I'm surprised you didn't get such a gun before! In Russia, this is the most common and cheapest type of shotguns for hunting and sports. We have 2 factories that produce AK-type shotguns. The first factory that produces real AK, they make shotguns called Saiga. The second factory that produces the РПК (Kalashnikov light machine gun) and they produce shotguns called Вепрь (Vepr) in english it is Boar. Both of these shotguns look about the same. But the Vepr is more reliable. I do not know if they are imported to the USA. If yes, then look for a Vepr. It has a bolt delay and there are no problems with loading a full magazine when the bolt is closed. I go goose hunting with this shotgun. It works great, the rate of fire is high, the reliability of AK and very fast reloading compared to other semi-automatic shotguns!
I've a couple of Saiga -12's , now I wished that I had a Vepr instead , for just that the loading...... it's reliability has been great providing you adjust the gas plug. I've got mine through Carolina Shooters Supply.
Our government has banned all firearms imported from Russia so prices on Saiga 12 and VEPR 12 have gone insane. You can buy 5+ cheapish American shotguns for the same price :(
@@daltonduffett8642 It's sad. These shotguns are really really cool. It's a pity that you can't buy them. Politicians are assholes. I've always known that.
@@daltonduffett8642 Well, from what I understand, the American Kalishnakov is the Saiga brand that was brought over here, to be made "HERE"> (USA) to get away from that ban, if I am correct. I've seen some of the reviews on them, they say they're pretty good!
@@Dire_wolfe not saying it’s a bad thing. Reminds me a lot of myself. Cant help but smile when a grown man get such joy out of it. I think we all dream of a job doing what we love and everyday giggling with joy and getting paid.
Scott: “I’m surprised this table held up so well through the whole entire video” Also Scott: *literally destroys the whole entire table with an AK Shotgun* lol
Wow, I never realised yellow jackets were so small, until now. I could only differentiate the wasps by colour, they are so much punier than the wasps and hornets we have in China.
Funfact, the Saiga-12 Shotgun was the last firearm designed directly by Kalashnikov himself. They are very robust and reliable firearms, and typically much more reliable than the AR style 12 gauge shotguns on the market. Reloading magazines can be a bit tricky on the Saiga types with a AK style "rock and lock" magazine, due to the shells pushing up against the bolt carrier group. It actually is possible with some practice to force the magazine upwards at a angle and it will lock in just fine, this causes the shells to push down into the magazine. Alternatively many Saiga-12 models and their Chinese clones have a bolt hold open button on the top of the trigger guard. On empty you simply depress this button with your trigger finger, and charge the bolt back underneath the gun, or over top of the gun with your off hand, this locks the bolt rearward. Then a magazine is easily inserted. Then simply pull the bolt back another half a inch and release for it to fly forward chambering the first round. With practice you can easily and quickly reload the shotgun every time. It takes maybe 1 second more than a typical AK reload.
Low-key, Sportsmans Guide is letting Scott do the durability R&D, and now look; 1 table lasted the whole video, like never before! Win-Win relationship!
Back in the '80's, my Dad had my big brother and I shooting water-filled antifreeze jugs with our muzzleloaders and deer rifles. He wanted to demonstrate the shock power and devastation of such weapons. The lessons were learned. Dad is an Army vet. My big brother is a Marine Corp vet. I am an Army Desert Storm vet. I am happy to say that none of us ever had to use deadly force on another human being. Although things got hairy at times!
Im gonna have to say scott has made it into the number one spot for most enjoyable youtubers to watch. Always been a top 3 but his content is simply enjoyable to watch.
Scott, there’s a notch for the charging handle within the safety so you can hold it back with the safety. After you reload, drop the safety and it will chamber the first shel. Similar to a Yuko AK. I want to get a Kalashnikov 12 gauge after this video lol. My AK needs a big brother…
The mag problem comes from the shear mass of the 12 gauge shell sticking up instead of the usual 7.62’s. My saiga has a bolt hold open button that makes for a lot easier loading it helps a ton! I loved this video btw really showed the force of this gun and how much fun they can be!
The Molot Vepr-12 is the best of the Russian shotguns. It has last round bolt hold open, it is built on the RPK light machine gun receiver and has an AR style magazine well (no rocking the mag).
Agreed. I missed out when they were like, $650, but I did score one before Russian imports were banned. Its existence makes me wonder why at least some of the features weren't ported over to a rifle caliber AK, like a .223 or .308.
Love that nothing goes to waste, and you’re doing good for the environment on the self biodegradable range! Keeping the raccoons, squirrels, possums, groundhogs fat, and the bees pollinating with the all yummy goodness you blast out there. Amongst what else you have roaming the Kentucky range, Hurry up and move to TEJAS! 😎
Getting the extended charging handle really helps Gould it back to load mags. The giant gk-01 brake helps with the recoil a lot. I love mine but sometimes without polishing it can be temperamental
It might be like the sks after taking off the attached mag so you can use ak mags, got to stick your finger in the bottom and slid the bolt retainer up to hold open the bolt then put the mag in pull bolt back one cm let go to chamber the first shell.
Seriously, I can’t remember what video it was right now possibly on Matt’s, but I mean didn’t or hadn’t your arch nemesis ak-guy already uprooted! Oh, and yes, DONUT! Throwing love at you as well grand thumb. Come on; Gun Channels community, let’s get Scott to the great state. Shout out to EDWIN as well in Cali… Yal keep the work up fellas!
I picked up my KS-12T a few months ago in Black/Tan. So far it has been great. The Magazines have to be inserted with the bolt open (unless you really force them) just like on a Saiga 12. However, unlike my Saiga 12 - the KS12T needed no work to make it reliable with basically anything I could feed it. I also like that the KS12s are Made in the USA. Something cool about an actual Kalashnikov rifle being made in the US.
Hold the rifle level and straight when feeding in a magazine . Works every time .. That's actually the number one indicator of an AK rookie when you point the rifle up and try to feed in magazine . . lol
God: I have provided my children with a plant that they will selectively cultivate into a large, delicious, nutritious fruit that can feed man and animal alike. Scott: IT’S WAATTERRMMEELLONN TIIIMMMEE!!!
Inserting the mag just takes practice. You've got to imagine that you're pressing the top shell further into the mag while in the mag well before rocking it in.
That factory mag has got to be the most finicky mag I have ever used in my life. Sometimes I can get it to go just fine on a closed bolt. Other times it's near impossible. There's a company that makes saiga style mags that allow you to load smoothly on a closed bolt.
I believe its time that you take out your biggest canons and compare their performance in the one and only scientific way known to mankind: The Nacho-Cheese-Test
3:08 is just hilarious to me X,D the silence after several *BANG BANG BANG BANG* and transitions into the little motor hum with him casually standing aiming X,D
Good day. I wonder if it would be possible to have a guess the calibre game with some other youtubers where you blind fold them, they shoot a gun and then they have to guess which calibre the weapon was. Would be cool if you could team up with Kentucky Ballistics and have them unknowingly shoot the .700NE... Maybe even a .950JDJ if it is possible to obtain or borrow one. Ps. Would need a really big berm or backstop, maybe demo ranch could work but drive tanks would maybe be better...
That would be extremely difficult to do, unless each contestant were given a set number of calibers to choose from prior to the game, and they were aware of them all. From recoil and sound alone, many firearms can seem extremely similar. However, from feeling the firearm, I think the majority of them that are experienced would be able to guess correctly most of the time. The other thing is the safety aspect of it. Not a great idea to blindfold somebody, then have them shoot. Even if it's a controlled environment. Things can, and do go wrong, even when seemingly safe. The best recent example of such being the RN-50 blowing up on Scott. Also, also, the ammunition for the .950 JDJ is pretty much unobtainium, fetching well over $100 per cartridge IF it can be found. But, it isn't really found, even before the pandemic/ammo shortage. Especially not after.
@@rodgersmith1573 I do agree to some extent but it is still possible, firstly Mat, Donut and Brandon have an idea of what firearms Scott has. Secondly if place the fire arm in a rest with a big enough berm it should be fine, I would recommend a indoor range but I don't think any range would let you shoot a lot of bigbore calibers in their range. Is still think it can be done, as mentioned in the previous comment he could use the drive tanks range and maybe Mats range or even the dessert at Edwin Sarkissian. Secondly if they sit at a table it would be easy to get them to shoot in a safe direction. Yes accidents do happen although they are less common that what you are led to expect they are anomalies and when they happen are reported widely. So I do not expect a firearm blowing up, if you expect a firearm to blow up you should not be shooting it or owning it... Yes that fat mac or .950jdj is extremelt rare and Ian dit a video about it and I suppose that is where you got the data of ammo prices, but it does exist none the less and it would be expensive and extremely difficult to get one, but it is still possible and it does not necessarily have to be in the video.
Oh god. All those hornets and wasps, that looked like a bad time just waiting to happen. The bees on the other hand, I welcome those guys. That being said, I've always wanted a shotgun like this. I know there is a few on the market, but sadly life prevents me from getting one RN. What I've always wanted to do, is take one to a gun club and shoot trap. Watch all the old guys with their 20k+ trap guns mouths drop as you go out there with that thing(don't do it at a random club, they will boot you). I'm a member of a local club and those guys would get a kick out of seeing me shoot one of those. Makes me wonder if it would jam on 7 shot though. Any chance you could test that and get back to me?
I think Saiga 12's (not sure about KS-12's) cycle fine with heavier loads but don't like the really light. Seem to remember seeing someone try running low brass bird shot and it would short stroke.
1:15. One of my favorite and least favorite parts about the saiga. Most favorite because I probably wouldn't have to worry about someone taking my(if I had one, which I dont know if I do or don't) saiga and using it against me.
Two things. This is the first gun I bought purely because a protagonist in a book I was reading had one (he had a tricked out saiga 12 but because we can’t have the one thing Russia did right, that being their weapons, it was close enough for a college student who had saved up some cash.) Second. Every time I watch your videos I just have a stupid smirk across my face cause god that looks like so much fun.
That shotgun is made by Kalashnikov USA which is the same exact name brand of the Russian Kalashnikov that makes Kalashnikov's for the Russian military. Every firearm and part is up to spec from the real Kalashnikov company but they are also based here too.
These AK 12s like this or the VEPR 12 still is by far one of the most entertaining guns to shoot. One thing the VEPR has is the straight push in mag and it loads fine with a full mag plus it has a really nice bolt lock back setup. A 25rd drum mag filled with 00 buck is just silly and it would always have everyone giggling like a kid. My 70 year old neighbor couldn't stop giggling after my cousin had him dump 25rds on a pile of water jugs. He joked - "I wish we had this in the service!" Now the JTS AK12 is $280 on PSA and it's actually great too! Insane it's under $300 but it didn't jam all day and ran right along with the VEPR. Sure it's nowhere near Molot quality but it ran light loads up to slugs just fine right out of the box! We put about 20 rounds of ancient random #4 through it to break it in and went from there. We had contests to see who could dump 10 rounds of 3" slugs as quickly as possible while staying on the 14" x 22" target at 15 yards. The massive "V" muzzle brake on the VEPR gave it an advantage. It's so cool we have so many options now. You can spend under $300 on an AK12 or go big and spend well over $1k but either way you're in for a good time on the range!
Man, note to self, if I ever want to lure half the yellow jackets in Kentucky anywhere, I'll break out the Pumpkin Spice flavoring and fall dessert recipes 😂
Came along a trash container this summer and can assure you that your halloween menu isn't even the worst that bees feast of. Hopefully that bees don't belong to a beekeeper because the honey may taste like rotten cat food fluids afterwards 😆
