Quick semantic (but somewhat important) correction. The Lebanon, Gaza etc, are under the claim of "Historic Israel", whereas the more extremist (and mostly ridiculed) "Greater Israel" spans well beyond aforementioned claims. The misconception is often utilized in (any sides') propagandist outlets, rather than analytical ones, so I thought for once it might be worth mentioning

Israel's propaganda about this being a "limited ground incursion" is exactly what Israel also said during its 1982 invasion of Lebanon, which ended in an 18-year occupation of Southern Lebanon. Will be interesting to see if this revitalizes Hezbollah which was created as a result of the 1982 Israeli invasion.

Difference is that one wants to take land and declared their intent to do so in a vote. If they really wanted to "I" would have taken land in 2006 war. Resolution 1701 was accepted by all parties. But one side didn't do their side of the bargain. They remained on the border and not behind the river and have built up massive infrastructure for their forces. On 10/8, for the last 11 months, strikes have been occurring on Northern region of the nation. They have received warnings for almost a year to cease their actions. They did not listen. Now they will pay the price of their actions. They had 18 years since 2006 to fulfill the terms of Resolution 1701. Now a few days back they want to implement it? What type of twisted logic is that? It's too late.

To those trying to draw comparisons between Israel and Russia's "special military operations", keep in mind all those rockets and missiles Ukraine launched into Russia before they finally were coerced to attack. Oh wait...that didn't happen. In Ukraine. It has happened so many times to Israel that they had the time and the will to develop TWO anti missile systems that are clearly better than anything Russia has yet to field.
