Want to know what Israelis and Palestinians in the Middle East really think about the conflict? Ask a question and I will get answers.
People ask Israeli Jews, Arabs and Palestinians questions. I go out and ask random people to answer.

As an Irishman for over 60yrs I am shocked to hear people mention beer and whiskey is what cones into their mind when they think of the Irish. Let's get this straight, we irish only drink on two occasions, - when we're thirsty, and when we're not.

@Jamie Fogarty To use the propaganda word of apartheid oversimplifies the situation by ignoring the historical context, and dismisses responsibility of the situation away from Palestinians. Since the Oslo Accords of 1995, the Palestinians have had civil, judicial and police control over 97% of their populace in all of their major cities (Area A), and they are entitled to control their own taxes and utilities, but have not chosen to do so. The Palestinian Authority control Palestinian West Bank cities and town. Gaza is under the control of Hamas, there is no Israeli authority or military there. They departed in 2005. Jewish residents were forced to leave in a genuine act of apartheid, none can live under the PA or Hamas for fear of their lives. Yes, freedom of movement is an issue, however due to the security situation, ie Hamas declaring war on Israel by firing 20,000 rockets and mortars at it since 2005, or such things as Palestinian suicide bombings which murdered 805 Israelis from 1993-2007, or the Knife Intifada whereby Palestinians went rampaging in Israeli cities stabbing and ramming cars into civilians, Israeli security measures become justified. There were final status peace talks held in 2000 at the Camp David Summit, whereby a Palestinian state was to be created, Arafat rejected the peace plan, and started the second intifada which killed thousands. Then in 2008 Abbas rejected another peace proposal from then prime minister Ehud Olmert.

Ireland's view of Israel is complicated. Anti-Semitism isn't really a factor. Our views on Israel tend to be political rather than racial. We're pragmatic when it comes to Israel's right to exist. We don't really care if it has a right to exist or not. The fact is, it does exist and whether it should or not is irrelevant. Our relationship with Israel is generally pretty good. Israel are trading partners (not major ones but that's due to geography rather than politics) and there is no animosity towards the Israeli people. Israeli policies on the other hand are a different matter. Our own government is very reluctant to criticise Israel because of Ireland's close ties with the US but there isn't a whole lot of love for the Israeli government in Ireland, mostly due to how it deals with Palestine. Most Irish absolutely condemn Palestinian militants but there is as much, if not greater condemnation of Israeli military operations in Palestine. In Ireland, the biggest obstacle to overcome to achieve peace between Israel and Palestine is seen to be Israel, due to their hard line stance, illegal blockade and various war crimes committed against the Palestinian people. We know a little something about occupying forces in Ireland and seeing Israeli settlements pushing further and further into Palestinian territory is not something the Irish people could ever support. We also have an issue with Mossad, given that their agents have used Irish passports on missions. That did not go over well in Ireland, especially since Ireland is a declared neutral country, whose military only engages in UN peacekeeping missions. Let me be clear though. There is a distinction between policy and people. The Irish people generally don't support the policies of successive Israeli governments but have nothing against the Israeli people.

jedsithor "We don't really care if it has a right to exist or not. The fact is, it does exist and whether it should or not is irrelevant." Jesus Christ. Is that really your answer?? Not, "Of COURSE Israel has a right to exist -- in the same way Ireland has a right to exist!! What kind of sick, repugnant MORON would stand here and tell you Israel has no right to exist? It's just some of Israel's policies we have a problem with." But you couldn't say that, could you? -- or any variation of that. Instead your answer was, "It does exist and whether it should or not is irrelevant." Unbelievable. For many people (maybe even yourself?) the world's only Jewish country just HAPPENS to be the only one whose right to exist they aren't sure about. And I'm sure that's just a coincidence.
@jedsithor
@jedsithor 9 лет назад
dbreckman People are reluctant to talk about it because it's a sensitive issue and people immediately jump down your throat. I'm speaking from a historical perspective here. Israel exists now and should continue to exist but the question is, should it have been created in the first place? The reasoning for the creation of Israel has always been dubious. Yes, there were countless European Jews who needed to be relocated after WWII and the holocaust but that could have been achieved by granting asylum in western Europe and the US. Creating a country out of thin air in a place that already has a population doesn't seem like a good idea on paper and history has revealed the often tragic consequences of that. That the Jews originated in Palestine is also irrelevant. It's not a good reason to set up a country there. Should Americans of British or Irish descent be given land in either country because it's where their ancestors are from? No, of course not. There are religious reasons for the creation of Israel too but I don't think any decisions, particularly ones that will have a profound effect, should take religious arguments into account. Yes, it's the worlds only Jewish state but that makes me as wary as countries declaring themselves to be Muslim or Christian countries. I don't believe a country should be identified by its religion. Obviously, being Jewish is as much a cultural label as it is a religious one but imagine a country declaring itself a white state. I think such labels inevitably lead to discrimination and worse and it can't be denied that the Palestinians have suffered greatly since the creation of Israel. Since the creation of Israel, it has continuously worked to expand its borders. You only need to look at the size of Israel now compared to its size when it was created. Israeli governments have often argued that such expansion was necessary to meet the needs of the population but just as with the creation of Israel, the expansion of Israel involves the involuntary displacement of a population that was already there and had a much stronger claim to the land, given that they'd been there for centuries. When I talk about Israel's right to exist, I'm talking about its creation. Should it have been created? Certainly not in the manner that it was.

I'm Irish & I enjoyed that video. Many years ago I spent time on a Kibbutz in Israel. Never had any problems with Israeli and Palestinian people alike. Nice to hear such positive impressions of us. The Israeli state and the actions of the military are not liked here (much like everywhere else) but that does not mean we hate Israelis. Irish people are like most other people. We take everybody one at a time and judge them on their own merits and not the actions of the country they were born in. For example even in that video some of the comments might leave people with the impression we hate the English. Despite having some bad history with them these days we actually get on fine with most of them.

As a visitor to Israel, for many years. I have a life long friend, who is Israeli, met him in the Sinai, and we have hiked around the world, together. As a Brit, and a “Scouser “ I have Irish/ Scottish Heritige. I really, like the comment, about Chaim Hertzog ( the first President of State of Israel) was from Ireland. ( I think his Father was the Chief Rabbi of Ireland 🇮🇪) I don’t think that many of the “ Young Interviewees “ would have been aware of that.
@Gideon01
@Gideon01 4 года назад
Chaim Herzog was not the first president of the State of Israel, he was the sixth (1983-1993). Some fun facts: 1. His father was indeed the Chief Rabbi of Ireland, spoke the Irish language fluently and was known as "the Sinn Féin Rabbi" because of his views. 2. Chaim was born in Belfast, but grew up in Dublin. 3. Herzog was Ireland's bantamweight boxing champion, before moving to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1935. 4. in WWII he joined the British Army, went to Sandhurst, and served mainly as a tank commander. He left the British Army in 1947 with the rank of Major. 5. When the State of Israel was created in 1948, he joined the IDF and retired with the rank of Major-General. Not only would most youngsters interviewed not have been aware of any of this, they probably wouldn't have even heard of Herzog.

Irish american or Irish? cause I've never seen a pro Israel rally in Ireland but I've seen plenty of pro Palestine ones! plus there's never been a boycott on Palestinian goods here! ... on a personal level i dont think anyone has any issues with people from Israel, unless they're acting the bollocks, but I would say there is very, very few people who support them in their' conflict against Palestine.

Sean Whitty I blame the religion and Zionism. A bunch of Jews fought in the IRA to free Ireland, then somehow Jews from Europe got it into their heads that they owned Arab land thousands of miles away simple because of their religion. Its fucked up. Jews and Palestinians both see parallels with what happened in Ireland. Arabs say its their land because, y'know, they live there. Jews say its their land because Judaism began there a couple millenia ago. As Catholics, or "Roman Catholics" (as Protestants insist on calling us) can we take over Rome? Or even, can we take over Israel because thats were Jesus started Christianity? How about Africa? We all came from there, can we take that over? Its madness. Irish people, like the Palestinians, are fighting off foreign invaders who want to rule and colonise land that belongs to the Irish and Arab people. Israelis and Brits portary themselves as "democratic" and "peaceful" whilst decked out in military gear armed to the teeth to impose their foreign ways on the indigenous peoples. Propaganda plays a big role in both places, whereby the British army and IDF are made to seem like "peace-keepers" and the Irish and Arabs who oppose the occupation of their lands are "terrorists". Zionists Jews and Unionist Protestants claim they were "always here" when in fact we know the plantation of Ulster took place in 1600 (plus some previous colonialism by English people before this), and hundreds of thousands of Zionist Jews poured into Palestine when the Brits took it over from 1920 onwards. Arabs and Irish people were there before them, this is well known yet we're made out to be the outsiders when Unionists and Zionists start rambling shite. Twisted bastards.

@Leona DuLac Ackermann A lot of people in Ireland support the Palestinian people because the Irish shared a similar experience under British occupation and rule for many centuries, and most remember the repression of their brothers in Northern Ireland just in the last generation. I don't think many Irish or many supporters of the Palestinian cause at all think highly of Hamas or fundamentalist Islamism but still support the plight of the people themselves. Hamas is not the only Palestinian group opposing Israel, either. Keep in mind that Ireland, both North and South, was also a land that most would consider extremely troubled and backward until very recently. It was plagued by sectarian violence and terrorism, poverty, religious fundamentalism, etc. The Church dictated many aspects of Irish life and culture well into the late 20th century so women's rights and LGBT rights were severely lacking. But they've since flourished after being given a chance at peace and prosperity, and even in the most troubled parts of Northern Ireland old enemies fight with ballots instead of bullets these days. Anyone can change and learn to live in peace if they're treated with some dignity or humanity, including the people of Palestine.

The Irish name Tracey is derived from the native Irish O'Treasaigh Septs. The name is taken from the Irish word "treasach" meaning "war-like" or "fighter". It is also translated as "higher", "more powerful" or "superior". It may also be derived from the Irish word for three, with an association to the Tuatha Dé Danann. 🍀 Some maintain that the tribe of Dan, known for its seafaring, conducted sea voyages to Ireland and colonized it as early as the period of the Judges in the 7th century BC under the name Tuatha Dé Danann. There are certain facts that suggest that the Celts might have derived from a Jewish tradition from the East. The Celtic body of ecclesiastical and civil knowledge was Druidism. Their system can be traced to about 1800 B.C. In 'The Psalter of Cashel' an ancient text written by Saint Cormac it states that: 'The Tuatha de Danaan' ruled in Ireland for about two centuries, and were highly skilled in architecture and other arts from their long residence in Greece.' 🍀🍁🍀

Thank you I’ll now have a look in judges because I very much been trying to trace the origins of the tuatha da danaan and their passage to India, but that might have been after they were forced underground to be leprechauns, in my opinion through time portals that led to the far east. Not enough space here to describe my summations that’s for another page but interesting all the same.

It’s a testament to the poor level of general knowledge and the obsessive partisan colouring of post-war events that people don’t know about how early Zionists (i.e. Jewish nationalists) were originally very inspired by Ireland and Irish nationalism - in fact the Hebrew revival was very much a hat tip to what the Irish did with Gaelic at the turn of the 20th century. “I shall be the Parnell of the Jews” - Theodor Herzl (intellectual founder of Zionism), diary entry of 20 October 1895 [Parnell = iconic Irish nationalist leader of the 19th century] Then again I am posting on RU-vid BTL, a land where I suppose it’s naive to expect anyone to be open to learning anything beyond their putrid confirmation biases.

What I found interesting is the woman who said Ireland doesn't like Israel but she likes Irish people a lot. it's great to consider people as individuals and not lump them into one category.

The Banshee and the Morrigan are much more frightening than the Leprechaun. Leprechauns are bad enough. The banshee is worse. "Ban-Shiog" means "fairy woman" in the Irish language. The Banshee has frightened Irish children for thousands of years. .

As an irishman and someone who LOVES Israel , i am SUPRISINGLY HAPPY to see so much love from there to my country . Also i do NOT agree AT ALL with most irish people who imagine that Israel is like the English opressor and all ... this is RUBBISH !!! As a matter of fact , everyone knows that the Jews have been PERSECUTED for thousands of years , and that ; in THEIR OWN land ( a lot by the surrounding muslim invaders by the way ) . Please Israelis , forgive my irish compatriots : they are naive and they know so little about you and basic middle eastern history . They are really well - meaning but naive . If they knew and weren ' t so much brainwashed by the leftists and pro - jihadists , they would NEVER think that . God bless His Chosen People !!!

Oh you're fucking ridiculous lol, nobody is denying Jews have faced persecution, they certainly have, *especially* by Muslim caliphates, but explain to me this why does that justify the theft of Palestinian land by Jews? And not Mizrahi, Middle Eastern Jews either, but pasty white Yiddish-speaking Jews of Eastern Europe, what claim do they have besides the fact they just happen to follow the same religion as King David!

@@internetual7350 Shut up dummy . First prove me that The Holy - Land belongs to the bedouins . As for history , everyone knows that in Biblical times it has always belonged to the Jews NOT arabs . After the destruction of The Second Temple the Jews were scattered into the Exodus called " The Diaspora " . So only a minority of Hebrews were left in The Land , and after the arrival of islame ; the muslim invaders took the opportunity to sneak in by force and oppress them . Then the Crusaders came to defend the Christian pilgrims and save Jerusalem from islame . Thank God for their bravery because the jihadis were persecuting both Jews and Christians . Today , the jealous and vicious muslims still try hard to end The Jewish people . But this shall not succeed !!! For islame is crumbling , their youth is leaving the desert cult by the masses . Plus the left is getting trampled upon in the West and Netanyahou is about to go back to business ...

@@internetual7350 Shut up dummy . The Holy Land clearly belongs to the Hebrews , especially since Biblical times . AT NO POINT in history did it belong to the arabs . The truth is that after the destruction of The Second Temple the Jews were expelled into the rest of the world ( Diaspora ) . Only a small native minority remained there . After islame muslims sneaked in by force and persecuted both Jews and Christians . After this the Crusaders came in to help the Christian pilgrims and save Jerusalem . Thank God for their bravery ! Unfortunately today , muslims still try hard to end The Jewish People and steal their Land . Bedouins should really return to Arabia . Good news is that islame is crumbling as their 24 % of their youth is leaving the cult and the left is getting punished in The West . Besides , Netanyahu is getting back to business ... deal with it .

@@jgdaillet79 Many Palestinians are the descendants of the ancient Jews, they merely converted to Islam and Christianity, compare that with the pasty white leaders of the Zionist movement with no claim to the "holy land" other than their bullshit religious arguments, the land of Palestine belongs to the semites, those being the Palestinians.

No. It has nothing to do with "Palestine" being like the "IRA." The Irish were under the boot of Britain for 700 years. Britain took their language, their culture, their food, their trees & resources. The Irish know oppression and injustice when they see it, and they will not go along with it. The memory of oppression by the British is too fresh in their minds. And they have something called a "CONSCIENCE" collectively as a people. And have a fierce sense of justice and fairness.

What is your point here? are you trying to compare that to the Israeli "Palestinian" conflict?
@brianmurphy5036
@brianmurphy5036 5 лет назад
@@mayale3394 I'm not comparing anything to anything. I'm saying that the comparison that the interviewer makes is WRONG. The Irish do not oppose the Israeli government's apartheid treatment of Palestinians because they identify with Palestinians as similar to the Irish Republican Army, as ERRONEOUSLY stated by the interviewer. It is because the Irish as a people are sensitive to the plight of oppressed peoples everywhere, only recently having removed Britain's boot from their face, after hundreds of years of brutal treatment by the British. I have not performed any comparison of Britain's brutal oppression of the Irish to the Israeli government's brutal oppression of Palestinians. I would not be at all surprised if the current Israeli oppression of Palestinians is WORSE THAN the treatment of the Irish by the British, when colonialism was more widespread, as opposed to being practiced by a single rogue nation.

@@brianmurphy5036 Go check the definition of 'apartheid' before you show your ignorance. Unlike what you probably see in the media, everyone lives here peacefully (most of the time) regardless of religion, race or gender. For your information, 25% of Israeli population are Christian/Muslim Arabs and they have full rights here. They have the same jobs as Jews do, they go to the same universities, and actually because they are a minority in the country they get into universities without passing any pre-exams. Arabic is the second official language in the country and every student in Israel is required to study Arabic in school from the 2th grade. Regardless of that, Israel is the only country in the Middle East that respects LGBT rights, the only one where women are equal to men, while in some countries in the region women are not even allowed to drive. it's the only country that respects every single religion, just look how Christians are treated in all the countries around Israel. the only country in the Middle east with freedom of speech, there are so many Israeli journalists criticizing the government, and guess what? no one is trying to hurt or silence them. and it's the only country that condemn terrorism acts, while the other side praises it. So the conflict with the "palestinians" is not because we have a problem with their religion, but actually because THEY have a problem accepting OUR religion, or any religion other than Islam actually. The fact is that before 1967 "Palestinians" didn't even identify as "palestinians", because it was nothing more than the name the Brits gave to this land when they controled it. 100 years ago Jews that lived here were also "palestinians". It was never their land to begin with, and now they claim all of it simply because they can't stand another religion here. For 70 years we are trying to make peace with them, if their situation is sooo bad as they like to show the world, why don't they just agree to ANY solution? I mean anything would be better than what they have now, don't you think so? but that's exactly the point. their situation isn't actually so bad, actually life expectancy in the West Bank&Gaza is higher than many European countries and I can tell you for sure that EVERY single Muslim that lives in Israel thank God everyday that they were born in Israel and not in one of it's neighbor countries, even if some of them wouldn't admit it. One thing I know for 100%, if the situation was the other way around, Jews would be thrown to the sea long time ago. So please open your eyes. Israel is not the problem in this conflict, Israel has the solution, it just that the other side would never accept it.
