here, my name’s Rachel and I’m a huge Eurovision fan as well as a musician.
In today’s video, I reacted to Israel’s entry for Eurovision 2023, ‘Unicorn’ by Noa Kirel.
So instrumentally, this one has been produced really well. I especially like the sound design of the synths in the second verse, and vocally it’s strong. The use of strings in a sampled way is also a nice touch and makes the song more unique and well thought out.
However, the notes used in the chorus are very restrictive and lacked exploration.. It feels like it could have been more decorated, used more variation and sequencing to make it more interesting. The piano was quite monotonous as well, using a basic two note ostinato pattern to add an additional layer that wasn’t needed.
The ending of the song was a nice surprise though, the change up of the rhythms and signature was a great way to give the song a new lease of life.
