I've wanted to join a derby league for a year now, and this video jut renewed that love and interest for me. I cant wait to talk to my local rollergirls. Hopefully I can try out soon! I love everything about this video.
Of course there is men's roller derby, but it started out as a women's thing, and out of that came out junior derby and men's as well. When people think of derby they think of women. And of course it's a sport what the hell?
It's so refreshing to see a derby video that isn't all 'hitting people! violence! fishnets! blood! Fierce names!'. I love my sport, and this video captures the reasons why. Not that I don't love the hitting people, violence, fishnets and derby names (but not blood, I don't like seeing that), but there's just so much more to it than what's usually seen in derby docos. So thanks. This was awesome to watch. - Holly War
Im in Roller Derby. And its so much fun. I love it. And it helps when u used to be in Hockey. So now u can use ur skates for helping u to skate. But anyway its so much fun. I love it. Join Roller Derby.
Thanks for all the wonderful responses. It was a pleasure to film roller derby, and I hope that one day I can do it again. Such an amazing high energy fun enviroment to be in. And thank you to all who share this video with newcomers and derby lovers.
this is really high quality work. Finally, a "derby is" video I'm not embarrassed to show to potential recruits (our name for fresh meat). Thank you... really.
It may be because you have a song on your video that RU-vid see's to be in breach of copyright. You should see some notifications when you look at your video via video manager. Love the video btw!
Support, Love, Humor, Power--all while getting to dress like a skank! & wow--there's intense pain/injury involved here--also taken in stride. Watching this makes me happy. Go Derby!
I would love to do derby but I'm pretty sure I'll be bad at the contact stuff. How old we're most of you when you started? I'm 25 and want to get into something new.
Laura M u can start at any age, really! one of my coaches started at 41 and i started at 15, it never is too early or late! also, i was bad at the contact stuff first, always apologizing and stuff, but you get used to it really fast! seriously, its an awesome way to get in shape (i started to like training because of derby, like, i had never played any sport outside of pe classes before) and to meet new friends, you should google your town's derby team and join as soon as u have to money for the gear!!!
My girlfriend really wants to do it! Any teams in Wilmington (NC)? I think she's nuts, but I would never disuade her from doing anything in life - ever. Go for it, sweetie!
Hey can we show this on our facebook group - DubaiRollerDerby? It's such a great video and we want to tell the Middle East what they need to prepare for... a REVOLUTION!
(i have no idea about the first one but) ok its about the jammers (starhelmets) they have to scate threw the pack (nothing on helmet) with (roller scates not blades big diff) and every person they pass they get a point ( pass 4 people 4 ponts) but they have to get around and threw the pack again who ever gets threw the pack first gets the points the team with the most points wins.is it obnily for girls? (im going tp get another commet because im running out of characters
ok now the blockers (stripe on the helmet) yes the girls (and guys) could make ponts buy passing the blockers. now its it onily for girls no (as i was tell you earler) (and guys) ther is a team for sun city roller derby (dead bolts) if you notice in the pic ther might be a girl shes only there for the ref. hope i helped you
I blame this clip for getting me into a Deadmau5 track for the first time ever! Seriously though, the "Derby Wife" with the lip bar and yellow bandana is, from this heterosexual male's point of view, close to perfection....such a beautiful woman.
Okay first off we don't dress like skanks were badass hard working ladies who work our asses off every Saturday every week getting knocked down scratches bruises sour muscles running every day to stay in shape we dress badass cause we're fucking bad asses the valley vixens a junior team and the adult Denali destroyer dolls rock
@@sleepybtchx you do not have to dress like a "skank" (not a word we use in Britain but I get it) but it is true to say some skaters do, not so much now as there has been a move away from boutfits fishnets, hot pants and funky tights but plenty of skaters did and still do choose to embrace the novelty side of derby I understand why there has been the move away from the entrainment side of the game and I think we will see even more as it makes people think it is not a real sport but I for one and I am not the only one loved the fun fishnet and hot pants side of derby it was part of the attraction along with the derby names and music skate outs just as much as the physical challenge of the sport its self was! These things are what attracted me to derby, derby is a cool unique, demanding, fulfilling and liberating sport were skaters sometimes wear hot pants, fishnets and funky tights but does not mean they are any less badass part of derby is acceptance and none judgement who cares about some hot pants let's just have fun! #derbylove.
I play derby and proudly use it as an excuse to dress like a skank. It feels empowering for me when I used to dress that way for the male gaze. To each their own and long live derby!!!
No I'm not a Lesbain and I'm gonna be joining the valley vixens junior roller derby squad even some men do it and are team is the Denali destroyer dolls look us up
+John Doe Not sure what you're talking about because roller derby is absolutely a real sport! It's very new compared to other sports such as soccer or football, but it is indeed a real sport! It was created originally in the early to mid 30's. Of course there was some fake fights and such in it earlier on, just as many sports have done, but now a days it's a completely legit sport! The WFTDA(Woman's Flat Track Derby Association) exists, so that's quite a big part of showing that this is a real sport. Saying it's a fake sport and that it isn't real is quite an insult to the ladies who put their blood, sweat, and tears into doing something they love. And I know you probably don't care that it's an insult because your an ignorant homophobic misogynist, but that's how it is. Take care and have a wonderful day!
+Strawberry Cream Roller derby is an extremely inclusive sport! Anyone of any shape, size, gender identity, sex, religion, or whatever are welcome! Keep playing! I don't play yet, but their might be a junior legue coming to my area soon so I'll definitely be joining that!
