Yes Canadians did this. Those Canadians were fighting under a British flag, but it doesn't change the fact they were Canadian. Saying that Canadians did not participate in this war would be like saying that Germany didn't fight in any World Wars because The Federal Republic of Germany (the current German state) did not even exist at the time, but rather a previous political entity (The German Empire and later Nazi Germany) that did. We of course know that it was indeed Germans who fought, just under a different flag than the current Federal Republic of Germany. Or that the Chinese never fought in any Opium War against the British, because the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China did not even exist at the time, but rather a previous political entity (The Qing Empire) that the soldiers fought under. It was indeed Chinese who fought the British, even though they fought under a Manchurian flag rather than that of the current People's Republic of China. Or how about this for comparison: The American Declaration of Independence was in 1776. Does this mean that in all the battles of the Revolutionary War that occurred in 1775 and in the first half of 1776, the British were not fighting against Americans, but rather the British were fighting against other British? Of course not - Americans were American even before the Declaration of Independence, just as Canadians were Canadian even before Confederation. Canadians fought Americans in the War of 1812, they simply did so under a different flag than the current political entity.

in 1812 Canada did not exist. Was British troops that fought the yanks. So England beat the yanks, not Canada.

Not an English Army or Navy as of 1707 and the personal union of Scotland, but British. I do believe there were colonial axillary units in DC as well.

Incoming Americans who deny they lost the War of 1812 and Canada had no part in the war. *sigh*

Canada didn't exist yet and America fought the worlds super power (For the second time) and it resulted in no major territorial changes either way. America did pretty damn good for herself. And i'm a Canadian.

@@michaeld8280 Canada did exist. It was a British colony broken into two sections, Lower and Upper Canada. (funny how it was reversed!)

Of course, Canada was not a country until 1867, therefore; the British carried out this operation. The soldiers may well have been a militia of men who were born and raised in the new world, but they were not Canadians as Canada did not yet exist.

War of 1812 was a tie. Status quo antebellum. British soldiers burnt the White House. Not Canadians, they were busy defending Canada. The only reason Washington fell was because America’s best fighters were tied up in the north. If you really wana claim Canada did it, then Canada must’ve also lost the Battle of Baltimore and New Orleans. Two of the greatest battles in American history. Idk what they teach up in Canada, but it sure is false history.
