Toyota should be congratulated on being bold and bringing this car to market. Any suv/ coupe/ crossover is compromised, but as a style based option, the CHR stands out. IMO, it looks great.
@matthewhartman7176
@matthewhartman7176 Год назад
It's definitely difficult to squarely classify this car in a clear division, isn't it? As a C-HR owner, when people say it's a "SUV" I kind of cringe. It feels more like a sturdy coupe if it feels like anything and handles like one too.

All it needs are pop out Warp Nacelles, white paint and the obligatory double red Starfleet stripes to qualify as a Starfleet Shuttlecraft. The Plug-in is obviously the one to go for (if you have 7.2 kW home charging) - I like the 41 miles of exclusively EV range capability 😊👍🏾

Great review. The visual appeal is certainly up to date. The interior does lack a few convenience items. The lack of cup holders in the rear seat is disappointing for the occasional passenger and the usb charge points are placed to low to be easily accessed. The boot size is much bigger than my Suzuki so it looks very usable. The auto tailgate is a great idea as some people can struggle with it especially when opening. Can't wait to see Tish's full review of CH-R and find out the all important price.

The PHEV powertrain in the Toyota C-HR is the exact same one used in the new Toyota Prius Prime that we are sadly denied access to. I am quite upset that we’re not getting the new Prius Prime in the UK, but it’s offered in Ireland. I’m glad that it’s also offered in Romania though. Speaking of Romania, given the popularity of the 1st gen C-HR there, I’ll be very surprised if this model doesn’t come to Romania. I think the 2nd gen C-HR will be suitable for the Romanian market, but no official launch date is given at the moment, and features / specifications applicable to the Romanian model are likely to be confirmed closer to its Romanian launch date.

Ireland also gets the Corolla Cross. South African and Irish RU-vid commenters have been telling me how good it is. I could afford a RAV4 but every time I look at one I think "do I really want a tank like that".

Those door handles are really really questionable if you live somewhere with snow storms. I've had to chisel my way into opening the door more than once, and the handles were the only grip I had to pull on the door. I get that they designed a quirky car, but some things are not to be messed with, like proper door handles and physical buttons. I like the car otherwise, hopefully the handles won't be a deal breaker because they look stupid to use even without ice all over them.
@nicholasriley3569

It might grow on me once seen in the metal but it seems a bit over designed just for the sake of it. The new Prius (which we don't get in the UK) is far more cohesive imo.

The good news is that this has literally the same drivetrain as the new Prius Prime / PHEV that’s not being released in the UK. I think the PHEV version of this C-HR will give you over 50 miles of EV range. That means all (normal) commutes would potentially be in EV mode only - especially if you have home charging.
@joelburne19
@joelburne19 Год назад
Thanks for this- finally some new information and I love the blue. Hopefully the door handles are just a pre-production thing because the current C-HR is so intuitive with just touching the handle.

What intrigued me is that with a tear that big with a pair of jeans, it would normally be thrown away, much less used as a fashionable item. I can live with the smaller tears that are still trendy these days, but really this one is beyond me. The good thing is that I can have a tear this big with my jeans and nobody would bat an eyelid. BTW, the CH-R looks great. And Tish did a great review.

The design evolution is attractive. I, like you, found the original striking. My wife and I looked into buying one, many years ago but I couldn't get past the gutless engine options especially at this price point (and we pay less in the US). If the powertrain came close to matching the sharp design, maybe. 200 HP @ a minimum. The interior is a little lackluster as well. Likely that Toyota has purposely held back out of fear of losing potential Lexus buyers. They held back too far, in my humble opinion.
@Mgoblagulkablong
@Mgoblagulkablong Год назад
There is a 197 hp version and a 220+ hp version so what are you even talking about... Where are you even going to use any more power???
@patrickdgarez86
@patrickdgarez86 Год назад
@@Mgoblagulkablong By no means do I own anything near a sports car. Call it a nice V6 with 320 HP and I use every bit of it, from time to time, on the highway (US/Miami) and appreciate having it available when I need to push into or out of a space. Ultimately, it's the torque that I want but torque numbers are almost always lower than HP, so if the HP is low... 220? OK but at what extra cost?
@Mgoblagulkablong
@Mgoblagulkablong Год назад
new CHR wont even be offered in US...@@patrickdgarez86
@matthewhartman7176
@matthewhartman7176 Год назад
@@patrickdgarez86 If you can't pass on anyone on the highway with a C-HR, either gen 1 or gen 2, you're definitely driving like your grandmother. You can't blame the car for that. If you're looking at cars for the reported HP on paper, that's a poor way to get that done. More factors go into a car than just broad HP. There are some cars that are objectively fast, like the newest gen Supra, but are so comfortable on the road they feel "slow". The stock C-HR doesn't have 320 HP. There are some modified circuit C-HR that have an excess of 600 HP. But you don't NEED 320 HP to pass on anyone on the highway, and you don't need 320 HP to feel and perceive speed. 320HP for passing other drivers within legal speed limits on the highway...Overkill rationalization.
@patrickdgarez86
@patrickdgarez86 Год назад
@@matthewhartman7176 Did I say anything about passing others legally? And I answered the matter of torque in a response to another comment. With that said, given that throughout automobile history the only measurement touted is horsepower and that hyper cars are now touching 2k HP, is it really me that is the granny? I am afraid that, on the subject of HP, your belief that less is more is in the minority. Beyond this I imagine that you have never driven on a highway in Miami where there are no rules and squirting into open space to avoid idiots is the wise play. Beyond this, by virtue of the fact that we are chatting on a car channel one would think that you would appreciate that I am not here for consumer advice but rather because I love cars. An astute observer might deduce that I enjoy "spirited" driving. Finally, it is clear that in your overly emotional reaction to my comment, you seem to have missed that I made a correlation between cost and power. This would insinuate that this level of "gutless" levels of hp be reserved for the economy level vehicle, not at the 40K sterling price point (you get hosed in the UK, taxes etc) but come on, are you telling me that you are cool paying that much for such a weak engine? Even at US prices... So, despite your attempt to "take the piss", I stand by my original comment. If a car maker is going to make an exciting looking exterior and charge a premium price (I didn't say luxury), then don't sell it with an anemic engine (because my issues with this engine go well beyond simply the hp number. I just didn't want to go into more detail). Have a good day.

Right off the bat: the presence!! The previous generation was stylish enough, but this one stands out like no other. I LOVE the new lighting at the front. Reminds me of the new Prius and the 2025 BZ concept SUV. Flush door handles arent my thing but i get why they exist on hybrids. At the back, they finally got rid of that damn wiper!! I'm really impressed by the styling of this car, both inside and out. I test drove the previous version, as I did like the exterior styling at the time, but I thought the interior was dated and the car was underpowered. In the end, I bought a Peugeot 3008, which I have really enjoyed. I'm now about to consider an upgrade. I moved to NZ and although Peugeot have got a lot more popular here, the service centers are far and wide apart. Toyota on the other-hand is well serviced locally and....I really think this new model is stunning. That Blue is really nice. I'm not actually a fan of the two tone colour of the high end model. Just not for me. At the moment, the new model has not arrived in NZ, so I will have to wait a few months for my test drive. I also like that Toyota have kept a more traditional dash cluster, rather than gone for a long screen and minimalistic design. Cockpit style designs are better in my opinion.

Is the other car blue or green? Anyways, it's a good one. You're right the car definitely needs a pan roof. Those huge C pillars really make it dark inside

The new Prius is more efficient and better looking IMO. Massive shame we're not getting it in the UK.

Its extraordinary that from all those reviewers in the world, Toyota let a UK lady to first show their new C-HR outside. Go figure... Even though her legs are not reaching the ground in the rear seats, she says that space is not enough...

There quite a few videos of the CHR, I’m just got in a studio? Was your issue with a UK lady seeing it first? Considering it’s designed for Europe? I’m sorry but the rear is not spacious in any way that you look at it. It has its pro’s - space in the back is not one of them

Yes, the rear leg room looked huge and scratchy plastics? Its a Toyota if you want fancy soft touch door card materials buy a Lexus,.. Also at 9:33 current CH-R does not start at just under GBP 30k but 34,500 so the new one will be priced towards the mid-late thirties in the UK. It might seem like a nitpick but you don't want to give the false impression that the new CH-R will retail in the low thirties.

Great looking SUV. Those rear windows fefinitely look larger than the ones on the outgoing model.

Definitely are. And I hate it. The smaller back windows of gen 1 look sportier, like a cropped top roof. If you're going for practically, nothing about the C-HR, whether gen 1 or 2 screams sensible Subaru. The C-HR is not the family car by any means.

I'm so thankful that new Toyota models still have physical climate control buttons. Very well said that it's very driver focused, very true. Also I am glad that unlike other brands like tesla, bmw, etc Toyota focuses their vehicles to be reliable (ofc) with very practical interiors (you don't feel like a nerd has designed "the mInImALiStIC iNtErIoR like what tesla has). Kudos to Toyota for staying true and listening to the their customers and delivering one hell of a vehicles 😅

I like your posh accent, but the headlights... just don't look very good. A bit like taken out of Crown Sport, but a bit worst. I also don't like the shape of the fenders. It just doesn't look as unique as the slightly older generation. It reminds me of MG4.

Why does she have VIP access to the new CHR? I haven't spotted that car in the wild yet, and also her RU-vid channel's subscribers are fewer than the people in my group chat! Something is abreast here.

😂 this is so funny. Why is it an issue? These are the same cars everyone filmed in a studio, I’m just… not in a studio 😅 I was at a Toyota and Lexus round up event and they had this here as a surprise… I just ceased my opportunity. Anyone would have been able to do the same.

UK market is getting the new C-HR, It will slot in the UK model line up between the Yaris Cross & RAV4.

We have been told we are getting this instead of the new Prius and the Corolla Cross. Rather annoying as I like everything I have seen about the Corolla Cross. Of course different countries get different model ranges. Checking out Autotrader UK there are 507 Corolla Estate Car (Wagons) compared to just 25 Saloons.
