It Doesn't Matter Anymore - Danny Gatton 

When I lived in Washington DC in the 70's, I saw Danny play regularly with he and The Fat Boys at The Childe Harold backing up Emmy Lou Harris as well as peforming by themselves. Danny played all over DC and in Maryland. The last time I saw him was at the Troubadour in Hollywood. Words cannot express his brilliance as a musician. We are all heartbroken that he was lost so tragically.

I am a music promoter and had a Danny Gatton concert booked and he died a month before the show. Horrible tragedy that he died so young. Imagine how scary good he would have been if he were still here 21 years later. RIP Danny...the greatest ever

He was simply INCREDIBLE! At one point, he picked up a banjo and commenced to *wailing* on it - I sat there speechless. I have *never* come from a Gatton show less than awestruck, his mastery of the Telecaster(y) [g] was 2nd to none. On the day he died, I was driving home from work in the rain & I heard the news on the radio. I pulled the car over and wept like a baby for 10 minutes. When I got home, I pulled out every album I had of him and cried throughout the night - I miss you, Danny!

I was born in '80 and never had a chance to see Danny live. I can't get enough of his playing. I have a DVD copy of this show and have watched it many times. As Barnekkid said below, this is my favorite track from my favorite Gatton album. What he did with this is killer. And the length of the guitar solo here is double the CD version! Danny, I never knew you, never had the chance to see you play live, and will never be 1/10th the musician you were. Thanks for the music. We ALL miss you.

Absolutely in awe of Danny; Mr. Danny Gatton. Opinion: THE BEST.

I had the privilege to see Danny in front of Joe's record paradise in 88 ish. the Bayou, Nine thirty club, Tordano ally, Birchmere. Best ever at Wolf Trap jazz blues fest. Danny followed Gatemoth Brown on the stage in the trees. Best show I ever saw

The best guitarist I ever heard, and the most regular guy you'd ever want to meet. Gone way too soon.

also what made danny great is he always preferred to play w/ a band. he rarely would play(if ever) by himself. it was always with a band with him. he needed those guys just like they needed him.

Thanks John Boda, I really appreciate this. It Doesn't Matter Anymore is my favorite song off Cruzin Deuces. When I heard that solo I figured I needed to learn guitar all over again, differently this time. I hope Dyno Don sees this.

thanks for sharing!! danny gatton and frank zappa never seemed to run out of ideas while improvising, and we never wanted the solo to stop. why aren't there more like them?

Danny is (was?) my favorite guitarist. I used to see him all the time at the Twist & Shout, Tornado Alley, etc. in the Washington, DC area. The first time I saw him was with Liz Meyer & Friends down at a free concert on P St. & Beach Dr. Liz played a coupla folks type tunes and she was groovin'! And then this guy with slicked back hair and a plain white t-shirt with a pack of smokes rolled up in the sleeve steps up and starts playing. And my jaw almost hit the ground!! (Cont'd....)

Only two other people had the mastery of the guitar as Gatton had: Hendrix and Rory Gallagher; all the rest are playing catch-up.
