without seeing it in person it is hard to say. The ring is a bandaid to the issue by pushing the cup in tighter to stop the leak. Sometimes they do end up needing a head.
There’s a kit that converts the press in cups to screw in cups. I’m a bit wary of it though as you’ll destroy the core value of the head because you need to tap the cast iron to do it and the kit costs 2k. It would be nice though for a fleet operation.
