Whoa! Your thread cutters always start with threads that look odd. It’s because they have to start smooth to cut into a drilled hole. You are entertaining and courageous! Love it!

That’s why I made a point to explain myself in the video. I knew manipulating the tap would raise red flags with some. I appreciate your nice comment & for watching the videos.

I have a couple of ramblers myself. I am an amateur, we always learn by experience and watching others. Thanks for being open and even vulnerable, it’s risky in the internet! That’s why I admire you!

I have too give you PROPS for working your ass off on this car all by yourself, you never gave up on it even though most of us thought the Trans was TOAST. It's hard doing it all by yourself with nobody too help you, I've done that working on vehicles most of my life, it's easy too give up that way but we do have the internet now which helps tremendously. I hope the Trans. does work for you, you do deserve that with all your hard work & the mess of it all. I probably would have pulled that Trans. & looked for another one or maybe had that one rebuilt ? Looking forward of a successful test drive in next vid. CONGRATULATIONS on at least getting the wheels to spin. Henry from N.E. PA.

Thank you. I really do appreciate the kind words. They mean something. This transmission still needs to prove itself out on the road. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens as well. Part of the pain I put myself through is due to being a 95% purist.

I get it. I’m thinking a 10 miles test drive drain it. See what it looks like. Thankfully the pan has a drain plug. Maybe even drop the pan to make sure the screens are clean.

Big congrats for restoring your Flash-o-Matic. I've always felt a connection to Rambler because our old family photos would have not one but two 1950 Nash Airflytes in them (sorta the distant cousin to the Rambler). Want to see you driving the '62 before too long.

So glad that you have had what so far looks like a good result! Between the 56 Chevy and this car your thread tools are getting a work out! To Do list item 1. is Go thank your kid for being patient (and a cook!) by cooking her a brilliant meal. 1A is spread some oil dry. I have the rest of the todo list in a doc if you want it. If it could be of help, drop an email. But, to give you a preview, Item 2 is. Adult beverage and 2A. is spread some oil dry .... so after item 3, can you guess what item 3A will be?

Freeman the buttons are not suppose to work with the bar in park...out of park then foot on brake then all the buttons pushed. Brake held so that you can push reverse than forward gears without drive train working. Really enjoy your channel.

First. congrats on this landmark while still having your patience somewhat intact. Second, The Never Ending Story is still one of my all-time favorite movies. Third, in the 70's there was a porta potty company in the Detroit area called Johnny on the Spot (oddly appropriate name). I assume it's not related to the HVAC company on your t shirt.

Thanks for the congrats. That’s funny, I think that name could fit a lot of different types of companies.

First of all Freeman, whenever you change buttons, step on the brake and stop the wheel from turning.

For whatever it's (not) worth, my '67 Ambassador with an M-11 trans spins the wheels just a bit when in Neutral. ...Not enough to be any real torque. I attribute it to a bit of drag through clutches and bands even though it should be in Neutral but don't really know. That trans works really great and we've used it for many thousand miles. Also, by '67 the directions were to check the fluid with the engine running in Neutral.. Yours, of course, may be different. Good luck.
@freemansgarage

Thank you for telling me that. It is useful. The manual I’ve been following says model 35 transmission on the cover. Not sure if it’s suppose to be for M35 or T35 or both. I’m not sure what the difference would be if any for checking fluid level. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Sorry but I cannot continue watching until I have corrected you. There is nothing wrong with that tap, it is not stripped out at the beginning. That is what is called a intermediate tap. It has a tapered thread. There are three types of taps: Starting, intermediate and bottoming taps.

What is your ultimate goal with that Rambler? It doesn't look like it would be cost effective to restore it to drivable condition. Don't get me wrong, I love it but it seems too far gone.
@oldschoolcars3318
@oldschoolcars3318 3 месяца назад
It seems you may not be getting the vibe here??? ...which is cool... its why we are all here.... to learn new things. So, there was a time in the US of A when folks did not abandon something simply because it was ugly or old or worn or because doing so was cost effective. In those times cash was scarce and folks would do anything to revive those things they had already invested in so that they could continue to use them. Think of the expression "necessity is the mother of invention". If necessity is the mother then the father of invention is the product of knowledge and effort. The exercise here is to gain and use knowledge and apply effort in a time of need to overcome a technical problem so that something can be useful again. Learning new things and then applying a degree and level of effort that is not "cost effective" are the core skills in obtaining self sufficiency in life. When you drive a 60 year old beater in town 1 out of a hundred people will really understand the significance of that act and only another 1 out of the remaining 99 will have the curiosity to ask about not just the car but the learning journey that comes with reviving and keeping something so old. Cars like this are neither pretty, nor cost effective but they loudly state that there are other values to not only think about but to begin living so that you are prepared for anything. Along the way, mis steps and swearing will abound and fluid and blood will be spilled but the learning produces a confidence in one's self sufficiency for which no cost effective metric can exist.
@NoWr2Run

Isn't it in drivable condition now if the Trans. actually works ?
@oldschoolcars3318
@oldschoolcars3318 3 месяца назад
@NoWr2Run yes and no. This car has an enclosed drives haft in a torque tube that connects diff to transmission through a rubber mount called a trunion. Diff, u joint, and trunion are untested. Wipers lights horn signals as yet not tested on video.
@freemansgarage
@freemansgarage 2 месяца назад
I understand. The ultimate goal with this Rambler is for it to be a daily driver. I'd like to be able to turn the key on a whim & scoot from point a to point b. Just a regular vehicle like it once was. Not perfect, but usable.
@freemansgarage
@freemansgarage 2 месяца назад
Technically. Needs some more testing.
