That certainly explains why the need has dropped and why so many people need the adapter lines. It's a great business decision on their part as well. It's probably one of the cheapest and most effective advertising campaigns they've ever undertaken.

Those who have lost their homes and are camping in their yards are the ones who need propane heatrers because they have nothing to hook power up to. We helped a family with propane for cooking and heating their tents.
@MarcGyverIt
@MarcGyverIt 5 дней назад
Propane is expensive and doesn't last very long, as well. That's why I'm constructing a whole bunch of passive solar heater collector boxes that people can use to heat a shed, camper, tent, whatever. It will only OFFSET the use of propane, but it should help when it gets cold during daylight hours. And then people can also store heat in insulated water containers, have warm water, etc. I'm in the process right now planning for the near future to deliver them. I also need to find people who could use them.
@BonnieBlue2A
@BonnieBlue2A 5 дней назад
@@MarcGyverItI am sure you mean well but those are not practical forms of heat. Those systems have to be huge to keep a greenhouse just above freezing.
@leslie6189

Your passive heater will work well with an incredibox from Incredible Tiny Homes. They can do a tiny home on a trailer or on skids. Road would gave to be clear for delivery... Base cost is 20k.their 8x20incredibox could get a family of 4 out of a tent for winter... Family could build on a screen porch and winterize for extra space.... Would be a quick restart... Their company might be willing to work with folks who could fundraise for a family to get out of the cold
@MarcGyverIt
@MarcGyverIt 4 дня назад
@@BonnieBlue2A Even a window unit is good enough to keep an insulated room warm during the day. It's not for a greenhouse. I also have yet to see an efficient design made, and I've see hundreds.

A tipi from the down trees, wrapped in real reflectix then a heavy duty tarp and a deep fire pit for warmth will make a huge difference. Better than a tent, seems like there is so much wood so donated chainsaws will help keep people warmer and safer.

If you use hoses with those heaters you definitely should get the filter too. It's the oils from the rubber hose that clogs up the system in the heater, not from the tanks or propane. I went through 2 or 3 heaters until I found out that was what was happening. I still have 2 that stopped working incase I can fix them. Never looked into how. I used a filter with my current one for years and it's working fine still. Name brand or aftermarket hoses do it.

@alaneverett9767
@alaneverett9767 5 дней назад
Propane, being a petroleum distillate, does sometimes have an oily substance in it that can be filtered out. If your heater buddy stops you can take off one of the side panels you will see some tubing (I believe it is steel). Use your common sense and look and you will see kind of a U-shaped place where that tubing goes down and up forming a U shape.. This oily substance collects in that u-shaped place in the tubing and will eventually stop the heater from working. When mine stop working I usually take off that little u-shaped place (there are tubing nuts on each side) and rinse it out with some sort of solvent (like 91% or 70% alcohol) and usually the heater buddy will fire right back up. I have a large regular kitchen stove that I've run off propane for years and have never had any problem with the little jet like orifices in the big stove clogging up. My gas piping in the house has a little false 6 inch, down run that I was told was mainly to catch rust flakes as the pipes get older but it would also catch droplets of the oily substance that I've found in these Heater Buddies. There are instructional videos on RU-vid that show better how to clean the section of pipe in a heater buddy. A standard 20 lb propane tank willI keep one of those heater buddies going about a week. 30 lb tanks when full are about the limit for older people to move around unless you have a hand cart. You aren't supposed to have the tanks inside though everybody I know that uses the heater buddy does that. Under certain circumstances your propane tank can vent out a blast of propane. I don't know anyone that has ever had that happen as its happens when you overfill the tank and the liquid in the tank expans. You need to keep 3 ft or more space around the heater buddy because if a towel or something like that falls on top of the heater buddy it will catch fire.... For those of you that don't know, the heater buddy is an incredible Appliance. It has a little sensor in it that will cut off the gas flow (turning off the flame) if the oxygen level in your heated space drops below a certain point. A lot of other propane tank heaters do not have this safety feature on them. I have only ever had this low oxygen shut off happen once or twice when I was using a Heater Buddy to heat the inside of my van. If you open the window just for a few seconds the oxygen pushes its way into the vehicle and the heater buddy will start back up again. They are a wonderful safe product but have to be used responsibly like any open flame.

WARM... heats easily with tiny space heater and stays warm. A 8x20 model easily houses a couple. Or a family of 4 could squish... And get local help to add on an enclosed insulated screen porch with Woodburner for extra square footage.... Whole family could be sheltered quick.... It's getting cold in the mountains

I struggled with posting my aid run video, but it has led to an outpouring of support including a corporate donor I am meeting with tomorrow. I was in the Ft Lauderdale airport and when someone heard I am from AVL they showed me my video not knowing it was me. These videos do need to be respectful and they also need to help spread the word that our community needs ongoing support and will for quite some time. Thank you for what you are doing!

If there's anything good to come out of all of this devastation, it's how people are working to help others in their time of need. There are good people out there! Sometimes, we need a little reminder of this, especially during this time when there seems to be so much division, thanks to politics! Thank you, Arthur, for being you! ❤

Thank you for your efforts and all those donating to help you to help others. My heart has hurt every day after Hurricane Helene. I feel those wonderful people’s pain and trust me when I say, even 3 weeks out, they are still in shock. I lived through Katrina. We had to hack through the attic of a three story to get onto the roof. We were there 3 and a half days before rescued. No water, food or blankets to protect from mosquitoes, we lost every thing but we’re thankful to have our lives. Unfortunately we were brought to the super dome which was a worse nightmare. I don’t want to say why. Luckily I have family with an airboat business in Louisiana, they were working on search & rescue already but we had no idea until my cousin recognized me in a crowd and got us out of there after having been there a week. Our death toll was just below 1400, some never recovered but there’s a big difference with Helene because those poor souls live in the hills and mountains and endured land slides and in some spots got over 30” of rain, they are/were trapped due to complete road and bridge destruction. In New Orleans, we are below sea level surrounded by levees protecting us from Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River. Kind of like a soup bowl. Had levees at Lake Pontchartrain not breached we would have been fine. I hope everyone keeps those victims lifted in prayer, they need it for a long time to come. Some didn’t just get flooded houses, many houses were washed away or crushed but not just their homes but their entire towns, their businesses, their jobs and loved ones and family pets. God bless you and keep you safe.

I watch these videos just to educate and inform myself. I have a son in N.C. Close to the destruction, but their location was spared, and I was just here two weeks before the hurricane struck, it’s so beautiful there, I-40, traveled that highway, traveled the Blue Ridge ParkWay on our trip home, Spent a week there, had such a great time, and then this all happened, I’m saddened about it all.

I just wish more people had a clue what the landscape is like there, You’re driving on a main road that twist and turns and rolls , I like to liken it to a roller coaster ride, and the mountain is straight up on your right, and your left are homes, driveways that disappear somewhere into the woods, small dirt roads intersecting, and then there was the river along the roadway for a couple of miles, I KNOW I drove through areas that don’t exist anymore, I-40, Blue Ridge Highway. Between Boone and going northwest back to Michigan, I know there’s areas where the Earth just gave away and washed down those hills at tremendous speed and destruction. So sad. It’s gonna take decades to get those places back to anything usable, and some of the farm land is now covered in a number of feet of sand that is under to grow anything.

Thanks to all the local people on the ground sharing on social media, people across the country are able to step up and help. The response of everyday people doing what they can, whether it be a little or a lot, it all adds up and warms my heart that we do still care about each other. In my humble opinion, the silver lining in all of this devastation and loss is that it has created more unity in a divided country at a very vulnerable time. Another silver lining is that you people are reminding the rest of the country how to handle the worst of times as a community of communities. We can move mountains (literally) when we work together and we can accomplish whatever we set our minds to. We're going to get knocked down, likely a lot and it's going to hurt, but with God's help, we can get back up and not remain helpless victims. This is the way it is across the majority of this country, but I think there are several areas that have forgotten that it was the people that built this country, not the big daddy government. Thank you for sharing this with love and respect for everyone there. God bless you all!

What a heart warming video! I have been worried the folks out there were getting cold. Thanks so much for this! Being a carpenter, you may appreciate this idea: Cordwood Building may be helpful for building some tiny homes up in the mountains where all the trees went down. It is very pretty when done!! You cut the same length and put the cut end out (It looks like a stone house). This can be any thickness you want the walls to be, or use shorter 12 inch cuts and a double wall with a gap between to add insulation which is super energy efficient. I think all they use is sandy mud, ashes, lime & water to create a mortar (Or the regular way with cement, sand, lime and water). You put up your support beams like a barn, but allow for a rounded or octagon look due to the thickness of the walls. Windows and doors are framed normal.

You have skills, knowledge, and the capability to think out of the box which should be pretty useful right now. Some folks are becoming able to move into sheds, campers, tiny houses, and trailers. Some type of skirting would keep these warmer with less effort, gas, and propane. Some folks are in tents and there are ways to live warmer in tents than sleeping directly on the ground. Some of these things could do with temporary, exterior walls to block or deflect the wind and maybe even a hint at a dead air space; pallets on side with minimal more construction than a compost bin are what some of our homeless camps use.

@terryhenderson424
@terryhenderson424 6 дней назад
@@christinemose7308 Appropriate yes ... but that is more expensive than say a Buddy Heater. Things are arriving in ones and twos. Even so, a trailer of any type can get mighty cold in the winter in cold country. A tent is better than none, a trailer better than a tent, and so on. Still while not magazine perfect or pretty, there are ways to make them more habitable with less electricity, propane, or gas usage.
