It's always such a pleasure when you guys do a review of a more popular movie, because it pretty much guarantees at least a few new viewers/subscribers, and you guys totally deserve a ton of views/subs. With all the hate-centric critics out there, you guys are a diamond in the rough with your objective approach and overall structure of your reviews. It's so much more appealing and refreshing to me than the constant rage-fueled humor most youtube critics seem to strive towards. Kudos for keeping it real and staying on topic

@@Andy_Sidaris Yeah, but at least these reviews aren't filled with forced jokes and lame skits followed by them making even more horrible jokes every ten seconds. We have Gary and Ian who have a great friendship and passion for films, pure authentic reactions, discussions and humor. To make things even better, they go over their films point by point, talking about the behind the scenes and giving us long reviews. Off the Shelf Reviews is a very underrated channel that deserves more attention. After seeing the way they handle their films, I'd love to see them review modern and retro games, history, comics, etc.

Was a difficult task to make this side of the history, part of the success of the first is that for audiences the young teens feel more vulnerable physically and mentally, and however they beat IT in the end, something not easy to replicate now with adults, so they made this version more fun and weird sometimes, more blockbuster focused. While this is good, well made, well cast, usually people like the first more because is more relatable in a personal level.

„I know why u wanna hate me, cause hate is all the world has even seen lately“😎❤️‍🔥 33:45 It’s actually not that far off. Billy suffers from severe PTSD and in this situation he gets triggered constantly. It seems unrealistic, but it really isn’t. If you get triggered really badly, your brain just throws every logic right out the window. In your head you are stuck reliving your trauma quite vividly. That’s a reaction I had several times in my live. So McAvoy did his Homework quite well in these regards. But he probably still knows a lot about this stuff from his work on split anyways. Edit.: Even Pennywise knows this and uses this against billy by showing him images of these hands. Its quite clever, I think.

I have mixed feelings about part 2. "IT" is one of my most favourite books and my favourite King Novel. Part one was a near perfect adaption of the book, but the second I found less of a letdown as others might because the weakest elements of the book is the adult periods of time. So part 2 was never gonna be as good as the first anyway. So its a great follow up with that in mind and lower expectations.
@gRinchY-op5vr
@gRinchY-op5vr Год назад
I felt this way about the mini series and the theatrical adaptations, always more invested in the parts where they are children than when they have grown up. I think part of it is the tension in children having to face off against this great evil as well as the abusive/neglectful adults in their lives.
@TheDeadsideofYouTube
@TheDeadsideofYouTube Год назад
@@gRinchY-op5vr Stories with elements like “IT” such as stand by me, goonies and season one of stranger things etc give that sense of child-like adventure with danger that the adult parts just don’t have. It’s an often under appreciated art because it’s heavily reliant on the child actors when it’s live action as apposed to a book. It’s much harder in Chapter Two because we’ve already seen Pennywise lose to the kid versions, which already lessens the threat to the adult versions. It’s possibly why the book interchanges between child and adult rather than linear.
@Argos-xb8ek
@Argos-xb8ek 10 месяцев назад
For me its that they water down all the actual horror elements the adult versions go through. Especially Mike and they could've played up how his confrontation between Pennywise leads him feeling outmanned and outgunned how he's being constantly watched and slowly going insane not just with the feeling of Penngwise watching him but also finding out all the horrific stuff that happened in town also the people Mike actually meeting the few people in Derry that have experiences with Pennywise and the evil supernatural occupancies Mike can associate with him. It's like a Noir thing because at the same time multiple children are going missing or being found dead they just fumbled his potential angle into horror so hard.

I absolutely loved the book. I considered it King's best at the time. (I thought 'The Dead Zone' & 'Christine' could not be surpassed. I was wrong). It is with dread when I hear that another of King's books is being filmed. They rarely turn out to be any good, or they barely understand the book. And so, I have yet to see the latest "It" Movies. Cheers guys, I might just give these films a go.

Nice review. A lot of Your thoughts match mine. I like the fortune cookie scene and the creature conces but it's somewhat comedic in its execution which is distracting from the tension. Apparently Andy Muschietti actually fought the producers to have the angel of the morning kept in. Which is bizarre! The witch was actually done practically with actor Javier Botet in latex, but they added cgi later. I have my issues but generally I really like the movie. My main gripe would probably be that in this version they get angry with Mike for bringing them back and keep wanting to leave.

Yeah man, I'm wondering that too (30 here) lol I feel the orig overall is creepier "toned down believability 😅" and better chemistry/acting (w/the cheese and "dated-ness") take away that god awful spider scene at the end and we're good haha I felt that the newer ones were too comedic or comedic at wrong times and overused their scare methods a bit much lol like running towards the camera(protags) also the cgi was ass too. Subtlety goes a looong way. But grading it w/modern movie standards it's a good film. But for me, it was ok.. basically a one and done watch.

Justice for Mike! He was so buried in this version whereas in the original he really felt like the glue that held the group together. All together Parts 1 & 2 are just too messy and this version can't seem to figure out what tone it wants to be. The original knew it's tone and had personality, yes it was cheesey but I'd much rather take cheese over cringe anyday.

Chapter Two was good. But I personally didn't like it as much as I did with Part I. Part I was closely following the book, yeah there were a few changes here and there, but overall, it was still a good faithful adaptation. Chapter Two was faithful with the book as well, but when it came to the ending, I was really hoping we were going to get that trippy segment in space where the characters were hallucinating and crazy shit happening. I won't go in depth, but trust me when I say, in the book, it was insane! The flashback with the kids retuning was nice to see, but pointless at the same time. I felt like those segments were only there for jump scare purposes. It doesn't really move the plot forward. I can go on, but I won't. There are awesome moments in this movie. It's not a bad film, I still enjoyed it. Just...not as GOOD as the first movie. I still recommend it myself! Good review, guys!

I liked pt 2 better than the first one. I don’t know I felt the first one was trying too hard to be Stranger Things and changing the setting to the 80s was a mistake as the 50s is so integral to the story. I mean 80% of the book is just about small town 50s American life
@Thena_the_Grey
@Thena_the_Grey Год назад
I liked the first part since it seemed they had the CGI dialed in and it was more reserved (with the exception of the painting and Leper of course). I felt the CGI in the second part has many cut corners and just removed me from the story. Also, in my personal experience having moved to two small towns (populations under 300), I don't feel like much has changed over the centuries. Gas pumps are still pump before you pay, people can just walk into a friend's house since they aren't locked etc. I feel if you just swapped out the vehicles and tech, this type of area would pass as a mid century location (some unfortunate mindsets to go with it too)

It: Chapter two feels like a mistake to me. They completely screwed the tone established by chapter one. The first part is a decent remake, and a good horror movie as a standalone. The second part became a joke, a dark comedy at best. The original miniseries is not perfect, but it at least it kept a constant tone. Hopefully we’ll get a director’s cut that fixes this at some point.

I don't enjoy watching them, although i'm trying to watch more recently, I've always found them cheesy... even highly acclaimed ones. But... I have always found them interesting. I've watched far more behind the scenes, reviews or analysis pieces about horror movies than actual horror movies themselves. You always do great reviews, quite often they are close to half the length of the movie you are reviewing. Always interesting and entertaining. You come across as so passionate movies and so approachable as people. Love your stuff.

Regarding if it still lives, I doubt it. If anything lives its Its kid. In the book after defeating It they discover that it has been laying eggs and they spend time smashing them, but they are not 100% they got them all. With It being presumably the only thing like it on earth the eggs would probably be clones, as whatever was in the eggs was definitely alive. Maybe genetic memory as well so if one survived it essentially is pennywise

Glad you guys reviewed these good job. This second part is good but somewhat overlong and less tonally consistent seeing the kids come together and start a friendship after being losers is just more interesting then watching old adults because you see the development of the friendship. However I think this second Chapter is still a good time but I dont think either the mini series or tbis movie has truly tapped the potential in an IT sequel yet. I predict the Welcome to Derry series will be better then Chapter 2 despite me liking it I predict the series will probally focus on more kids fighting the Clown.

One of my favorite things about this version was how they altered up Richie Tozier's character. In the book, he's a shock jock in the early 80s (so before people like Limbaugh ruined that term for everyone on the planet), and in the mini-series he's a famous stand-up comedian. In this one, he's still a famous comedian, but the gay aspect adds a very modern twist to the character. In the book his father was very supportive (in the no-nonsense 1950s father way) of his sons talents and interests. The miniseries pulls away from this part of Richie's family, as does this movie sadly. But this revelation of his latent, hidden sexuality added a lot to the character. You see where the comedy-as-a-mask behavior comes from. It adds a lot to the Eddie and Richie friendship. It sucks for RIchie that the love is one-sided, but it really does add to the very protective nature Richie always had for Eddie in the source material. Also, Bill Hader is just a treasure. He is only recently getting the accolades he has deserved for a very long time.

Since the kids segment was split off in part 1, I think It 2 should have been a near total tear down in the script department and veer wildly from the King novel. I say this just because in sequel form the adults just go up against the same menace they defeated as kids. They really needed to up the stakes, change things up. That, and the opening scene of a gay couple being assaulted and nearly murdered in MAINE 2019 seemed pretty ridiculous.
