A couple of weeks ago, my sister in law complimented my hair. I have long healthy natural hair. She kept talking about how long and curly it was. I have tighter curls and my hair type is 4a but it appears looser now that it’s longer. My sister in law said that her hair was very dry and it’s difficult to deal with. I told her no it’s not difficult to deal with, you just need to moisturize and take care of your hair. She asked me how I took care of my hair and I told her my hair routine and products. I wash and condition once a week, detangle, and braid it into 4 braids. I take it down after 5 days and wear it down for two days before rebraiding it on wash day. I also let her know that products don’t make your hair grow. It’s having a consistent routine that helps you grow healthy hair. I also showed her natural hair RU-vidrs I follow on RU-vid which helped me learn how to take care of my hair. She told me it’s “ too much work “. My sister in law spends HOURS installing her weave, blow drying and straightening her hair, and braiding her hair with extensions like box braids but taking care of her natural hair is “too much work.” I don’t understand why so many black women think this way.
That's why I had to let my best friend go. Well that's one of the reasons. She used to have big beautiful natural hair. Her puff was bigger than her head!! But then she started working and moving from house to house. She would keep her hair and braids FOR MONTHS!!!! Not washing her hair till it was time for more braids. Her hair started breaking off. She started getting scalp psoriasis. And last she told me which was about 2 years ago she has bald spots and was moving on to wigs. I was so pissed off. I put so much time, money, energy and love into my hair. She had nerve to ask me my routine only to say "Haircare should be simple. Wash, condition and style.". She would also say how jealous she was of my hair and scalp(I have dandruff and stress caused hair loss and hair matting.). But should would never put the money and time into her hair the same way I do mine. So sad. She's probably mostly bald by now.
She obviously doesn't want to be a natural. If she's getting weaves and things like that, she probably would hate shrinkage, having her hair braided, as well as styling her real hair etc.
@@BlazeMontiyou just said she was going from house to house. so you pissed at her when she was down and out and couldnt put her all into her hair like you do? be so fucking fr
@@dremewhite5209Exactly. And I can’t believe that she said used how someone took care of THEIR hair as one of the reasons that she left the friendship. That’s wild. It seems like some people say whatever to fit in the conversation.
‘Chasing someone else’s beauty down the street and up the block’ is the perfect summary for this behaviour. I understand that being honest about this doesn’t feel good, but you can’t run from yourself forever. Great video 😊💕
"natural hair is hard" oh but making sure your 30 inch buss downs are lAid and slaYed is SOOO easy? getting knotless braids/faux locs/etc is sooo easy? silk presses are SOO easy? some of yall need to just say "i dont believe my natural hair is worth the effort and time" and just go. bw have shown that theyre willing to spend hundreds of dollars, hundreds of hours, and deal with hundreds of rude stylists just to get a straighter/ looser textured hairstyle. and thats just for hair, we're not gonna even talk about other cosmetics ON TOP OF THAT like nails, makeup, skincare and bbls. oh but learning your TEXTURED 4c hair? now its "natural hAir iS sOoO mUch Work"
@@tiredoftheworld4834 girl the assimilation aint even assimilating at this point bc they do all that work with the buss downs just to still be labeled ghett o and/ or bald headed so🤷♀

I don’t wear extensions or wigs. And I have long natural hair that Iw ear in a wash and go… it is hard, it is trial and error, and it is worth it. Black women are ALLOWED to think that their thick, long hair is a lot of time and energy.
Guys, can we not come for braids 😭 it's a typical black girl hairstyle. I really love braids, I also wear my natural hair to important events, I don't wear straight wigs at all. I wear afro or curly poofy wigs. And braids too, but 65% of the time I rock my natural hair outdoors. ❤ Braids can be very feminine too.
We getting inches with this one! ❤😊 Edit: "If it's giving you definition but driness you need to stop using it " ??!? I didn't expect to be called out this much but ok, I i get it 😭😭
LEARN HOW TO LOOK FOR SOLUTIONS instead of yapping about how "hard" your hair is, learn to say things like "it takes forever to do my hair. lemme go on yt and find some tips on how to shorten the process". a lot of bw act like their hair is some curse that cant be undone. maam your hair is no different from a plant. if its your first time growing a rose bush, are you just gonna blather about how it is impossible to grow or are you gonna do your research ?
Also other races see bw who constantly say that publicly on these internet streets so much so that they use it against us. “My hair is better than yours” and have the evidence, “because you always complain about how hard, nappy, and ugly yours is”
A actually just washing my hair more often eliminated all of my issues. I shampoo and condition every 2-3 days. Shedding lessened, less breakage, flakes are gone, scalp now produces more oil, hair is more hydrated and tangles less and is stronger. I am not allowing my hair to dry up. Slapping products on only do so much for my hair between washes.
It's easy to do...IF you don't try to change it. Say that again for the people in the back!! This is the most important thing you said right at the start of the video 👏👏👏👏.
This is controversial but my goal is start trimming on more of a schedule every 3-4 months. I have been trimming as needed for years. The problem is that my trims always end up being a cut. My hair was waist length in January but I had to cut off about 4-5 inches because it was scraggly. I miss the early cues of when my hair needs a trim. So now I am going to be more proactive and go on more of a schedule or at least increase the frequency from 2 trims per year to 4. I have also added more moisture to my routine so I won’t have ends that need frequent trims. I have tried trimming my hair at home. I’m better off paying a pro.
I’m literally going thru the exact same thing. My hair grows just fine but my trims don’t allow me to retain as much length. Im going to try for every 3-4 months for trims as well.
@@sakinah3896The key is to keep your ends moisturized, use a sealant like shea butter or oil. The ends of the hair need the most care. It should lessen your trims if you stay consistent.
I do not like wearing my hair natural because it is too short and it just is what it is. Until it’s longer i prefer it stretched. But even still, it’s not difficult to do. I just wash, detangle and deep condition in the shower, blow dry with a blow dry round brush which stretches it for me, and then put it in Bantu knots to make curls that I can wear pinned up, loose, or in a ponytail. Easy style that lasts all week even though I swim and work out. At night I pin it up on top of my head with a claw clip and sleep in a bonnet. Your hair is easy to manage when you keep it clean and wash often. When your hair is not used to water because you rarely ever wash it that’s when it becomes dry, brittle, and tangly and resists your efforts. So everyone who is constantly trying to figure out ways to avoid washing their hair are actually making things more difficult. There is also the hygiene factor too, it’s gross to go a month without washing your hair. You would not go a month without washing your body, your hair should be treated the same way.
Also watch for the chlorine! Hopefully there are good products out there to help protect your hair. It contributes to split ends apparently and drying it out as I vividly remember
I'm currently going through a similar process. My only style for 2 yrs was the denman brush curls because this was the cutest on the length of my hair. I actually just bought a round brush blow dryer today and an iron brush and so pleased now that my hair is stretched. I'm going to wear it stretched for awhile until it gets out of this length where i don't look like an old woman anymore. But my hair has always been so easy to manage and listening to everyone else will have you believing otherwise. 2 years of growth and with my hair stretched it is a little past my shoulders.
Well there are people who go a month without washing their hair tho. Their scalps are pretty healthy/ clean. And I'm talking about the natural hair youtubers. The ones I watch find a way to keep it clean throughout the month tho.
Very inspirational video sis. When I finished my degree as a np I distinctly remember being told to start wearing a wig by family members to look professional. I refuse. I walked on that graduation stage with my natural hair and wore it proudly and I will continue to in my profession. There’s nothing wrong with our hair.
You're my hair twin! Lol. My hair is the same length and I too trim my own hair. Had to learn this the hard way from a stylist that got scissor- happy 5 years ago. Luckily my hair grows fast..... because i dont try to make my hair do what it doesn't want to do and i prioritize moisturization over definition. I googled and watch some tutorials on how to clip and dust my ends even when i was going to get it done professionally once a year. And the stylist even said i was doing a pretty good job. I wear it in its natural state 100 percent of the time too and trim it in twists or braids after its dried after washing. Which i wash twice a week. I have type 4 hair. Not sure which letter follows....lol. I just know its not uniform curls and it shrinks a lot and im perfectly ok with it.
I've always felt my hair was "ugly" because when I was little I wanted to be Rapunzel and light-skinned when, obviously, I am not. My hair is also very damaged and thick which always made it hard to deal with. Thanks for the tips, I'm slowly learning to love my natural hair and take care of it more.
Honestly, my hair is long, super long and I’m 6ft. Your hair will grow, no magic potion is needed., Keep your scalp clean, stay away from tension/tight styles and just let your hair be. I condition and detangle before i shampoo. I suggest you stay away from dyes (they are rarely cute) and relaxers, they are dangerous all the way around! I have literally worn my hair the same every day since probably 2007. I wear my hair out in a wash and go or a very loose high bun. They are the only two styles I wear. There has not been a night that I have not used a satin scarf. I trim MAYBE twice a year and individually cut single strand knots. I NEVER have been to a cosmetologist.
Girl right I trim my hair curly, I have always been natural but my hair is fine and low density so regardless of care it would break. I think learning to love your hair without products, with shrinkage and if it’s short or medium length is key. all hair is valid❤
@towhoitmayconcern3992. Have you considered trying Henna masks? It makes the hair strands strong, and with proper moisture, your strands won’t break as easily. 🌸
Also stylist tell so many women to stop using oils and butters even though thats what are hair needs. When it comes to our hair it needs to stay moistirized regardless and thats 2hy stylist trim sm because when not keeping hair moist you get split ends
My only issue with my hair is fairy knots. It drives me crazy but I started to realise that to some extent, my hair will have fairy knots because its coily. Any tips to prevent them will be appreciated.
the only thing i can suggest to help limit them is stretch your hair at night. and find which hair style prevents them. For me wash and gos give me less. but braid outs give me loads of fairy knots
@@Tatianaclicks So funny because I didn't want to believe that wash n go's give fairy knots, but I've been looking at my ends and mannn 💀 I saw a fairy knot form in front of my eyes while gently detangling. It's so tricky, at least to me.
I know I definitely need to trim my ends, it’s been a while and I’ve dyed it multiple times last year, and I didn’t care about the health very much. Now that I’m trying to grow in my self-confidence and wear my hair as it is, I’m taking initiative to get it healthier. I also thought that I was supposed deep condition with regular conditioner instead of an actual deep conditioner, so I ended up buying the hair mayo deep conditioner and I’m hoping that it’ll help with the dryness over the next few months.
I definitely agree with trimming as needed. I trim 2x a year (every six months) because I take care of my hair. I remember when I first started getting my hair professionally trimmed, my hair stylist tried to convince me to come every three months (I’m sure to make more money). I ignored her & would come twice a year. She always asked me how I kept my hair healthy & that I don’t need to come in as often. Ladies, take care of your hair so you can keep some money in the bank.
One thing that is very important is that even when you get braids and extentions, your hair still needs to be taken care of, to be moisturized, washed (if you can), and given that princess treatment it deserves.
Yh but most people don't do it. That's why it's "easier". We just install it and leave it for weeks or months till we need to remove it & that's when we wash it. Some might refresh it after a while but we don't really take care of it in the braided style
How can I keep my hair moisturized without oils? I can’t use oils because they break me out terribly, but I have medium porosity hair. I don’t get what “dry” vs moisturized hair looks and feels like
Girl I love my hair and taking care of it is easy retaining length is not because i have to always be conscious about keeping length and trimming moisturizing protective styling etc
I swear by the TGIN honey masque! I keep it in my Amazon cart and purchase when its at a low, I recently scored the jar with the pump. ❤ Stop speaking evil on (y)our hair! She hears you and is discouraged. 😢
I feel like I’m experiencing such cognitive dissonance because I know for a fact everything you are saying is correct and yet I’m still so afraid to go completely natyral cause of my shrinkage. I recently ordered some curly clip ins to help add length but my hair will still need to stay stretched for it to blend right. Is there a way to achieve these routines with the clip ins in? Or should I just get on a schedule to do this like weekly, remove them and add them back?
Ok I wanna say they’res nothing wrong with stretching your hair. I think It helps prevent fairy knots. So if you stretch it’s no issue to me. I would still remove them weekly so you can care for your hair.
No one has genetically shorter hair. You may have hair that grows slower sure but length of hair is based on hair retention not on growth speed. With time anyone can have long hair.
@@theinvisiblewoman5709 Peoples hair are prone to grow at different rates and be retained at different rates and a lot if not a majority of it has to do with the structure of the hair based on genetics. Which is why South Indian Hair looks a lot different than Caucasian Hair or Afro textured hair. Sure certain practices can improve growth and retention but trying to sell to every person that their hair will grow past a certain length is unrealistic and to be frank can be harmful. It is right up there with texturism in my opinion. If we are so happy with our hair then accepting all lengths is a part of that.
My hair is damaged. I started doing protein treatment on my hair I did it once but it didn't fully recover my hair. But I am staying away from heat tools and blow dry outs. And i need to invest in a good detangler brush It's just so hard to keep your hair natural while it's damaged
Maybe going out more or going to a big church will help. Go to a bar (order virgin drinks if applicable) Usually sit down places helps. Last night I went to church and they had a dinner. A lady next to me sparked up a conversation about hair and her daughters. We hit it off so fast. Laughing and comparing hair regimens.
There is life and death In the tongue and you will eat what you say over your hair. Speak life into your hair your hair is Gods crown glory, keep up the great work God bless it’s a gift from Jesus 🙏🏻😊
Short pieces of hair breaking off when combine or randomly, single strand knots, lot of tangles near your ends, seethrough ends (hair goes from thick and luscious too thin and stringy)
👍🏾Note: Under heavenly kingdom rule coming at any time now righteous mankind will receive perfect human life forever and their hair texture will change. (Psalms 37:11,29; Matt 24:3,14,42,44; Rev 21:3-6)
I do agree about this. But I have to say that a black girl or black woman who has short hair or wears pretty weaves can be beautiful and some can be unattractive even if they are wearing their natural hair. I will elaborate further. I believe that a black woman with combed hair, neat eyebrows, clear skin, no acne or eye circles, clean ears and clean neck, her own straight white teeth, no underarm dark spots, or dark inner thighs, no black bumps on her legs, clean feet and neat toenail, no makeup or maybe a little makeup, is far more prettier than just a girl with only natural hair who doesn’t take care of herself those other parts. I am so tired of seeing black girls with bad skin talking only about hair. Especially when you eat a ton of food and can’t reach the back of your neck and it’s black as black. Or you’re wearing all this makeup when you are prettier without it or you’re wearing it when we all can clearly see you have bad skin under it. A woman who takes care of herself all the way will always be more better looking than a girl that only focus on their hair but don’t address their hygiene. Because I can see a girl with long full hair and then barf if she has bad looking skin and poor hygiene. In short, long hair is not pretty privilege alone.
I feel like fine hair has to be put away in order to grow. No matter how gentle you are it always tangles on itself also a lot of styles folding look as cute because our hair isn’t coarse.
what are y’all thoughts on natural sew ins that matches your hair texture in 2024. because i’ll take care of my hair, (deep condition it, keep it oiled/moisturized etc.) but … i still love my curly flip over method, and my curly extensions. 😩🥹😅. And follow up question is: what about deep conditioning once a month? Does it have to be every week? #curiouscatoverhere lol
Thanks for commenting! Sorry I didn’t mean to confuse you I don’t deep condition every week. I just did it because I needed it! I think textured sew ins are fine!!
