FSL4Res is designed to provide crew leaders on residential projects leadership skills they can use to improve jobsite safety climate.
Outcome B: Franco, a foreman, suspects that Emilio, an experienced worker, may have heat exhaustion. (See Main Scenario: It’s Too Hot.) He walks Emilio to a trailer so Emilio can rest, get food and water, and stay inside for the rest of the day. Franco asks Emilio to repeat his instructions back to him. Emilio does this but leaves out the part about stopping work for the rest of the day. Franco corrects him and, when Emilio protests, says that another crew member will finish Emilio’s job.
Leadership Skills: In Outcome B (see also Outcome A), Franco practices 3-way communication, so that Emilio understands he is to rest in the trailer for the remainder of the day. Franco leads by example and engages Emilio by offering to have another crewmember finish Emilio’s task.
