One day, an officer approached one of his subordinates and offered him a pack of cigs to clean up soiled diapers around the camp. The soldier refused the cigarettes, but said he would do it if he could make a phone call to his mother instead. “Alright, you’ve got ten minutes” the officer told him. The soldier went onto the roof of the building where his platoon was stationed. While he was speaking on the phone, he was spotted by a sniper and picked off. The story moved the public, and a news crew was sent to interview his mother. “How did it happen?” they asked her. “It's such a cruel twist of fate!” the soldier’s mother told the reporters: “My son doesn’t even like cigarettes and, as a result, he got smoked.”
