Issue with Internet Recovery Mode - Command-Option-R Not Working Right

Just to let you know though that it would be recommended to still run macOS Catalina or higher if possible do the security updates since macOS Mojave will be deprecated towards the end of 2021.

@@ChristianAlvey I understand but I have very expensive music plugins that haven't worked since day one of Catalina. AIFF files no longer show Metadata since Catalina,. etc. I'm not sure what you use yours for... but Catalina had been a nightmare for music producers and I really regret updating 😂 I hope this is all fixed in Big Sur but I'm reluctant. thanks friend ✌️

@@UncleCatfish Thank you for this information I have heard people complain about Catalina before but never heard of the reasons why it is bad. I hope they would have fixed those issue in Big Sur and the upcoming Monterey release. But if this helped you out that is great.

@@ChristianAlvey yeah I only upgraded so I could use a single new feature in Logic Pro (music making software) and it was 29999 percent not worth it 😂. im not a big Mac head so I can't compare it to much.. I'm sure it's less secure in theory. but for music producers and DJs, Catalina has made a lot of. our gear obsolete until we get a patch or something and its been a long long time now with no plans to do much about it 🤔

@@UncleCatfish Yeah I understand if you need someone to help with Mac issues I can help. I haven't really messed around with Logic Pro but I do know it is part of the "Pro" software that apple produces and they do like to tie in App updates with their os updates which does cause issues with aging hardware. And I could only imagine how expensive your equipment gets.

I am so sorry for the late response. How long are you waiting for it to load it can take awhile depending on your Internet speed? Try pressing ( Command Option P R) before the chime. Your Mac should re-start and than try Command-Option-R again to see if that works. Also the next time you are able to boot in to macOS Catalina run a hard disk checking program your hard drive might be failing due to the age of the Machine.

@@samwd5039 no problem is still there but now i installed win7 32bit from dvd as its still not booting from usb and i think it will also install os x from dvd .. due to lock down i am unable to find os x dvd so i am waiting ..use dvd rom instead of usb drive and i hope your problem will be resolved ..

@@patrikhora I was searching and searching, and found a possible solution: change your router's DNS from 0.0.0.0 to 8.8.8.8. and try this process again

Alberto Contreras Zavaleta yeah it was in router’s setting, in the end i created mobile personal hotspot and it let me continue, thats how i fixed it

@@javieracorreamarfull7165 Yes I did but actually not, I just made a install usb with my pc (transmac) and installed macOS. The MacBook aluminum late 2008 does not have the internet recovery options like it looks like, I also don’t think that It was cause the uefi of the Mac was old, it had the newest Catalina and El Capitan installed. Now I upgraded my MacBook twice, first to the MacBook Pro 13 2011 with completely maxed out with dual drives, new battery, dual systems, new thermal paste and ram, my brother is using it now. I use a MacBook Pro 13 2014 with upgraded ssd and it’s more than enough for now. The first MacBook that I was talking about is now in use by my girlfriend. I don’t know if you will read it but it’s all I wanted to say 😅

@@adelina334 I ended up buying a new Hard Drive and installed the newest (supported) Operating System on it. If you get a new Hard Drive get an SSD.

I am going to try and connect to my mobile's hotspot and if that doesn't work I've heard you can also avoid the -2002f error by changing router DNS settings... I'm still having no luck selecting ethernet as a connection option and after I select my wireless I keep getting the -2002f message.

@@ChristianAlvey nope :( Same issue - Ethernet not coming up as an option for internet recovery. Just wireless options that lead to the -2002F error.

@@ChristianAlvey Breakthrough at last! Connecting to my iPhone's hotspot seemed to work instead of my regular wifi. I am now installing new macOS! Fingers crossed it goes well from here.

I don't know about that. I Just got a mid 2010 iMac to boot in to the newer version of internet recovery. I will be uploading another video soon explaining more about this situation.

Macs only from 2010 or newer get internet recovery, seeing that yours is a 2008, you won’t be able to use internet recovery

@@ChristianAlvey by any chance would u help me? I was trying to restore an old MacBook Air to factory settings because my kid got a new one and somehow I managed to screw it up. I’ve gotten as far as to enter the Wi-Fi password and now it’s taken me to OS X Utilities.

I’m having the same problem I can’t put my mac into recovery mode I have a 13 inch aluminum late 2008 Mac ??

@@ChristianAlvey mine gets past the spinning globe. Then an apple icon logo appears and nothing happens afterwards(i waited 20 min, even the caps lock LED does not respond). I have Catalina, on 2011 desktop mac. The "diskutil list" shows no recovery partition on dev0 (which is why i tried internet recovery). Any ideas?

So when you boot into Internet recovery go into utilities and terminal and try to change the time either the correct time it is currently or a time closer to when OS X Lion came out.

@@uniquegadgets8015 brother, I found my only way was buying any macbook from ebay ( $240 spended ) and I make a USB pen drive, even like that i have this message about corrupt image disk and I also found the problem can be fixed by changing the date from the terminal so the machine fix the problem matching exact date of today for exapmle
