It makes me so jealous of the timeline where this game came out and then the reboot of the series was never needed because they just kept building on them

I remember hearing about this game way back when and that it was going to include the ability to seamlessly go from ground combat to space combat and it left such an impression. The day I heard it was cancelled I was devastated. I can't even begin to tally up how much time I spent playing the original BF and BF2 with my friends. The fact that people have put so much work into trying to resurrect this game is amazing.

That last bit with the ship crashing Really shows you what the modern industry is missing. The Natural progression for the series at the time of 3's development was to make the concept bigger: combining space and ground combat, and then expanding on both ideas to make something resembling the previous games, but taking full advantage of the new technology the devs were using. Modern Battlefront never tried anything so ambitious because that's not what it was designed for. Even Battlefront 2 (2017) after its many patches and updates could never pull off something quite like this, with even the biggest battles the game can host still being smaller in concept than the space battles in the previous game. Modern games aren't made to use technology to the gameplay's benefit, they're made to extract your money, with all actual gameplay design being put into stats and upgrade mechanics

That’s great that we have a working version of it. I’m still sad we never got to play it back in the day it looked so promising. I have so many good memories of playing the og battlefront 2 when I was a kid. Good times simpler times

I should mention that the game was scrapped when it was 95% completed. One of the devs said all they had left to do was patch bugs and glitches.

It blows my mind that Star Wars is one of the biggest money making franchises of all time and they are sitting on literal gold mines if they made a Battlefront III, Republic Commando II, Empire at War remake and EA is like nah...I'm good.

Imagine if we got this,100 players per team, up to 30 reinforcements, 5 heroes each side at once and we would have to take care of 2 objectives at once, the capita ships which we could board and do stuff there and fighting on surface with being supposed to take ships or some other kind of transport to get there. THis would give us 100% star wars feeling. Also i think map like this should be able to handle over 100 players each side but 100 sounds reasonable, 200 would be a beautyful mess.

I was able to get a taste of the seamless ground to space combat in Starwars Battlefront: Elite Squadron for PSP, and I am so sad that I never got to see that feature in Battlefront on console

I can just imagine them completing this to a point where professional game devs start to pile on this and we end up getting entire war scenarios with hundreds of people fighting huge wars, like the second Death Star battle for example, you have people down on the planet fighting objectives, taking off from the ground and flying into the Death Stars fleet, a couple ships with layouts inside them where others are fighting, where as each ship goes down on either side those ships explode and everyone has to rush to their ships to escape each one and go to the next, both sides having bases on the planet too, and once one side destroys enough bases and ships the Death Star becomes the final battle, with the rebels desperately trying to destroy its reactor and the empire defending its main weapon or hyperdrive so it can blow up the base or hyperdrive away to victory (Yes I know this will never happen but I can dream :3)

Battlefront 2 was my first star wars game and still has a place in my favorite games of all time . Ahh the sweet memories of dogfighting in space.

I feel like if EA is going to pull a remake for this series, they might as well take the OG battlefronts, and combine them together while using this sort of gameplay. If I would give it a name, I would call it SW Battlefront: Legends, as it’s basically a double meaning for how well received the two games were and because it’s technically in the Legends canon

Even OG Battlefront 2 let you board ships and manually fly to the opposing frigate in gunships and stuff. In the new BF2 it’s all just cutscenes.

Battlefront and mercenaries are 2 franchises I really wanted to see be continued

I got to play the PSP version and I love the fact that you got to transition from ground fight, to dog fight in the sky, to flying into space to attack capital ships. You even got to invade the other team's ship, and destroy it from the inside and quickly hop in an escape pod to do an ODST style warfare. You can hop in your own capital ship and use the onboard cannons to shoot at the other ship, or even rain artillery at the ground! And yes, you can hop in your own ship's escape pods and rain reinforcements to the ground fight

its always been stupid to me that the bones of the game clearly existed, but no one that could have finished it ever did, as anyone who could either went out of business, had no interest, or had to fear the wrath of the mighty Disney lawsuit. Until now, I hope. I really hope this goes somewhere, and Disney doesn't decide to shit all over it, without themselves producing something of at least equal value. Which, with their many hundreds of billions, they have no excuse not to do if they decide to go after this. Just hopefully, they dont decide to give a fuck about this. We need a fresh battlefront and EA aint gonna give us that.

A friend of mine in Highschool was at his dads work place and started talking to one of his dads co workers. Turns out the guy use to work on Battlefront 3. The dude had a full working build of the game that was basically finished. The guy said he was a fan of the game and finished it himself after it was shut down but as always been too scared to post it. He gave my friend a flash drive with the game on it and let him put it on his laptop. My friend then let me play the game at school. It was so fun and amazing. So sad it never came out. Also to make sure the game was never leaked online the guy made it so every time the files were put on a new computer it would require a password to let the user play the game. So we never tried to do anything with it. I should see if he still has it and to see if someone could bypass the password.

I wish EA / DICE would stop messing around and turn the most recent battlefield into something like this. They made that game into something awesome, but the reputation was already through the floor from day 2 when they had the paid boxes, even though they were removed in less than a week.

The original battlefront 2 when playing online was free was the best star wars game by far. Even with all the technology advancements, whoever is in charge managed to fuck up the new ones really bad.
