The Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing in southern Gaza has been seized by Israeli forces, blocking the flow of crucial aid to displaced civilians.
Israel’s army has released footage of tanks rolling through the empty checkpoint, raising Israeli flags.
It is unclear when the crossing, which has been an important route for food, water and medical supplies over the last seven months of the conflict, will be reopened.
With the nearby Karem Shalom crossing closed earlier this month, the UN has emphasised that this had “choked off” aid and predicted that current supplies will only last around a day.
Ceasefire negotiations are continuing in Cairo, with Hamas officials warning a truce will not be possible if aggression continues.
