It Ain't Necessarily So 

My #1 favorite Jazz guitarist since I was 13 years old in 1982. An elderly man who owned a corner shop near where I caught the bus for school gave me the 'Green street' record when he found out I was a guitarist and music fanatic. He also gave me sound advice on guitar technique advice that I still use to this day. Long live the legend of the double G.

Grant Green is recognizable from his very first note - the masters always have a style of their own, and Green was certainly no exception.

Thank you Universal for this fabulous posting. The masters have taken a Porgy and Bess tune and made it their own from the first note. It is up tempo yet they take their time. Grant invented a new instrument---The Grant Green guitar. Every note he plays stands on its own and can be easily understood. I must thank Micheal Howell (Jazzmobile Saturday Workshop) guitar teacher extraordinaire for pulling my coat to the excellence of Mr. Grant Green. I've been a jazz queen since 1957 but this is the best recording of "It Ain't Necessarily So" that I've ever heard. Sonny Clark's comping and soloing is so "in the pocket" like they were born to play together. Grant's trading of fours with the drummer is totally awesome and masterful. Many, many stars!

It doesn't get much better than that . Grant Green was always on another level. This proves it again as it is just outstanding...Sonny Clark and Art Blakey top it off....

Great song for an atheist/non believer to hear. Don't always listen to what preachers say or what the books have written. It Ain't Necessarily So.

I'm a traditional blues fan and guitar player. Grant sounds deeply rooted in blues than other jazz guitarists. Love this. Stay safe God bless Rock on.
