Loving the series. I did worry when you welded near the fuel tank but you survived😅😁. Great to see a video but don’t pressure yourself to put one out if you’re not ready. 😊
Really enjoying this rebuild video, have just finished a refubish on a rubber bumper GT this year myself. Keep the good work up and happy to hear of any up dates each week, even if a section isn't finished entirely, cheers TF😊
These jobs are just like Q: How do you eat an elephant? A: One mouthful at a time. You've made good progress, I'm happy to watch these longer episodes, you get to wherever you get to, no sweat. I can't get my mind around the strange places these bodies rot in places where they're driven on salted winter roads. Keep on plugging away at it, you're doing a thorough job, that's worth doing. The drivers side seat belt and rear spring hanger mountings were a bit "past it". Cheers.
Lots of great progress there. I would of been inclined to have used heavier gauge steel than a but of the old wing but there you go. Happy to watch whatever length videos on your progress. It's coming along. 👍
Thank you for watching! It was a consideration but then I measured the thickness of the metal I removed and the old wings metal was in fact very slightly thicker. 👍🏻
One a week is best, if you make lots of progress, excellent but if not it’s real, and that’s fine too, many of us have been in your shoes and can empathise. You’re doing great with it by the way, a nice example, well worth saving 👍
Great video 👍 The list idea is brilliant and the rust treatment you used is basically phosphoric acid but a lot more money 😢 a bigger repair panel takes no longer than a small repair panel in time 😊
A new rear spring hanger and closure plate is £147.50 from MBGHive. I would consider fitting in new considering that its an important load bearing area and it would probably save you a lot of time trying to re-manufacture this area. Just a thought, keep up the good work👍
Watched further into the video after you cleaned up the area and the spring hanger was in a pretty good state, I shall have to be more patient and not jump to the wrong conclusions lol
11/10 for this video! Great determination to get it DONE. Did mine in the late 1980's but it was not as bad back then. Great cars, lovely to run. KEEP AT IT!
Make a new lip using the new outer arch as a template before fitting. You could joggle the top so the panel fits flush. Top tip don't weld the arch lip on the new outer panel. Use panel glue. Trying to grind the spot welds on the arch will mutilate it.
It's only the closing panel that's rotted. The spring hanger box is like that. Once welded in,it has a closing panel welded in the same as the panel your making.
@@MGracer87 if money wasn’t an issue yes. But it is so the gasless will have to do for now! The cheap gas migs with limited settings are not very good either and with the small gas bottles they are inconvenient 👍🏻 it’s tricky to use the gasless but it does provide strong welds. The issue is the flux comes to the surface hence the pockets in the welds.
