The young girl, Afaf, was incredibly impressive - her eloquence , even temper and ability to convey her message in a measured, persuasive manner was excellent
Did anyone else watch the DDN live stream yesterday with a Palestinian leader and Jeremy Corbin? Everyone who called him an anti Semite should watch that and hang their heads in shame.
I'm ashamed to be British at the moment. Our government doesn't give a hoot for the loss of life if the faces of the dead are brown. Our media is only interested in pretending its a "both sides" 50/50 issue then pivoting to getting people to condemn Hamas (who are reprehensible by the way). Where has our decency gone? where is the compassion for hundreds of innocent men women and children being killed? perhaps in our current society that compassion is reserved for those with white skin.
“The last paradox is that the tale of Palestine from the beginning until today is a simple story of colonialism and dispossession, yet the world treats it as a multifaceted and complex story-hard to understand and even harder to solve.” ― Noam Chomsky
Well done to you and your amazing guests Owen, please keep your energy and your exceptional talent focused on the Palestinian struggle for freedom and self-determination. We are all, as a collective, prisoners of this injustice until all Palestinians are free.
The interview with Afaf really broke my heart. That her 9 year old brother is having post videos about the devastation they're experiencing, is not how a 9 year old child should be living. Solidarity with Afaf and fellow people. ✊
The fact that the whole family packs into one room so that they will die together if they get hit........ I'm so sorry the world allows this to happen :'(
@@youtubeareleftwingsellouts9281 and if Israel stops illegally occupying and bombarding Palestine with modern western weapons it will end. Simple as that.
The more you listen to first-hand accounts, the more and more uncomfortable it feels to be represented by a government that is not condemning/is condoning what's going on. Excellent show, Owen.
It is so heart warming and very sad at the same time, to see a young Palestinian who should be able to enjoy peace with her family, friends and fellow citizens but instead, has to live through 4 wars of aggression, only to satisfy the West and the EU in their attempt to keep this monster of a regime and to maintain their supremacy and use this regime to terrorize any attempts on behalf of the Arab world to gain independence and give back Palestine to the Palestinians and not the armed, crazed settler occupiers.
Grassroots connecting with grassroots. Seeing the scenes is Glasgow recently- and the amounts that came out yesterday really gives me hope that we can chip away at this mammoth power and reverse their affects. Keep plugging away people 🇵🇸🇬🇧
Great show Owen, thankyou for talking to the voices that matter most in this discussion very powerful words especially from Afaf & although very heart breaking to hear about all the death & destruction very important to hear the truth from those living it. Keep up the great work on being one of the few trustworthy journalists we have in UK media from a very proud leftie socialist.
Thanks Owen great guests, would be great to hear from some left wing Israeli voices as well who have been resisting but marginalised by their government.
@@nihilistcentraluk442 there would be a much stronger voice for non-violence if Palesinians weren't having their homes destroyed and stolen by settlers. See where this goes?
The intransigence and frankly extreme provocation represented by the Israeli govts armed support and enablement of the illegal settlements is a major stumbling block to any meaningful negotiations! Most Western Governments are and have been complicit in the establishment and maintenance of this "stumbling block . Why is it that it is the Israeli Govt that has the right to defend itself and not Palestine and the Palestinian people?
Thanks Owen for highlighting this topic. It is apparent you are educated and well read, Ilan pappi. I just dropped a song about this which was immediately suppressed by RU-vid by making it an over 18.
Thank you to the amazing guests. It's hard to comprehend what it must be like growing up under such oppression but still having the energy and eloquence to fight back. Thanks Owen for letting the oppressed tell their truth.
This is a very intelligently presented and genuine piece of journalism on what is the real core issues in Palestine. It gives the actual citizens of Gaza the voice to speak about their lives there.
Can you do a little clip of the last things she said (how to help)? It is something that people might watch, because it is shorter, and hopefully it will help.
Rashid Khalidi would be a great guest to discuss the history of Palestine. We'd then get a real understanding of just how narrowly our mainstream media reports the region.
This was great. So informative for people outside of Palestine. And, as troublesome as the internet is sometimes, how amazing that it’s provided a platform for someone there to tell us what exactly we can do to help.
“Labour” “For Palestine not Pontefract.” Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go to bed as I’ve got to be up early to operate a pneumatic Jack-hammer and get some dirt under my fingernails.
Absolutely brilliant Thankyou for this Owen. This is the first episode of your show I’ve watched and certainly won’t be the last! Free Palestine 🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸🇵🇸
Can we please have a detailed discussion about *"The Balfour Declaration"* (And some of the history surrounding that, now, 104 year old document) Please??
@@for111 Because is has historical relevance. You should know what this means by now. Unless you’re one of those cult homeschooled type where history to too uncomfortable to teach.
I am a great fan Owen and not a great fan of Netanyahu and want a peace with honor fairness and justice but Ms. Sharqawi refers to the whole of Israel as Palestine, and places like Haïfa as occupied. She has a right to think how she likes but I don’t believe that thinking will build cooperation and peace as it basically means there should be no Israel. There are many Palestinians who have a much more inclusive and realistic idea of how to make peace with a two state solution. I think we need to hear more from those who are on both sides and less from those who just take one side.
When will the truth be told in the West, in our own country about what’s happening everyday to innocent Palestine people ? I am totally ashamed of my country, the BBC and Keir Starmer
@Owen - The thumbnail to this video wouldn't display for me when I tried to post the link to Facebook, and obviously nobody clicks on a link without an image or a heading.
in Norway we tend to remind Israel that if the shoe was on the other foot and Israelis were forced to exist in the Gaza Strip and West Bank for 70 years. While being harassed humiliated and bombed by a regional military super power - then we would stand with the residents of the Gaza Strip and West Bank.
I think people get it thru their thick heads that hamas is a resistance which they have EVERY right !! What do they expect these people to do!! They have been held hostage for decades!!
I get the message but War does not have to be equal to be deemed a war. If the initial attacker (hamas in this case) starts it, fully knowing that it’s not comparable in terms of strength to Israel, thats Hamas been dumb thinking it can take on the vast military might of Israel. War are often not fought between equally strengthens militaries, they is always one with an advantage. This is still a war between Israel and hamas.
Anyone who criticises Palestinian’s response to occupation should be asked what they would do if they were a Palestinian livingin the occupied territories.
I didn't like the way owen talked to niko omilana. However, he has earned my respect now as someone willing to share an alternative narrative against the disproportionate activities of israel.
I mostly agree with you Owen but I do have one question: When are you going to stop looking as though you're twelve?! I'm only ten years older than you and you wouldn't look out of place with my son's mates! 😂
If this is what Hamas was saying I could agree with you, if they said ok, I want Israel to leave their occupation of the West Bank and open borders with Gaza. Turns out that is not what they are saying, they are saying something different, they are saying they want Israel to leave it's occupation of Lod, of Haifa, of Tel Aviv. So the israelis don't act according to your perspective because it is not you that they are fighting.
Interesting title....I always thought that the country that fired weapons into a country first is the ones that “wage the war”, but then again we also live in a world where apparently men can have babies so....
@@SteveDorrans It was a suggestion friend. A debate consists of two sides. not one. The title itself is misleading when Hamas started the war. Israel left Gaza in 2006.
@@cyriljohnson-peter2633 Yes mate, that's right. It all started with some rockets fired from Gaza for no reason. Absolutely nothing happened to any Palestinians in East Jerusamem and zero mosques were attacked by Israel immediately beforehand. If only someone could get on the mainstream media to make that case, eh?
@@SteveDorrans The Sheikh Jarrah case has been in the courts since 1972. Theres absolutely no need need to start a rocket barrage right now. Am not sure if u are aware of the rocks and fireworks flying down from the mosque before the police stormed in. Lastly, nothing, absolutely nothing, justifies 1500 rockets fired into a civilian airspace in one day. Thats literally defending terrorism. The title is still misleading. Israel did not start the war. Israel is fighting a defensive war right now.
@@cyriljohnson-peter2633 Are you aware of when the Israelis first occupied Palistine? Somewhat earlier. Maybe you should do your research? Which other nation has accepted an occupying force for so long?
Let's look at reality ... there is no Palestine the country has long been conquered, now there is only Israel. You might think its wrong, you might be sad and angry about it ... but the reality is that is the truth. Sure there are going to be those that can't accept it, obviously there is a resistance hence the fighting. But as everyone keeps saying, the people fighting to "free Palestine" are insanely out matched. Again I imagine it is difficult to accept "we have lost" and that "your country" is no more, so in that sense you can understand the futile fighting ... but the fighting is futile ... how many Hamas rockets do you think it will take to defeat Israel / the Israeli military? Obviously you know the answer to that question, as people on "the left" keep saying its not a war (Palestine lost ages ago). Do you think protesting on the street or boycotting products is going to make the Israeli government say "oh okay, we will step down and all the people that call themselves Israeli will leave and you can have "your" country back" ... it's done now. Palestine has already been colonised ... the best that the "Palestinian people" could have hoped for was a two state solution, but is increasingly looking like they are going to be wiped out and left with nothing. And guess what, unless you happen to be in charge of a country that is a military super power, then there is nothing you can do about it. Accept reality people.
