Welp here we are everyone, we know the value of my 2020 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG after 10k miles and 6 months of ownership. It turns out with a MSRP of $73k the car is only worth around $45k which amounts to the $28k cost of ownership. The real question is, do I buy a new car? Comment below what you think!

Wow, cars depreciate in value. Very insightful video! thank you for sharing such a unique insight. Seriously though, when people read your title they're expecting you spent 28k on repair or maintenance costs or maybe fuel too.

Guess this has changed a lot now, I bought a 2023 model, sticker was $64,525, paid $60,125, car is 7 months old and has 4600 miles and the local Mercedes-Benz dealer here offered me $57,000 trade. I think the car has held value very well. Car Edge shows after 4 years that this car will still maintain 73% of its value. That's very storing. It does show a big fall of from year 4 to year 5, but that's typical for most any car.

First year is always a huge hit, its always a bad idea to sell a new car in under a year after buying new. In the UK when we buy new we get a huge first year road tax bill and we also pay 20% of the list price in tax so your loosing over 20% already before we even get to the cars depreciatation. Thats why i think its best to lease or finance so you can swap every couple of years. EIther way a new cars rarely ever going to be a good financial investment, but you cant beat the fun and enjoyment of ownership!

@@shiftautomotive854 For me it's been reliable, mind you I only put 20k on it in 5years. It was my daily to work for about a year, but I prefer to drive my beater honda CR-V to work. The reliability goes down when you start to get into adding performance parts and not getting a Tune for them. My car was down for over a year because I put a bit on performance parts on it and wanted to use e85 fuel. I did have a problem with the car stalling, came to find out it was a faulty aftermarket fuel pump I had installed so not the car itself. Also, the fuel pressure relays had a Recall but the Mitsubishi dealers were in charge of replacing those. I ordered my own and did them myself. It's been a fun car and AWD launches down the track are exhilarating. Good luck finding your next fun car 👍🏽

The dealers will never give you the real worth of the car because they are trying to make money. Your car is worth more for sure. But this is what they are willing to part with or exchange for a trade. That depreciation word instantly goes into effect the moment it is driven off the lot, which I'm sure you know. But ya, that is one hell of alot! But you have to factor in the fact the dealers won't give you the real worth. You would be better to sell the car outright to someone for the Blue Book value I'd say! 🤓

Here in sweden sportscars in generall are rear , there are acouple cars such as the panamera, macans and so on that sell alot and you see everywhere. However many sports cars are order only and many dealerships dont even have them in store. Therefore they keep their value second hand pretty well compared to other countries. Its kinda like, if u want the car today you should expect the to pay a higher price. Otherwise you need to wait 6 months for the car. Some dealerships even increase the new car value alot if they have it new in stock because they know the buyers have no other choice.

So that’s why I always decide carefully which new car I should buy. I would sell/give mine after 4 years to my brother or sell it to my neighbours and buy my self a new car. For an Architect this is pretty easy and there are no money problems. Besides I wanted to say that a few years ago my dad bought a brand new Mercedes Van with about 60.000€ and sold it 45.000€ after one year because he didn’t liked. So don’t be that surprised. And the last question : why did you get the 2020 one? I ordered mine (a 2021 one) a few months ago end it arrived last week. So why didn’t you wait a few weeks? Maybe then you would be able to get the 2021 one. Btw nice wrapp. Bye!

But my man, you're talking about trade-in value. Of COURSE the dealer is going to stick it right up your rump with depreciation. If they're buying it, they have to turn around and sell it for $65k and make money on it. But on the open market, your car is not even to this day going for $45k. It would be $55k MINIMUM, if it's still got fairly low miles. So yeah, it's still lost approximately $18k. You wanna know why it's lost $18k in my opinion? One word: options. Your car is optioned out the whazoo but you know how much people pay for "used" options versus new? Hardly anything. A fraction of what they pay for it new. For example, the base model car comes with a stereo but your optioned out car comes with an upgraded stereo. Nobody buying your car later on is going to give a rip about the upgraded stereo or pay you more for it. In their eyes, both cars have a stereo. Period. Doesn't matter that the option for the upgraded stereo cost you $2,500. You're now getting probably close to zero for that. Or take seats for example. Say you get the performance upgrade on seats. The AMG performance seats are sweet, I must admit. But later on, the next buyer is going to get those seats for next to nothing because basically, both cars have seats. Yours just have seats that cost YOU a lot of money. They're not going to pay much additional for those seats at all. Certainly not the $3 grand you paid for them. That is, in my humble opinion, where all the money went.

You buy a Benz/Audi/BMW cause you love it or its your dream car. If you buy to sell, then depreciation is a problem for you.

LMFAO thats why you NEVER buy a car new, it literally makes no sense unless money is not an issue for you and you want to spec out your own car. The vast majority would rather just buy it used with like 15k miles for a good $25k less than MSRP on a brand new

Also your title is click bait because you didnt' spend that $28,000. If you sold it to the dealer like an idiot for their first offer, like you are describing in this video then yeah. They would be laughing all the way to the bank..

Question for you big brain RU-vidr why’d you buy a 4cylinder for 73k or so you are not fine at all and now you worried about depreciation smh 🤦🏽‍♂️

Video should be about depreciation not about owning the Benz or how much it cost to own the car ( daily expenses breakdown) which u didn't provide. Misleading people. Problem isn't with the car; it's with the systematic game that the market uses to rip off folks. Brand of the car is irrelevant. U lost money on a personal decision, and not because the car required funds to run.

Car depreciate in value that is normal. Learn to title your vechicle so you let us know if you talking about the expense of owning this vechicle or just stating the obvious.

Right now you can probably get 60k+ for it. On autotrader these are going for 64-70k used.

Don't buy a car for resale, otherwise you're just posing. Buy it to own it. 10+ year depreciation? Sure that is fine, but don't care about anything under 5 years at the earliest.

It didn’t lose that much value but they know it will stay in there shop for x amount of days so as if the are holding their money buying it so they want to make you pay for that on top of that they want to increase their profit and the lower they drop what the make their profits more if you want to know the real value try to check there price for a similar one and the difference is there profit So if you want to screw them sell it privately will a price that is more than what they gave you but lower than the price they selling a similar one
