As someone who has had a somewhat serious head injury, I feel this. I didn't get lit up nearly as hard as Mike, I was lucky. I wasn't riding during Mikes years so this was completely off my radar. I was watching an odyssey Q&A with him and could immediately tell from his fidgeting and speech that he cranked his head. Which led me here. I try to encourage all the kids at the park to wear helmets and get real with them when I tell them what happened to me. It does such because after healing, you still know how to do most of the things you could before mentally, but physically it is much harder. Can cause depression and all kinds of stuff that can be avoided with wearing a helmet. Just listen to Scotty and the way he talks about it. Look at how Crandall talks about helmets. Or look at Jimmy Levan, he was a monster. I know a lot of people will probably skim over this, but I had to say it. Getting your brain frazzled sucks. As nerdy as helmets are, they are essential. I re-live my life altering head injury all the time, sucks not being able to go back and make the right call.
I’m not gonna lie I was gonna keep scrolling Glad I didn’t and read what you had to say man, stay safe out there and thank you for your words of wisdom
this is why I bought the bike cos of his injury and then after mine (three weeks coma) now i have memory loss and epiliepsy but I went ouut on the bike to the shop toaday my accidnt was may 25 2014 never give up
Those dislikes better have been mistakes. Seriously, what kind of monster can put someone down that has been through so much. Blows my mind... -Love you Mike, stay strong.
I had brain surgery and left side paralysis myself it is truly a struggle mentally and physically to bounce back from something that catastrophic I watch this video in my hospital bed my heart goes out to him and his familyI’m super proud of him getting back on the bike best self again. I had to sell my bike to pay bills that might’ve been the hardest part of my whole journey back
really shows how easy it is. and c'mon you have to look up to him. the one person i want to meet. such an insperation. and how he just got back up on his feet, and riding straight away. even if its just hopping up a curb.. i dont think anyone else would be able to. think about the passion he has for the sport to do that. all i can say is, we need more people like mike. to carry the sport forward. more people to respect like him. he is what makes bmx :)
This definatly made me shed a tear or two. such a tragic injury but a amazing story of recovery and is brilliant to see footage of him riding around again.
Two Years After This All Happened I Still Remeber And Cant Believe This Happened. Knowing Mike Before And After This Happened Is Great. Just Know Him, He Is A Very Strong Person. To See Him Over Come This Takes A Really Big And Loving Heart.
I´ts amazing the way that he took over of his injuries and ride the bike again. I´m happy for him and I hope to wacht him in action very soon. Greets From Colombia
I had a really hard fall... I fractured a vertebrea in my back and skinned my elbow, palm, and hip to the bone... the doc said i was about 2mm away from dying.. im still recovering and thought i never wanted to ride again, untill i saw this video along with mikey riding again after 5 months rehab. it inspired me to keep going.. mike idk if you will ever read this but i truely hope you do. I just wanna say thank you and your my hero. you inspired me to start and now continue riding
I stared riding when i was 3 and started racing at 4 but then i quit at 9. i saw Mike Aitken While Hanging out with Mitzfah13(a few comments below)in a fit life video and he inspired me to start ridding. he has such an incredible style and he's so smooth. he can win a park contest with out going inverted like everyone else.... he's truly one of a kind and an amazing riding if not the best he's going to be in riders hearts everywhere forever i hope he stays strong and gets back on a bike
wow thats intense to watch. i had a similar accident last year and it changes your outlook on life, we're all human and we're all more fragile than we'd like too believe. i wish anyone else in the same position the best of luck. peace out.
Mikey i really hope that u can make it back on the bike. we have u in our prayers because ur one of the best riders in the world. i no u will get back to were u were in the sport -Grant Noble
unfortunate what happened to such a good rider, but in spite of everything good that is recovering and I think not only for me but to several well been our inspiration for you mikey
I think we must thank the doctors, nurses, paramedics, physios, surgeons. And I haven't seen anyone in the comments page mention this. Without them Mike would be completely screwed, I myself am thankful of the world we live which can bring people back to life, and he's riding just as good as he always did.
mike, you're a huge inspiration man. to my riding and just life in general. keep fighting strong and i definitely expect to see you back on top someday soon. (:
deam , i hope you are doing a lot better by now , i just watched your video and i will be praying for you , i always liked your style . bruno from brazil
i knocked 4 teeth out,15 stiches, broken nose, and a mild concussion from a tuck-no hander gone wrong.I was balling my eyes out because i though i knew i would go nowhere in bmx now. After watching this video i might try to start riding.Such an inspiration to the whole bmx community.
If you continue to ride without a helmet after watching this, something is wrong with you. Mike aitken is the best rider in the world. Thank God he is back on the bike
we are all so happy that he is healthy again, honestly i wouldnt have cared if he ever rode a bike again as long as he was healthy, but he is back on his bike so the bmx world is happy, as long as he stays healthy and his family approves im happy.
Just because you don't understand it, it doesn't mean that a higher being had to design it. The human body has evolved over billions of years. Don't even try to comprehend that number because you can't. The time it has taken has been unimaginably great.
see this is the thing that makes me happy i had to go with my friend im not going to say his name with him to the hospital and see mike it was sad and im happy he recovered
Seeing him in the bed was really hard to watch. Now that i have kids, its hard to imagine being a parent and seeing your son like that. No matter if hes 3 or 33. Its gotta be hard. Glad hes on a bike again.
Yes, I do. And I don't see how that would change anything that I've said. Just because he had a crazy accident and made a lucky recovery, it doesn't make him the governing body on the existence of the supernatural.
you know watching this vid with earphones on its kinda scary too much bassss!!!! but yeah i LOVE mike aitken i even bought his signature bike from FIT and i have his odyssey tires and they are AMAZING well what he did takes alot and im definitely wearing a helment when i go to my park well cheers ppl
es triste ver que alguien podia volar le cueste trabajo caminar ojala que se recupere y sus esponsor no se olviden de el acabo de comprar un frame fit s3 nuevo por eso conoci de mike aitken ojala se recupere al 100
