After a woman supposedly commits suicide, Monk isn't so sure it is suicide after he investigates the scene and her ex-lover.
Monk is streaming now on Peacock: pck.tv/3JuixBg
From "Mr. Monk And The Astronaut" (Season 4 , Episode 14): Monk tries to prove that an astronaut committed murder despite the suspect's seemingly airtight alibi: he was in space. Jeffrey Donovan guest stars.

Monk Synopsis: Adrian Monk (Emmy®-winner Tony Shalhoub) was once a rising star with the San Francisco Police Department, legendary for using unconventional means to solve the department's most baffling cases. But after the tragic and still-unsolved murder of his wife, Trudy, the devastated Monk becomes obsessive-compulsive. His psychological disorder has caused him to develop an abnormal fear of virtually everything: germs, heights, crowds... even milk. Monk's condition costs him his job, but he's back as a police consultant despite the unique challenges he encounters in his everyday life. These challenges lead Monk to hire a personal nurse, Sharona Fleming (Bitty Schram), who is always there to offer her assistance, even with the simplest of tasks (like organizing his sock drawer). Her less-than-subtle prodding keeps the "defective detective" on track in his investigations, as well as in his efforts to convince Captain Stottlemeyer (Ted Levine) to allow him to return to the force.

I love how Stottlemeyer was never portrayed as stupid. This isn't the first time that he had a gut feeling or noticed something was off about the case, and only then brought in Monk. He was a genuinely good detective, just sometimes overshadowed by the freakishly skilled Monk.
@sanddagger36
@sanddagger36 2 года назад
You are right. Because of the few famous episodes where Monk or Natalie is related to the case somehow it often gets over looked but the most common way any of the cases start is that the captain brings in Monk of his own choice.

One of my favorite quotes is from this episode: Oh, yes. Oh, yes. I've caught a lot of killers. Some killers are very smart. And some are very powerful. Some are even famous. They don't think they will ever be caught. But in the end, they, they're always caught. And I'll tell you why. Because the police can make mistakes. I make mistakes all the time. But see, a killer has to be perfect. And nobody's perfect. It’s such a good threat

@danyoutube7491
@danyoutube7491 2 года назад
I see detectives do that a lot in films and TV, and I've often questioned the wisdom of it. But the person on the other end is either a potential witness of some sort, or a perpetrator. If they are a witness who could shine a light on the victim's life then there is no harm, and if it is the perpetrator then they have to think on their feet to sound surprised at the death and to give a good explanation- you might not be expecting a call from the police so soon after the death, and if you see your victim's number coming up on your phone that could be shocking and make it harder to concentrate on a convincing lie. In any case, the only way I can see this move going wrong is if the perpetrator had expected to not be connected to the victim at all (impossible in this case, as it is plain he knew her well), and panics at the realisation the police know he spoke to her, in which case he might take a hostage or simply do a runner and never be caught.
@tom_something
@tom_something 2 года назад
@@danyoutube7491 While I agree that it's good to surprise the person, in this case the detective is also surprising himself. What I'm suggesting, is just to look up the number, see who it is, work out a plan of action. And _then_ contact that person, once you have an idea of who it is.

There’s one more piece of evidence that makes it clear that it wasn’t suicide. The knot used was inconsistent, you don’t just tie the rope around your neck, you wouldn’t be able to see if it worked. If someone were to attempt such a thing, you would use a slip knot, where it would tighten the noose when it was pulled, it’s actually how a hangman’s noose worked. Don’t get me wrong, there are other uses for a slip knot, but that was one of the main ways to use it.
@battlesheep2552
@battlesheep2552 10 месяцев назад
I wouldnt expect every suicidal person to have extensive knowledge on hangman's knots. In fact, I'm pretty sure there have been tons of botched suicide attempts that came about specifically because the person didn't know what they were doing.
@marckempe2143
@marckempe2143 10 месяцев назад
@@battlesheep2552 yes, but most people wouldn’t simply tie a noose around their neck. Also, since it was clearly staged to look like a suicide, the point is moot.

Ideal for 7 passengers of 5'6.5" height. Can you easily turn off the Encap mandated speed warning? Heat pump optional? No one pedal driving? Easy option to add to the software. Come on Peugeot, keep up! These are near no cost tweaks. Thanks for the review.

I have a weird sickening question, if you found someone who hanged themselves would you call the emergency number and leave them on the noose or would you try as fast as possible to bring or break the noose whilst calling the emergency number? In honest I wouldn't be sure what the right answer.

masks mostly protect others, but gloves would've been better for his health than the wipes
@danyoutube7491
@danyoutube7491 2 года назад
@@mrcombustiblelemon2902 The character probably wouldn't like the thought of wearing gloves for extended periods- all that time, your hands are sweating, and the small amount of bacteria in one's sweat will then have a perfect environment to multiply. I think that would be on Monk's mind, so that wiping his hands as well as he can and then disposing of the wipe immediately would be more to his liking. If I remember rightly (it is almost twenty years since I watched it!) he isn't scared specifically about particularly dangerous pathogens, he doesn't like the thought of more mundane germs either.

The side kick officer was always annoying to watch. Also, Monk solves all these crimes, and everytime he tells the captain something, he always doesn't believe it at first or quickly dismisses Monk like Monk doesn't know what he's doing. So annoying.
