This is a wonderful country where you southern folks feel cold at 45° but I'm just stinking happy we are above zero today here in the north. I am a bit jealous of your greens growing in the greenstalk, but I still love the snow. It's our different lifestyles that make it so interesting to watch you, and many other great RU-vid families, even when you're just talking about oiling the beep beep. Fancy like Applebee's.😅 i just get a kick out of you. I look forward to all your future projects. Pond, aviary, house, potager garden, etc. And I can't wait to see the license plates on the barn. The barn is looking fabulous with that repurposed tin siding. Keep up the good work!

I have a friend that was redoing her bathroom. When her soaking tub arrived with it's massage jets. She did what you did. However, she filled her tub, hooked up the power somehow for the jets. She dumped in some bubbles and had herself a for real bubble bath 🛀 in her driveway. In her bathing suit of course. Because, what would the neighbors think. LOL...

Our youngest did her undergrad at Auburn. She was a Wildlife major, and every summer did some kind of field work. She went on to Alberta, Canada for her Master's, and was astounded to discover that field work there halted when temperatures got above 75F. When she told her colleagues about working in Alabama summers, they actually Google fact checked her because they couldn't believe what she was saying. On the flip side, field work in sub zero winter conditions was nothing to them.

Hey yall should or get someone to extend the sides of your barn roof so you can drive your machines against your barn. so the roof slopes over and down to posts. so you would have two lean twos on each side of your barn. one side for equipment and one said for hay or just other stuff. Just an idea from your Canadian fan Sam :)

@Cog Hill Farm Podcast when you go to pick out a walk-in tub for Brooke's mom, make sure you get one that has a heater and drains quickly. Not all of them have heaters. The water can get cold quick and a nightmare to sit there waiting for it to drain so you can get out.

So great to hear all this activity happening on the Cog Hill 40. Power to everything, water to everything, the barn rebuild, the house to start this week and the pond too. Besides Mary Carl's aviary. Oh and the front gate. So exciting! Yes, you are more busy now than when you were working 40 hour job. You are building a whole new homestead. That's a huge job. So many moving parts to this project. Besides the channel video's, your podcast, and your gift vlogs. All the editing too. But pretty soon you will be gardening.

A word of advice from a former 200+ head of cattle operator...put your fencing on the INSIDE of all posts for Moody and Mildred's pasture. They love to crowd the fence (grass is always greener, you know) and will eventually push down and ruin a fence that's on the outside of the posts.

For the Purple Pigeon Palace, I feel that hardware cloth (top & sides) is practical. For shade and storm, you can use an industrial shade cloth (nursery use), on selected portions. Also, you have all those tree branches that you can suspend inside. These would be great for the Victorian couple to build a nest in too. You can also lay some tree trunks on the ground for the chickens to explore, and plant around them. This encourages pill bugs and worms that all birds love. I built my aviaries with the double doors as well, you will never regret it! In my most recent aviary, I used the double-wall clear fiberglass panels on the lower half of the sides (this prevents any damage from predators). I also used it on top, over the nesting area only, but if your pigeons nest inside, you don’t have to take the trouble to do that. Just a few thoughts… 🥰

We built a large pond with a waterfall and river leading into the pond. We went to every carpet store and dumpster dived to pull out all the used carpet we could get to line the bottom before we added the liner. I understand you need to be frugal. We lived there about 5 years with the pond. Never a leak from roots under the lining.

Our farm was 10 acres. 2 acre garden we always had something to fix or build, or harvest, plant, firewood to cut, split, store. Or myself or dad used the old D9 to fix roads. Firewood was family. D9 was me, or dad, gardening was Grams and I. Chickens family ones taken care of , every 6 months took an army with 600 to freezer camp. Never a dull moment. Loved every day of it.

You can special order the one piece shower with seat. They may not be displayed at the home centers, but the manufacturers usually have additional catalogs you can look through and order. Our one piece shower had a small leak at the on off handle, but because it backed up to another bathroom they just cut a small 4” hole in the drywall and fixed it easily then patched the drywall. There are less chances of leaking with the one piece than the panel type where they can leak anywhere there is a seam! The one piece can really only leak around the drain or where the control comes through the wall! So, just super seal around the drain and the control with flexible silicone.

Your mom may like what we have, a high rise toilet. My mom insisted my dad buy a taller toilet for older people, it’s so much easier on your knees. Once you adjust to the taller toilet and it’s not that great a difference, you’ll love it…also add the safety grip on the wall.

I usually don't watch podcasts but I so enjoy listening to both of you that I can't stop. Oh and anyone who doubts that you love your animals only needs to watch one of your videos to see how great you are with them and your animals love you back. ❤

Make sure your plumber knows your Mom is going to have that "walk in tub" and will need really good/fast drainage. I live in the country with a septic system and my plumbing does not drain fast. That is one reason I will not buy one of those tubs..I would sit there freezing 🥶 waiting on all that water to drain out. Just something I need to think about.

To let you know, it takes 2 weeks solid for the body to acclimatize to temperature change.

My husband said that very same thing once he quit working the work dwarves made his “to do” longer. Make sure absolutelypositivelyforsure get the stuff you want now don’t just take something that will have to do get what you want or the very closest thing to it cost wise because you got the opportunity to not have to look at something that your going to regret.

Take 1 day at a time and you will be fine. My grandmother always said God will provide you with what strength you need. He will work it all out in his time.

Look here, y'all need to be proud of yourselves. I know you are , I get it. I grew up with nothing but love and a great work ethic. I am proud of my wife and me. We worked hard, real hard. Y'all have too.

It will be a hassle, but you should make sure it holds water. My neighbor installed a tub, and it had a tiny pinhole in it. Took them months to find it. And they told them, that it is rare, but can happen.

I saw the coolest simple shower once. Instead of have a door that closes, it had a divider made of glass bricks.

The mold gets in the glass block creates. I woul put a sheet of plexiglass over the block area.....be way easier to clean. But you would still have the look.

IT'S 71 here is Tampa Fl and I am walking around with a t-shirt and sweatshirt on! LOL! I must admit though, having being born and raised in Upper NJ, I love the two months of "Cold" that we have down here now! I just love putting on my jeans and my sweatshirt or sweaters! We will have upper 90's soon enough, for months and months!

I guess it’s all relative to where you live. If it were 45 degrees here in Calgary, Alberta Canada we would be in shorts and T shirts! LOL! We just came out of a deep freeze and got up to 40 degrees today.

Hi Jason, Brooke and the Cogsquad. Jason/Brooke if your thinking of covering just part of the aviary, consider making it of tin instead of translucent as you will be looking for shade come summer and the wire section will allow the sun and rain in. Also put some perches under the wire section as pidgeons really love to have a bath in the rain. Lovin' you all and condolences Jason on the tide forgetting to roll in.

🎂Brooke, you look good in that tub!! Another project, look into bulk gas! With your acreage and all the mowing, you are going to need to keep a bunch of gas available!!! 😍. The Beep Beep is an older model ...before they started adding all the bells and whistles 😍
