I passed my 70d onto my 11 year old that's taken up the hobby fairly seriously. Aside from Minecraft videos, you're her favorite channel to watch. She takes notes, and proudly corrects me on the camera settings while in the field in the Oregon backcountry. You're a bit of a celebrity in the house, and, thanks to you, she's been collecting some ribbons for her work. It's fun to watch her grow with this. Appreciate your work, and appreciate you.

Simon, please don’t change anything. The intro is your signature and the way you say your name is only give away that you are a Frenchman. Love it. Love your videos and I am sure you are pressed for time but there’s a humungous opportunity for you East of Suez. Please explore that too. Your tips are great like three clicks to right for a crow, four to left for bright snowy owl and five clicks to the right for a bird in flight. Simply fantastic. Would love to join you in your courses but for us in third world countries it’s almost a years salary and almost impossible. But to take nothing away your teaching is your legacy and will last forever. Looking forward for more breathtaking lessons and content. Wishing you many wonderful and productive years ahead. May your tribe increase. ❤

Probably one of my favorite videos because it's so candid. For 2024, I would love to see you reach outside your comfort zone. IE - pair up with a portrait photographer for a couple weeks and talk about things where you aren't a specialist (like posing subjects, portrait and studio lighting, how to shoot events, etc). Or maybe pairing up with a local sports photographer and covering professional sports for a few weeks.

Simon, there's a good reason why you've had so much success with your channel: you do an excellent job of presenting photography tips/information to those still learning their craft. That isn't easy to do when one has many years of experience behind them; one must remember what questions passed between their ears when they were still learning the basics. Your videos manage to educate without overwhelming those wishing to better understand how to make "photographs," not just shoot "snapshots." Keep it up!

Hi Simon I watched almost all your videos this year. I’m Matei, a 13 year old passionate wildlife photographer from Romania. Last year I discovered this passion when I first found my dad’s old 350D with its kit lenses. After a bit of time I upgraded to the 250D and bought a used 70-300. This year I upgraded to the R7 and the 100-500, with the help of my parents and my grandparents I finally could bought them. I’m really proud of what I learned this year and the results I got. Happy new year!

Lots of channels are just talking about the latest gear and items that have released and how great it is. It is pretty exhausting, and from what I've seen your channel leaves a lot of that out, and instead focuses on actually taking photos and how to do it well, and what matters in real life. Content like your bird intro video where you give advice to go up beach and come back and lay in wait for the birds to come, that is gold. That kind of content is rare and isn't available on most RU-vid channels, it is clear real-world expertise that is being passed on and is what in my opinion makes your channel so great. I gifted an A7IV to a new photographer over Christmas and gave them a playlist of three of your videos to get started as they are brand new, and was really happy to be able to pass along your content, thanks!

I know 69 is not that old but my job I got injured so it is getting really hard for me to explore the environment as much as I used to. I used to go out for hours hiking around and taking photos in the Mojave Desert and loved it. Anyway, I do not need that much information on how to photograph but I still enjoy the way you do it. Keep up the good work.

Quite the opposite! I wouldn't change a thing about it, honestly. I also love the _"I know you can do it!"_ at the end of your videos - it sounds genuine and actually provides a bit of motivation. Needles to say, everything in between the intro and outro is absolute top-notch quality and leagues ahead of any other photography channel I've watched. Your videos are to the point, yet don't leave anything important out. They are easy to parse, easy to remember, easy to apply. Thank you!

You've been instrumental in my enjoyment of photography over a really bleak year. In May when I got out of Hospital, I was pretty terrible, but I found your videos and picked up my camera again. I've been shooting for around 15 years but hadnt picked up my camera in months. Anyway. Thank you and all the best. Here's to another year. 😁

Your explanation of sometimes complex subjects is so inspiring and informative, whilst at the same time being entertaining .... you're streets ahead of most other "informative and entertainment" photography channels and am so glad it's been a great year for you ... looking forward to more in 2024!!

I have followed you since last year, and I always thought it was just a matter of time for your channel to become well known on RU-vid. The quality of your content, the passion you transmit, the great capacity you have to break down technical concepts, and of course your sympathy can only yield good results. I bought a tele lens because of you and I'm very impressed about some pictures I'm now able to shoot! Nothing would have been possible without your channel. You're such a nice guy explaining that sometimes I think "oh man, I'd love to have this folk as a friend!" 😅 And can only wish you and your family all the best for the new year! Best regards from Frankfurt. Pedro

Simon, your dedication to educating, inspiring, and motivating us in photography has been a remarkable service. As we look towards 2024, I have no doubt you’ll make choices that are best for both you and this channel. While you often say this channel is for the audience, I must admit, it’s your unique presence that I’m here for. Your passion for showcasing the splendor of photography and nature shines through, and that authenticity has profoundly influenced me. Your impact is evident; people are genuinely admiring my photos now, thanks to your guidance. A heartfelt thank you, Simon. P.S.: Product reviews? Maybe not essential, but everything else is spot on! 😊

A Lightroom course would be great please Simon. I've just stubled across your channel and I'm now backtracking through your videos. The 'in the studio' tutorial style you have, to make us better photographers, is great, so please don't change it, and no equipment reviews please. I watch a lot of Thomas Heaton and your different style of video is a pleasant change. Keep on doing what you're doing. If it ain't broke.... All the best, Jim in Edinburgh

I was so afraid from the title that you were saying goodbye! As someone who is very passionate about documenting wildlife I really love your channel, it has taught me a lot and inspires me even if I’m not specifically doing photography sometimes. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise. PS Nova Scotia is a beautiful place, one of the best places I’ve ever visited. My partner is from there and when I played your videos he immediately asked if you might be from Nova Scotia too haha. One of the times I visited we went to Burntcoat Head, what a gorgeous place for photography/filming.

Simon, this channel deserves every bit of success! you provide amazing information for photographers, and if I were you, I'd stick to this format. RU-vid is bloated with channels that speak about gear, but few that actually "teach" something of high quality. In my humble opinion, the master teacher on RU-vid for wildlife photography has been - and still is - Steve Perry, and I would say that you and your channel can replicate this success easily. Your content is of very high quality, you've been gifted with a deep and calm voice - which is an important factor for me - to keep coming back for your videos, and above all, you're not just a good teacher, but also an amazing photographer. And in my opinion that's the resemblance I see between you and Steve. Both great teachers and wildlife photographers with an amazing body of work to back it. Some big photography channels only "talk" about photography or gear, but don't show images that inspire. You are different. Keep showing us great images, as they provide inspiration and instant credibility for yourself. I wish you a successful 2024, and looking forward to more amazing images, and maybe one day I'll join one of your workshops :)

Hi Simon. Congratulations on your RU-vid success, it's thoroughly deserved. So what should you do for 2024? We'll I don't know, but what I do know is what you shouldn't do. We like your channel because you speak clearly and without waffle. You are never cocky or big headed, but always encouraging. Your knowledge shines through without needing to resort to tricks or flashy graphics, and in a world of fake that's very, very appealing. So.... Don't change anything, just continue to make quality content aimed at photographers of all level and I'm sure your channel will continue to grow and grow. We'll keep watching that's for sure, and will recommend your channel whenever we can. Thank you for your excellent content.

Actually Simon the privilege is ours as we get to enjoy your weekly videos. You fully deserve the success of your channel! As is frequently pointed out in the comments section of your videos you are an amazing photography communicator (low signal to noise ratio). So whether learning something new, reviewing, testing my own knowledge or simply looking to watch a video about the wonderful hobby of photography, your videos never disappoint. As for future content suggestions: Of course more behind the scenes would be awesome but it's understood those videos are not easy or rewarded by the algorithm :( More about making wildlife video would be good. Your tours are a great idea and I hope they really take off for you and to one day join (in Canada!) … maybe you should take along a videographer with you to help with content and editing demands for your channel. All the best to you in 2024!

Simon, I appreciate your hard work producing the videos. Don't stray from what makes you "you". I enjoy the "how to" kinds of instructional videos. No nonsense, to the point videos (I went to Pangolin a few months before you and couldn't wait to see your videos on Botswana! The entire adventure was beyond incredible on our visit). Thanks again.

In my opinion, you have two qualities that set you apart from most who make educational photography videos: 1) There is nothing superfluous in your videos. Not a single unnecessary sentence! The instructions have been condensed to be as concise as humanly possible. 2) A down-to-earth and honest style without any unnecessary hype. You're like the guy next door, not a RU-vid star or wannabe. Many Americans, like Jared Polin, are annoyingly loud or fast. Of course, the foundation of all this is that you are a professional and you have wonderful photos, but it's the previously mentioned factors that in my eyes set you apart from most of RU-vid's photography stars.

Happy New Year, Simon! Thank you for being you, producing your channel and providing so much education to photographers at so many stages of learning photography. I love that your videos have a good introduction, get to the point, provide examples and most of all, I enjoy the gorgeous photos you capture & produce! Your Wood Duck & Mallard are still the most incredible, most beautiful avian photos I have seen! As an amateur photographer since 1978, and as a birder for 15 years, I have found a have a happy "marriage" of my favorite hobbies. I love learning about the birds and I love learning more about using my camera (which offers more features than I will ever use.) Thank you for addressing the mental health benefits as well as disabilities. And yes, pulling up in my truck is often all I can do; I learned that a truck makes a great "blind" for shooting birds, as long as I do not open the door (which means "game over" as far as the bird is concerned as it flies off.) As for what you will do this year, it will be interesting to tag along on your channel's evolution. Finally, congrats on such success! If I recall correctly, you had about 90K when your channel was presented to me and soon thereafter, you received your RU-vid award for 100K. And now 346K! Again, thank you!

Thanks for everything, Simon...I've learned a lot from your videos. In particular, One thing I really like about your videos is that you fully embrace the subjectivity of the process and resulting photos. Far too many youtube photography personalities seem determined to convince watchers of what is "right" and what is "wrong" without realizing that they are trying to impose their personal tastes on others. I really appreciate your emphasis on giving us the tools and knowledge to realize our own vision rather than your own.

Your channel works because its simple, unique and easy to follow and about photography and you share your knowledge. And you seem a decent guy. So it works. The behind the scenes are good, but may be a mixture with little clips when you were out to take specific photos and then integrate them within your tutorials. It's always nice to see where you were out on location. Wishing you all the best for 2024 Simon.
