I have just come back from 3 weeks in Istanbul & I still think it is reasonably priced compared to the UK & Europe. Last year I stayed in Hotels, this year I used Air b&b. It was a lot better as I could have breakfast at the apartment & save money. I don't care how much more expensive everything is, I will come back every year. Istanbul is one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited! 😊

@BeryIstanbulTips ,I was there about 6 weeks ago , beautiful city but everywhere I went ,from restaurants to shops and bazaars all I encountered was con merchants,the yellow cabs are the worse,the whole experience has put me off completely. Having said that we did find a restaurant called Mr. COOK, not far from Florenta Hotel,fatiye area,very nice place,good food the owner is a very honest chap,didn't rip us off,you must try the place out.

We spent 3 weeks last year (July) in Turkey in Trabzon, Uzungul, Istanbul and Yalova. We paid average 50 to 60 euro per day for 3+1 bed apartment in Kadikoy. Similarly in Uzungul we paid 60 euro for 2 +1 motel and so on. This year same properties are more than double.

VAT in Turkey has recently increased by 2% and almost everything apart from taxis and very local restaurants is priced in Euros. But when it comes to paying they convert the Euro to TK Lira at a vey unfavourable exchange rate (unfavourable to you) and then your card converts it from TKL to your own currency. This process adds 10% to everything. Restaurants also add unexpected items such as table set-up charge, napkins, a view charge (if you look over the Bosphorus), bread charge, cleaning charge etc without informing beforehand. And if in a group of 4 or more people they invariably add items that were not ordered - an extra bottle of water here, or a bottle of wine there, an extra side dish that was not ordered, or small main as a starter that they charge at the full main price. And if you question the formerly English speaking waiter suddenly does not understand Engligh...! Istanbul is a lovely city, so enjoy, but be careful

There is a new tendency at places with a printed menu: different prices for locals and tourists. I go to Istanbul three times per year and I know this as a fact. I have Turkish friends and we have tested this many times. So... before they bring me a menu in English I say I am studying Turkish (which is true) and I want to practice. It works for me alright (till they figure it out, I suppose). My two cents.
@BeryIstanbulTips

This is true! I have also seen it a lot, but is a great tip for them to bring you the Turkish menu 😅 plus they cannot deny it if one asks for it.

You need to be a bit picky with the restaurants you choose. The restaurants tourists go, in touristy areas, are usually quite sh**y and locals never go there. There are many well-established restaurants and you need to look up. They are usually expensive but they charge the same for tourists and locals, and you get high quality food. Such restaurants also exist in so-called touristy areas but they don't stand in front of their restaurants and lure tourists like "come in, come in" so many tourists miss these quite well-known, well-established restaurants. As much as I hate that tendency to scam tourists, also tourists need to be mindful about where and what they want to eat.

I stayed in Istanbul from September-November 2022 and then returned from March-May 2023, and food prices were noticeably more my second three-month stay compared to late last year. (I'm away this summer, so I'm unsure how current prices compare to this spring's.) I was exchanging U.S. dollars for liras.

Everything is much more expensive than it was when I visited last year. I think that ticket for attractions are to expensive compared to Europe, 35 eur for Topkapi or 25 for galata tower is too much. And now I hear that there is new 50% increase of public transport.. Just too much. Really expensive, even for me and I'm from Europe.

I just finished two months in Istanbul. I rented a room in a shared apartment for $220 USD/month. I was in Kadiköy, and while the prices at my breakfast menemen restaurant went up three times, it was still affordable. The main ferry line has three Bosporus tours. The long one (6 hours) is still 65 Turkish Lira. In Kadiköy there's a pide restaurant called Pídem that has a pide/drink combo for 45 Turkish Lira. And the cafeterias are generally very affordable too. Thanks for the video!

We just returned from our trip to Istanbul, 8 days in total, the prices are sky-rocketing, though it was the FnB charged the most, famous restaurants in Fatih runs their prices sky high, we tasted the kebap in jar for 1630 lira , another pilaf with 4 pieces of lamb for 2745 lira, even generic restaurants in touristic area are crazy, meals for 2 person could easily go up to 700-900. Would definitely recommend renting an airbnb and utilize the kitchen for breakfast and potentially suppers. The food bill definitely broke our budget. The taxi to and from airport is all crazy price btw, pls pre-book your trip with any online airport service available. Ours from IST to kadikoy charged 1000 lira, returning trip charged 1440 as traffic jam caused us to detour using the expensive third bridge.

Nice video again. I have already responded to the prices that have changed significantly up in one year (was in IST at the beginning of June). It's true that even in Europe, in some places more, in others less, but in Istanbul it is really quite noticeable. Agree with you that it takes a bit of planning in advance (if possible) and one gets a nice accommodation at a good price (we prefer Karaköy - everything within walking distance, public transport, boats, old town, fish, alleys with hardware stores, new port, etc...great!). This year we really used the ferries a lot to explore other parts of the huge city and I have to praise Sehir Hatlari for the Nostalgic Bosphorus Tour - a beautiful day trip, great price for a boat ticket (60 Tl), a hike to the fortress, excellent fish in the restaurant in Anadolu Kavagi. Nice people in all the places we visited. Next year, probably spring, Istanbul for sure again.

I just came back from turkiye last week and spent time in Istanbul much longer than the other cities. I chose airbnb, I was bit regret it (especially in Istanbul) because even I did research on the place I stayed, it turned out different from what it seen on apps. Airbnb maybe good with young people but not with elderly. I brought my 70years old parents with wheel chair. So I need to reserved another hotel for them, because there are some apartments in Istanbul use stairs and dont have elevator. And the access on the street very hard to push the wheelchair but thank God we stayed near sultanakhmet. But overall, I love turkiye, very beautiful, the people are so nice, very helpful. Will plan another trip to this country, InsyaAllah

Hey! Thanks for the information. Can you advise how’s the weather in Istanbul during mid November (15th onwards) . Is it really foggy or very cold ? I have been told that the views are not that clear. Is it true?
@BeryIstanbulTips
@BeryIstanbulTips 10 месяцев назад
We already have a video on that. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6frhpFTjgMk.html But remember, weather is weather, unpredictable, so this video just shows what we can generally expect according to what I have experienced, that doesn’t mean that is always the same. My best tip: track a week before your trip the weather broadcast in Istanbul. You won’t believe how weather even surprises us while living here.

I was quoted 800 lira to get from grand bazaar to g hotels then walked to Eminonu ferry port got a taxi for 250 lira. Judge how much it is from your hotel to the bazaar and use that as a rough guide of how much you should be paying on the way back. Uber drivers around bazaar don't like to use metres maybe for tax reasons so make sure you know roughly how much it is to get home and agree the price before and double check 3 times.

I remember just last year, Galata tower was only ₺100(it was in February, but still), ₺650 is crazy. Also although it did increase compared to last year, $13 for 2 is still very affordable. Here in the states, that’s the price for one person at like a McDonald’s, definitely more though if you were to go to a fancier restaurant.

Hi! I have a much better option than the local companies that try to charge what ever they want in every shop. Where ever we travel to we use an eSIM card, just make sure your phone supports it and also if is blocked by your carrier, you can call them to unblock it (usually users from the U.S.). There are many companies offering eSim cards but I have used for some years now Airalo and also works wonders in 🇹🇷. You buy your eSim online, and as soon as your flight lands at your new destination, you can have internet! To get a 10% discount on your next eSims, click on the following link and enter the discount code BIT before completing your transaction. airalo.pxf.io/c/4673026/1268485/15608

I live in Istanbul from September 2022, so, the prices in touristic places really seems to be very high, especially from 2023. If you are even non Turkish, but at least speak a little bit Turkish and go to not touristic places, everything becomes much cheaper - taxi and restaurants first of all. I really recommend tourists to choose Kadıköy (Asian side). It is still very close to most of the major places (in Fatih and in Beyoglu), atmosphere is better and what is important - Kadikoy is the place where modern Istanbul citizens go to bars, restaurants, etc, so prices are not for tourists, but much more for upper middle class citizens. Which means nice quality for much more affordable prices than in tourist places like east part of Fatih for example.
@dogukan3564
@dogukan3564 8 месяцев назад
As a Kadikoy local, this comment is very accurate and on-point. You may pay the same price as in touristy areas, but whatever you get, from well-established kebab and fish restaurants to bars and European-style food, you get the best of what you pay for and you eat some real food.

I just came back from Istanbul yesterday after spending a lovely week there with my family. Things may have gone up in price but I still found everything to be cheaper than UK , especially the public transport which cost hardly anything in comparison to what we pay in the UK. We took the taxi a few times and I was aware that we were getting ripped off and even then it was cheaper than what we would pay here.

I've visited Istanbul 1 month ago. I found it affordable, the only ripoffs were museum entry tickets. For example the topkapi palace, basilica cistern, galata tower. They are charging tourists 5x more than a local.
