ive made 2 comments on youtube in 15 years. its skill like this that forces me to keep telling myself that keeping time is all i need... bravo good sir
Good to see Rob here. A young drummer could watch nothing but Carter McLean and Rob Brown videos, and in 5yrs hit the ground running. In a sea of RU-vid idiots, these two guys are an absolute blessing to the drumming community.
It's called traditional jazz drumming. Look it up ... or use a search engine but not g😜😜gle. They sp👁️ on EVERYBODY!!! YES! Even You. And may black mail you , If you're all against corruption that is. Understand? If not stop being brainwashed by the Lame Stream Media. #LiberalismKills
The evolution of a drummer's ear is interesting in itself. In my college days and after I would never have played such trashy sounding cymbals. Now they sound great.
There are so few people on this planet that can make a cymbal demonstration as artistic as you just made it. You're such an underrated figure in the drumming community. I wish that would change.
...hear jazz!!! Learn jazz ...play jazz!!! If you can play jazz you can play all!!! And important is snare training!!! I know, if you learn drumming you will play all, that can you make but you can make two parts of drum learning play on set a half hour and than make a pause/stop a few minutes and than play only snare fils!!! And play it not fast that cam from itself!!! Play so 60 tempo ore lower!!! But clear ...if you make that the tempo the fast playing come from it self!!!!.... I hope i can help you! And lern from other drummer like here !!! Thats a good drummer and hear alot of musik!!! That helps crazy!!!
Man how did u tune that snare . that sound touched ma heart and went deep into my soul . its a very clean tune . and your cymbal chops are a hell shot .
Love these cymbals. Really unique sound. The 19" ride is killer. Not sure if Zildjian or Sabian has anything that can compare to these super dry, dark cymbals.
Dear Carter, this is what I would call real "playing on drums", not just hitting... you have amazing tone, technique, groove, timing... sound of drums is amazing, the same cymbals - they sound great and look cool! Good job :) Thank you!
I'll say it again... My favorite cymbals at NAMM... and Carter! Beautiful phrasing. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a cymbal demo quite so much. Thank you.
Agent McLean - it turns out that every time I witness one your videos I drift away a little bit. Upon your videos end - I return to an even brighter feeling of livelihood. As though you performed a fine, detailed calibration of my internal timing circuitry. That said - Thank You. Jack Sarasota, FL Jammer
Carter's such a great drummer! I always have a peculiar reaction to Agop cymbals. It's like I'm not quite used to what I'm hearing. Then it quickly turns to major appreciation and I fall in love. To my ears these particular ones at first sounded too dry but when Carter added the drums, man did they come alive. Not like I don't own plenty of expensive dry cymbals but it could be that the Agops are so far beyond and above the competition my ears are unaccustomed to the sound. Bottom line, I really think Agop make the finest cymbals on the market, hands down. Maybe the finest ever made. These sound phenomenal. Just wish I could afford another set of cymbals right now. :)
Yep, the Xist "Dark Dry" series are actually pretty cheap. I've got the 20" flat ride, which is basically like having a flat china. I came here to check out the 10" Xist "Dark Dry" hats, and stayed because this guy's a monster drummer...
Istanbul is so far ahead of the game with their sound it’s insaaane. I heard Justin Brown playing these too and it changed my idea of what cymbals can be.
The greatest drummers of all time put their soul into their work and performed solos that made them household names around the world This dude is really gonna blow those solos out of the water and call it a cymbals demo
No matter what stuff, gear or brand he plays I always just enjoy the great, original and tasteful way he plays. Carter is awsome. Again kind and respectful regards from a Dutch drummer. Btw the cymbals also sound great 🙃
Carter McLean, I was looking for examples of trashy ride cymbals. I landed on this video and had to listen more because I very much enjoy your playing. It makes me to really listen and want to hear more. That’s rare! Thanks, you really let these instruments sound awesome. Thanks for your inspiring me!
Oh man. After the week we’re having in the uk I’m going to put this on again as a palette cleanser. As always Carter you sound as though you take creative flow pills or something. In the zone man. Impeccable tuning, as ever, tasteful playing off the charts, jury still out on those cymbals for me. I like many of them, they’re tasty 😋 but don’t think I could eat a whole set.
I like these cymbals because they sound incredibly different than the usual sound pallate from Agop, and they look stunning! Great playing as always Carter! Thanks and Blessings!!!
Would be great to get a comparison between these new dry dark and some of istanbuls other lineup. I'm personally interested in getting more of the signature series but damn these dark dry hi-hats sound thick and smooth.
The drums are so warm and beatifully tonal that the Smokey, VERY dry cymbals are a great pairing. Doesn’t hurt that the musician playing the drums is a master.
I want to see a RU-vid super group of our favorite musicians together. My first nominations would be carter McLean on drums and Eric haugen on guitar. I’d love to see what they would come up with!
...you must hear jazz! old and modern! Bebop jazz ...than you here fills like this! ...the most important thing in drumming is ...pause (mute) stop! In fils and paradidle on snare toms and bass combination with mute parts in it! ...if you will be a good drummer learn jazz!!!! Thay have rythm (not stratage beats) play percussive, dynamics, snare fils with dynamic!!! And you learn play with all feets and hands to play seperate!!! That is important!! Jazz, swing, bebop, latin (also jazz) bosanova!!! And learn to work with short stops in fills compinatet wirh dynamic!!! Mute to full from ppp to fff ...pianopianisimo to fortefortisimo in that range, with dobblestrock, dribblestrock, dribbls, roll and than with shots and paradidle !!! That combinated with snare bass and tom with cymbal aczente!!!
