Kiddo, way to go! keep making health and your real life your focus instead of trying to tell your body what it knows way better than you or anyone! love hearing shit like this. Let your growing, amazing body move and be fed, and always continue to enjoy it and rock on!
I was a visual merchandiser manager once and we are not allowed to pin/tape or do whatever to the clothes...we have to put the clothes on the mannequins just the way it is. But yes we do pick the smallest size clothes to put on the mannequins because all the mannequins wears size small or x-small; however, they're so damn heavy!!!
"Why don't they make mannequins that look like real people? And are shaped like real people. Y'know that have hips, and curves, and body parts. Yeah!" 'Merica!
I'm 14 and I agree with what she's saying. It gets me mad that since I have 'curves', 'hips', and 'thighs', I'm overweight. I get made fun of at school because I'm 170 lbs and not 90 lbs. A 'real' mannequin would be a good idea, to show people it's okay to not be a stick. But it's perfectly fine if you're skinny, unless you starve yourself to be that size. THAT'S what we're being taught by each other now. It's sick. Growing up in my high school, all you see is skinny girls. Ellen is my idol
Ellen .. with all the things that's happening here in EGYPT .. I THANK YOU you make me so happy and positive when i watch your videos every day :) LOVE U ♥
i agree, i hate when people say to skinny people "eat a burger" or when someone loses alot of weight because they have some lifestyle changes and other people are like "you lost alot of weight you look better before" It shouldn't matter how much they weigh or how they look. Having a healthy lifestyle is more important
So true about the pins learned that a few years ago when I wasnt great at coordinating outfits so i would cheat and buy off the mannequin until i noticed they alter the appearance
Amen. We need real mannequins. This is exactly what we need to push past societal standards of 'this is the way you should dress and look'. Hips and curves are in! They've always been 'IN'. Amen Ellen.
It's so funny, so much times anyone on youtbe says: Is she gay? And after that so many people react: Yes, and? or: Yes, any problems with that? It's so sweet and good that many peoples protect Ellen
I agree. Ellen is amazing! Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves. And, yes, size 0 can be unhealthy, but, so can a size 4..or a 12..or a 18. It all depends on your body type and how you take care of yourself. I, personally, wear a size 0. I'm 5'9, and have normal eating and exercising habits.. EVERYONE is beautiful! Size 0 doesn't have to be unhealthy.
I know, I've already broken my promise... D: But I've got maths to do, and I'm stuck here for 2 hours now!!! :O Oh Ellen, loving her and hating being so addicted... Gah I need to stop! O.o
I've actually seen that! They put real people to model by the windows and I kept staring, until one of them switched to a different modeling position. Totally freaked me out!! Then I saw them blink and I knew they were real people....I was like 7 years-old.
The only thing mannequins are good for is telling me what NOT to buy. Like Ellen was saying, if I see something that looks good on a mannequin I automatically know it's going to look like a disaster on me.
They actually used to do that, in some stores. My cousin did that when she lived in Mineral Wells. It was a small town back then, and there weren't many places to work, so they hired real people to stand still in the window. They'd have frequent breaks and switch back and forth in between the people often, but she hated it. She got bored pretty easily. We actually have a picture of her when she was working.
Ellen, I love you to pieces: you're an amazing person. Having watched this video, I was thinking that maybe you could begin a campaign on healthy body images, especially in young people. Healthy goes both ways: too big, too skinny, both are issues that need adressing, and I think you're the perfect person to do it.
Weird, Whenever I try on an outfit that I see a mannequin wearing it ends up looking great on me xD maybe because I'm skinny lol. But anyways Ellen, you look amazing in everything :D
I understand why you would think that. :) I come across those people online too. It was nice talking to you though and learning a bit about the other side of the U.S
Because "mannequin" shape is the beauty standard, the size that society thinks women should be. And because there's such a stigma of being "normal sized," there is a need for society to realize that women don't need to be skinny in order to be beautiful. I'm not saying that it's fine to ridicule women of mannequin shape. But I do agree that the current mindset of our society is that thin = good, round = bad. Therefore it's important to endorse the idea that all body shapes are beautiful.
There should be a maximum number of videos of ellen you can watch and after so many videos it'll say sorry but you've reached your maximum. I think I'd go mad but it'll be good for me. I once stayed up 'till 4am
I love her so much about the comment of thighs that touch! so refreshing to hear that instead of whiny 15 year old girls who want to starve them self for a stupid thigh gap.
i agree with ellen, there should be more sizes of mannequins. im skinny, but im not so skinny that i always fit in the clothes on them. and i think it is a loss for other ppl who are bigger than zeros too.
its not just mannequins though, even photos. when i walk into stores, i point at the photo and ask to try on that gorgeous outfit, then walk into the fitting room and look like a gremlin popping out of a potato sack. and im short, so everything is just way too long.lol
Hey i can totally relate to you..im pretty comfortable with my body size despite being really small..i have been called chicken legs and stuff when i wear skirts..not fun..:(
Actually Ellen there are mannequins that fit everyone's body type and size. I remember hearing about it on the news somewhere. The mannequins basically are trying it on for you so you don't have to and it'll make less of a mess for the workers to put away if you don't want the item. Which i think is a great idea
Ellen is amazing, I was bullied badly at school to the stage where the bully threatened to kill me and I was considering suicide. The one thing I struggle with is body image and my confidence and I am forever calling myself "fat" and skipping meals. Would love to see some proper human shaped mannequins and more people like Ellen telling young girls like me that you are beautiful whatever size but size 0 is unhealthy.
I'm also rather skinny, even when I was/am pregnant. But I do have the right curves in the right place :) It's all about proportion. Everybody's body type is different, but that doesn't mean it's automatically considered ugly. All that matters is that you feel good about yourself
Some stores (not many at all) actually have a variety of different shape and sizes for mannequins now. But I've only seen it once and it was a picture on Facebook so yeah...
I think Ellen has a great figure, btw. But, anyway, I'm glad you said what you said and I agree! (again! ha) good for your friend for working out! It's not about being a certain shape. It's about being healthy! Obese is not healthy. No matter how some people try to spin it. I think Ellen was referring to different shapes and some people like to spin it like she's defending obesity.
Just wanted to get this out here, but I am a size 0. It IS my natural body size, I don't work out all the time, I eat normally, and I am not "sick". It all depends on the person and the body. My metabolism is very very fast, which is why people just love to call me anorexic. Not saying anorexic people are bad, but saying I am one is a lie. I'm "too skinny" and some people are "too big". Can the world just shut up and agree that everyone is the way they are and they are beautiful?
bless you, bless your family, bless everyone in your country trying to preserve its history and simply do the right thing, regardless of waters, every country has their problems, but luckily, every country still has people in it who care, unfortunately they don't always find their way to political office as we would like, but, for civilians who still give a damn, and have morals, thats reason enough to say screw politics, i hope everything works out.
