It AIN’T the Brakes! Chevrolet Malibu Brakes Hard To Stop (Common Issue)

Hey Good People,
I had a 2019 Chevrolet Malibu in the shop this week. Customer stated that it was hard to stop the vehicle while driving. Most people techs will automatically blame the brake master cylinder. However that isn't case with the latest generation of Chevy Malibu's. Check out the video and see what's causing this issue. And as always, comment your two cents below! I'd love to hear from you guys.
Your favorite Mechanic,
Alex

Just got rid of my 2011 Malibu. Had the 2.4 timing chain slap going on. To me it wasn't worth the value of the car to repair, got an awesome trade in credit on a 2020 Camry for it and couldn't be happier. Really enjoy your videos, you and your wife have amazing positive energy you can feel it through the camera

@@jimsix9929 thank you! The code that came up was P06DE.
@jimsix9929
@jimsix9929 10 месяцев назад
that code has to do with engine oil pressure, first thing is check the oil, and do not use 5w20, 5 w30 will work a lot better, the 5w20 was just to get better fuel economy numbers but is not good for the engine, if the oil looks good, and the engine is in good shape, no noises then it is most likely that the engine oil pressure solenoid is at fault, but get an oil change, try that 1st, then I would replace that solenoid, it is just above the oil filter, not a hard job, and they do fail a lot, hope this helps@@Playlistcd

Alex and your wife make the most informative vids. That Caddy roller liver failure is what some Ram 5.7 hemi engines do when idled too long and oil is not changed. Mine hasn't yet but I'm trading the 2019 before 100k. I don't think it's the cam deactivation but an oiling issue under 20k rpm. Regardless I like your videos and your sense of humor when explaining things. Following you guys.

So, everyone talks about how zinc and phosphorus removal from over the counter engine oils is bad for older flat tappet cammed engines. Do you think, this is also the cause for flaking in roller lifters and camshafts?
@jimsix9929
@jimsix9929 10 месяцев назад
so glad you said that I was thinking the same thing, I am a pro mechanic, seeing hemi 5.7 and gm trucks coming in with lifter failures , it is not a cheap repair, only thing I can think is the oil is not doing the job, I always use racing oil in my old hotrods to protect the old flat tappet cam and lifters, but the load on these trucks has to be a lot, even with rollers, the ones I have seen look like the bearing in the roller failed first
@rustedhorsepower5132
@rustedhorsepower5132 10 месяцев назад
@@jimsix9929 im also a pro mechanic, and in the past i worked for GM(dealership). But the roller failures i saw seemed like the roller flaked. But whats funny is, this was only in the v8s, not the 4 cyls or the 6s. GM always dismissed it as "a batch of poorly tempered metal". And they always blamed mexico for it. But the zinc and phosphorus removal makes sense. Its a worthy investment in paying a little more for oil vs a cam and lifters...i think.
@jimsix9929
@jimsix9929 10 месяцев назад
so if you are seeing the roller fail then it is a lubricant problem or just bad metal, what do you think?@@rustedhorsepower5132
@jimsix9929
@jimsix9929 10 месяцев назад
so nice to talk to someone that really knows this stuff, could be a problem with valve spring pressure, a valve that has a bounce will wipe out a cam or a lifter, could just be a design problem, let me know what you think
@rustedhorsepower5132
@rustedhorsepower5132 10 месяцев назад
@@jimsix9929 i have seen collapsed afm/dod lifters bounce on a cam and destroy a cam. But, this flaking, i dont think is related to spring pressure. Ive seen bad ones that have chunks flaked off, and some just starting that look like they have pitting on the cam surface. So that pitting kind of points to the oil or the metal treatment. But who knows. Maybe GM is right and its just certain lot numbers, certain years. Because early model LS motors did not have this issue.

Would you be able to help me? Seriously. We will pay. I have a 2011 buick enclave that chuggs. I bought this vehicke in May. Since weve spent 10K total. Shop said we needed a new motor cause they put 3 new coil packs on and a week later all three melted. No idea now. Then shop said we needed a new motor. 8K later its dying and wont start. Back at shop. 2 weeks now when he said it now needs a new fuel pump in tank. I dont know how you could, not being here. I have a link full if google photos and vides if how ir drives, thr err err err hesitation it has only on highway. He said fuel air mixture is messed hp. He couldnt have cought that before ? He also said we were getting a brand new motor and it would take a week. Took two and a half minths. After it was in they had to replaxe fuel injextor and catalytic converter, which now sounds like a weedeater. Idk what to do anymore.

If you haven't paid yet then don't pay. Might have to use legal action to get the money back. Sounds like the mechanic is guessing one part at a time, which is the expensive way to do it. Could be a wire harness issue causing it all but that has to be diagnosed.

@@AlexTheCarDoctor Hi. I will include a link below to a Buick forum where I've posted about this. There I have a link to my Google Photos where I created a folder with several photos and videos of what it's doing. Along with receipts. What we may have misinterpreted was what a 'Brand New' motor was. We thought he was ordering an All GM motor for it. Exactly like the one that was in it. He also said 'Brand New' which we took as made new. Had no idea that's not what it would be. Maybe that's ignorance on my part for not researching it better. I'm willing to admit that. However, IF I owned a business, I would make sure my customers understood exactly what it was they were getting. It's like going to a nail salon and expecting to automatically know their language. I don't know much about cars. And I told him that the first day I went there. Now saying he is taking advantage. Just stating a fact. I can change my oil, change a tire. I'm not an idiot. LOL, I grew up on a farm and was a truck driver for 15 years. I just don't know about about cars. Had no idea the fuel injection wasn't part of the motor at all, for example. I'm not trying to tarnish the guy. He has very good ratings although this isn't the first issue I've had where it led to another and another and the bill kept piling up. I bought this vehicle in May and it's been in the shop more than I've gotten to enjoy it. Amyways, I have no doubt you are a very busy guy, so IF you find the time to look the link is below. Thank you very much 🙏🏻 Thread 'Calling all Mechanics and smart people.' buickforums.com/forums/threads/calling-all-mechanics-and-smart-people.70904/

@@tomtom1541 That would be hard. He probably feels like we bought a junk vehicle and expected him to just fix it. But he guided us into buying a brand new motor after we spent $1000 for a tune-up, to which 3 of the brand new coil packs MELTED inside the block or wherever. But he said there was so much carbon buildup we needed a new motor. He could get us a "brand new" one with a 100K/3 year warranty for $4200, final cost of $7200. 1, we thought we were getting a GM engine. What was IN the vehicle? 2) we thought brand new was brand new. Maybe I was ignorant in not knowing what I was getting. But why wouldn't you put what was in it back in it? I've researched, and for 4800 I found an ALL-GM motor. $800 more than whatever we got. He said nothing about it 2as GM. He never does that. Part costs too much he says. But I said "But it's our choice if we WANT to put GM back on it"? And he said "Well, yeah"...ok. that's WHAT WE THOUGHT WE WAS GETTING?! Maybe give us the option? Sorry. I'm getting worked up again. It frustrates me. Because it's my parent's money. I've fallen on rough times. My girlfriend of 12 years moved out a while back when fighting disability got tough. But wasn't all her fault either. So. Just is what it is. Very frustrating. And this Saturday will be 2 weeks since it's been broken down again. Wouldn't start. Had to pay $60 for 2 miles (Maybe that's good so not bitching) he called last Monday and said the fuel/air mix was all off. That's why it's chugging. But I thought the carbon was why it was chugging. I even asked him before we decided to go with the motor "My concern is it's an older vehicle, what if we get a motor and it's the AWD, or the Tranny, or the computer"? And he assured me if it had any of those things wrong with it, it would throw a code. Missouri is a one-party state. Meaning you don't have to tell the other party your voice recording them. I used to be able to record all my calls. Keep the ones I deemed I may need one day and delete the rest. But those apps don't work anymore. I'm sorry I've written a book back!! I'll shut up now.
