Hello Axier, I’m guessing you’re perhaps playing with a keyboard? That’s not a setup that I’m really familiar with; I don’t know whether there is an option available such as you’ve described, I think it’s fair to say that the sim is really designed to be flown with axis controls (so a simple gamepad, or better). I did have a quick look online for you but, couldn’t come up with anything helpful I’m afraid. Perhaps you might have more luck over on the MSFS forums? Sorry I can’t be of more help on that one. All the best! : )

This may sound sacrilegious but, nothing really beats steam gauges for me. Compared to the glass panel it is just so much easier to see readouts on the steam gauges. I like how the Turbine temp gauge is a hybrid digital/analog gauge. I kind of think steam gauges should be for airspeed, altitude, and engine monitoring, and the navigation being on the glass. (Gyro instruments are really on their way out, and eliminating the vacuum system is a positive in this mechanic's mind). As to this model....really nice. The STock TBM is one of my go tos, but I could see this black square over riding that. Beautiful scenery as well. Nicely done review and video as usual ITBS.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 11 месяцев назад
Haha, I think many simmers would agree with you Pythos and Black Square must concur, as their addons seem to be selling like hot cakes ; ) In the real-world, if I was in busy airspace or poor weather, I’d take a glass screen any day of the week but, under more leisurely circumstances and certainly in the sim, I much prefer steam gauges as they just have so much more character and somehow offer a more “visceral” flying experience. I’m glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for your thoughts once again : )

@@IntotheBlueSimulations If I had a choice, I'd definitely choose a glass cockpit IRL too. But in flights sims I find that glass avionics tend to be tedious to interact with, and harder to read (screen inside a screen, small text, no big needle to reference at a glance, easy to misclick controls). The amount of glass cockpits in default aircraft is easily one of my biggest gripes with FS 2020 XD

I feel like this cockpit it the perfect balance of steam and glass. Not stone age primitive but space age either. A really nice balance, and very easy to work with in VR which a lot of the pure steam gauges are not.

@IntotheBlueSimulations

Hello again Gillik, Yes, it’s the same for me. Unfortunately, the recorder doesn’t work flawlessly with all 3rd party addons; you basically have to configure the aircraft as you want it for that particular shot (flaps, engines running, spoilers armed etc) and then replay the recorded track. That’s what I’ve been doing at any rate. I hope that clarifies things. Cheers : )

And still there's snow on the ground in the New Zealand summer...... 3 years and this ain't yet ixed... Anyway, another great video. Definitely a quality product. But in FSE terms, the 850 is considerably less-capable than the default 930. 1 less pax plus the flat-rated engine so less performance.

Well on this particular occasion, you’ll have to blame me for that one Bullet, as I actually made a custom weather preset for the scenario haha. I find this AP unintuitive. Like engaging Alt Cap and VS causes Alt to green up on the MCP... which is what it also does if you just hit Alt to maintain current Altitude. So on a side note, is there any reason why TBM wouldnt just have the inertial separator on for every taxi and take off no matter the location? Seems that protecting the engine would a good procedure.
@ScottMonier
@ScottMonier Год назад
Good question, there are a few reasons why the TBM doesn't just have the inertial separator on for every taxi and takeoff: Namely, fuel economy: The inertial separator uses some fuel to operate, so it's more fuel-efficient to only have it on when it's needed. Also, wear and tear: The inertial separator is a mechanical device, so it wears and tears more when it's running. Again, noise: The inertial separator can make a bit of noise, so it's more pleasant for the passengers and crew to have it off when it's not needed. In general, the risk of foreign object damage (FOD) to the engine is highest during taxi and takeoff, and during descent and landing. This is because the aircraft is moving slowly and close to the ground, where there is more debris and other objects that could be ingested into the engine. However, the risk of FOD is also affected by the environment in which the aircraft is operating. For example, if the aircraft is operating at a remote airport with a gravel runway, the risk of FOD is higher than if it is operating at a major airport with a paved runway. For this reason, the TBM Pilot Operating Handbook (POH) does recommend that the inertial separator be turned on for taxi and takeoff, and again during descent and landing. However, the POH also allows the pilot to use their judgment and turn the inertial separator off if they believe that the risk of FOD is low.
@NthgToFear

I was curious about this, myself.
@captaincasual7239

I've seen a couple TBM pilots discussing this elsewhere, and for one of them, it was indeed a company-mandated procedure to have the inertial separator on during any and all ground operations.

Bought it yesterday and did few flights already. I fully agree with the mostly positive feedback I can read all around. For me it is not making the situation easy, cause I fly with FSEconomy, and there the highest pay is from the VIP jobs with 7-8 pax on range 1000-1500nm. The best plane for this is the PC-12. I have the one from Carenado, but it's really not a good model, so I've been flying default TBM 930 while waiting for the PC-12 from SWS. So I was afraid, that I'll be struggling with selection, like "PC-12 flight will make more money, but I'd rather fly TMB850 cause it's more fun and joy to fly.". The issue resolved itself quite quickly, because the TMB-850 is (on top of all the positives) extremely well optimized!!! I can fly it at my locked 40fps on ultra settings even in high density areas, where the default TBM-930 was getting 30ish, and poorly optimized Carenado PC-12 was dropping bellow 20, making landings a private hell experience :-D ... so it's set - I'll use the SWS PC-12 (once it's out) for long VIP hauls, mixing it with TBM for short to medium hops in high population density areas with fewer pax (so less FSE income), but just for the pure enjoyment of the city and large airports scenery ;-)

It really doesn't get much better! That is the keyword. And it applies to both the Black Square TBM 850 add-on and his reviews. A beautiful flight. And to make it perfect, one that starts in Milford Sound, New Zealand. One of my favorite airports of the (virtual) world. The TBM 850 with analog old school cockpit is - as you can see in this video - certainly one of the most interesting European general aviation aircraft. Produced in France, the TBM 850 is a single-engine, high-performance turboprop aircraft, a further development of the successful TBM 700 with a pressurized cabin and retractable landing gear. Beginning with the 2008 model, the TBM 850 has been equipped with the Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck as standard equipment. With Black Square's TBM 850, you get one of the most technically advanced aircraft simulations for Microsoft Flight Simulator with nearly 100 possible failures, including new turbine engine failures, hot-swappable radio configurations, and the most advanced pressure and cabin temperature simulations in MSFS. I am very excited to see his review of the announced TFDi Design MD-11. From what I know of him, there will be such a review. The MD-11. The last Trijet. Who can resist such an add-on?

Apparently, to fall within a certain category, the TBM needs to stall below a certain speed (I think it was 61kts, from memory). To achieve this, the manufacture had to give the aircraft pretty sizeable flaps, which take up most of the wing and as such, the 850 only has quite tiny ailerons haha. To combat the resulting lack of roll control, roll spoilers have been fitted also : )

we all agree that the comanche is the best piston in the sim so far... is this the best turboprop in the sim so far or are the Kodi and Milviz Porter still serious contenders for that?
@captaincasual7239
@captaincasual7239 Год назад
Having just had my second flight in it, i'll just put this right here. This thing is in an entirely different league than those two. The Blackbird porter was a cool machine when it came out, but by now it's a bit obsolete for something of this price range. I know the Kodiak has some people who just will not let go of how great it is that the cupholders work, but personally, i hate flying that thing. I don't know if the flight model is realistic or not, but i've always felt that the SWS Kodiak is really unpleasant to fly. The TBM 850 here, meanwhile, is nice to fly, has more systems depth than either of the other two, interesting custom avionics like the ETM and the RNAV computer, and an excellent failure system to top it all off. Oh, and it's also just a more flexible aircraft, being able to go low and slow *and* high and (relatively) fast. So TL:DR, no, those two aren't contenders, anymore. I don't think the upcoming SWS PC-12 will be either to be honest, considering it won't have anything like failures on launch. Maybe in the future, but yeah. The Piper M-500 from FSReborn might be serious competition though, if glass cockpits are your thing. There's also the *other* upcoming Black square machines, the turbine and piston Dukes, which i'm now even more excited for than before. :p

Absolutely the Kodiak is still the best. I love the TBM, but if I had to choose between the two, I would always recommend the Kodiak. Those who think the Kodiak is difficult to fly or hard to handle don’t understand the flight model is accurate and trim settings are vital for take off and hand flying.

@@captaincasual7239the Kodiak unpleasant to fly? Certainly not my experience.
@captaincasual7239
@captaincasual7239 Год назад
@@WhiteHawk77 Well, it's personal preference of course, but compare her to this TBM. The Kodiak may well be accurate in how she flies, but well, so is the A2A Comanche, which is docile and nice. And this new TBM, which is quite stable once trimmed to counter the torque. If the SWS Kodiak's flight model is indeed authentic, then that just means that the real Kodiak 100 is a bit of a pig to handfly. ..... and if my choice is between two realistic aircraft, one of which is a pleasure to handfly and the other demands pitch adjustments every 2.3 femtoseconds because she's twitchy and unstable, then i'll go for the former. And before you say i'm shying away from a challenge, keep in mind that the TBM can throw all sorts of random failures at you, so there's that. ;)

Cheers Ceejay, I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! I’m afraid, I can’t help too much on that one, not being all that familiar with the TBM and indeed, turboprops more generally. So far as I can tell, ITT and Ng are limiting, but the engine will quite happily chug along all day at 121% on the torque. I don’t believe the engine is being “over-torqued” per se, as the 100% datum seems to come from takeoff power, which for some reason is flat-rated below what the engine can actually achieve. Quite unusual, at least in my experience, but there you go. If you have come across any further info in the mean time, I’d certainly be interested to hear it : ) Cheers again, all the best!
@HELERsx
@HELERsx 11 месяцев назад
@@IntotheBlueSimulations Thank you for trying to help, I appreciate your reply. Indeed I spoke to a real TBM-Pilot about this :D He said ITT is indeed the limiting factor in the PT6-Engines. Overheating the engine causes structural damage to the engine internals. According to his information the torque is secondary and almost only affects the gearbox. But its durable enough for over 100% torque even for a longer duration. You should keep an eye on the gas turbine RPM but your ITT will destroy your PT6 almost evertime before overstressing the NG. So to answer my own question again: yes, ITT is the primary or first limiting factor in the PT6 turboprop. Over 100% torque isnt really a problem for the engine nor for the gearbox

I suppose, the best “compromise” would be for the dev to offer a cheaper base model and then provide paid upgrades thereafter (as we’ve seen from the likes of FSLabs etc), although some devs tend to “take advantage” of that pricing structure. . . I’ll offer up the idea if it ever comes up though. Cheers again! : )

Hello Bob, Good spot haha! That was just a bit of a continuity error (there’s nothing wrong with the addon). I recorded the “walkaround”, after I recorded the rest of the flight (and forgot to put the flaps down again - ooops). I hope that clarifies things. All the best! : )

awesome review!!, any recommendation on curve sensitivities??
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 9 месяцев назад
Thanks very much Fernando, I’m really glad you enjoyed it! My joystick sensitivity settings are just left at “default” values (from memory, even by default, MSFS still introduces some sort of sensitivity curve). I do have a -50 curve on my rudder sensitivity, as I still find the rudder response to be way overly sensitive in MSFS. I hope that helps a little. All the best : )

Nice video. I think the torque thing has to do with only 700shp being available for TO/L and the 850shp being achievable once the flaps are retracted and the throttle is increased in the climb? Could be wrong. I think the flaps selector is what limits the throttle position in the real aircraft. Of course with linear throttles, like we have in sim gear, couldn’t simulate that detent.
@IntotheBlueSimulations
@IntotheBlueSimulations 11 месяцев назад
Thanks Austin, my pleasure! I’m glad you enjoyed it. You’re definitely correct re the torque limiter. It seems that 100% is the rated power for the takeoff and then 121% is allowable thereafter; I’m not sure I’ve ever come across an aircraft before, where you have more power available during the climb, than you do during the takeoff haha. Thanks for the info! Much appreciated and all the best : )

@IntotheBlueSimulations 7 месяцев назад
Hi Rymd, The TBM 850, isn’t like other Black Sqaure addons; other than the sounds (which should be updated at some point in the future), the aircraft has been built from the ground up - including the flight model. The 850 definitely flies better than the 930; at the time of recording, the addon still felt a little “default” in terms of the flight modelling however, the product received a major overhaul after release, with supposed significant flight model improvements included (I’m afraid I haven’t had the chance to test that out though). Of the single-engine turboprops available in MSFS, the TBM 850 is my favourite. I hope that helps a little? All the best : )

Well, the whole line of TBM aircraft is about modernization and pricing, nothing against black square media but these hi price tag aircraft Should be better equipped now as a pilot myself (SELI) I haven’t had the honor to actually fly one? They just seem so plain and yes, you need to learn all the vacuum gyro systems but nowadays all the analog equipment should be back up because this is a very complex plane, even though it’s the smallest of the line In comparison to the 960 So I could be my ignorance do they even make the 850 anymore? I’m sure you can probably order one, but why with The 960 being so modern single pilot aircraft The industry. I don’t know I grew up with these gauges, Necessary, but (boring)I guess is why I prefer the MFD displays and flight management systems to ease the pressure on the pilot of managing all the systems, it’s like going back to AOL and dial up internet 🛜 lol So it’s just a preference and black squares very retro in their aircraft and yes, it’s just a simulator. Anyway another great plane, and As usual Captain, Ted great informative video with your cockpit management, flight training experience. Thanks again I particularly like when you’re coming up the taxiway by the hedges call most like a garage or a private driveway.

@IntotheBlueSimulations 11 месяцев назад
Thanks very much for your thoughts, Phill. I think everyone has their preferences when it comes to steam gauges / glass cockpits. Personally, I’d take a glass cockpit for a challenging real-world flight, any day of the week haha, but otherwise, I think steam gauges lend an aircraft a lot more character, make for a more “honest” flying experience and are certainly my preference within the sim. It seems that a lot of other simmers enjoy steam gauges also and Black Square are clearly capitalising on this fact (also, there are plenty of aircraft with glass cockpits already available within the sim, though granted, these tend to be lower fidelity options). The soon-to-be-released FSReborn M500, should offer up a great option for those who prefer their digital avionics : ) I’m really glad you enjoyed the video once again. Many thanks, as always!

OK I think I found out. It turns off a torque limiter so that 121% trq is available instead of 100%. I don't know why it wasn't demonstrated in the video.

@IntotheBlueSimulations 11 месяцев назад
Hello Rob, Apologies for the slow reply, it seems you beat me to it haha. You are indeed correct. I didn’t demonstrate the system in the video, as I wasn’t sure at the time, under which circumstances the pilot ought to be using it (it seemed counterintuitive to me, that one would want to “over-torque” the engine during the climb / cruise, unless it was absolutely necessary but, it seems that’s actually ops normal). I hope that clarifies things a little. All the best!

Hello Marcus, Thanks very much; my pleasure and I’m really glad you enjoyed the video! I do occasionally use wider shots etc but, I prefer close-in footage as 1) I feel it gives the aircraft more “presence” in the clip and 2) it allows the viewer to see far more detail (oleo compression, prop animation etc) and therefore get a better feel for the addon. I will bear your request in mind though and never say never haha : ) Cheers, all the best!

Thanks very much Ian, I’m really glad you enjoyed the flight! I love VR haha! I’m somewhat on the hunt for a new headset actually, but have spent many hours with my Samsung Odyssey over the years. There’s no more immersive option for simming than VR but, personally I find content recorded in VR, doesn’t make for the best of viewing experiences, so I stick to 2D and TrackIR in my videos. As I don’t really get any time to sim these days, outside of when I am recording, I spend the vast majority of my time in 2D (I did actually get VR set up for a guest the other day and I had forgotten just how great it is haha!). I take it you’re a big VR fan then? Cheers, all the best : )

Hi Dave, I’m afraid I don’t know the exact date. Typically, Just Flight uses the PC release to iron out any major bugs with an addon and then brings the aircraft to the Marketplace thereafter. The Marketplace process is entirely in Asobo’s hands though and I find from experience, it usually takes around 1-2 months. I hope that helps a little. All the best : )
