The 100ml liquid rule on flights was only supposed to be a temporary security measure put in place 18 years ago, but still exists.
Travel Expert Simon Calder explains the installation of state of the art scanners at seven UK airports should have removed the restriction on how much liquid can be carried and the need to use clear sealed bags at security.
However, these expensive machines have been fount to be not working as they should, causing chaos at airports, which has prompted the government to reintroduce the restrictions again, even in the airports where the scanners seem to be working correctly. Simon says: "I've worked out what is happening and it's all a complete mess."
Mike Graham thinks the issue isn't going to go away anytime soon. He says: "I fear we may have to explore this further before we get in to the absolute hot hell of the summer getaway."

You can do most things but you will need a permit license or to pay a fee. Almost everything is illegal and anyone can be fined or harassed at any time, it is one step from tyranny.

Don't get the 100ml rule. What difference does that make? - if you've got 99ml of nitric acid you can still do a lot of damage!

Boris said a lot of things. Like There will be no border in the Irish Sea, despite the deal stating there would be a border in the Irish Sea

We should put Johnson down in the sea & trawl him back & forth along the border!😂

Didn't anyone bother to check the new machines were working properly before they were rolled out for use by real passengers?

They let you bring only 100 ml of liquid through security …but , allow you to buy as much flammable brandy ,whiskey etc in duty free to bring into the aircraft cabin …. How does that make sense

They want you to check your bags so they can steal from you in private.

The scanners aren’t working! I know someone who recently took 400ml of fluids through security accidentally, in their hand luggage

If I was a suspicious person you might suspect that by dragging their feet on relaxing the 100ml rule they would lose money on selling overpriced bottles of drink in the airport shops.

If you buy anything in an airport you are daft. Bring an empty bottle and fill.up from the water fountains. Last year spent 6+ hours in Gatwick and purchased nothing, then about the same in Madrid and bought nothing. If you buy anything in an airport then you are part of the problem of the pricing.

International continuity, please... especially on connecting flights. Paying for a small bottle of water in, let's say, Charles de Gaul, and then having to go through all of security AGAIN, on a connecting flight!!! How much plastic, water, being thrown away. Connectors should be allowed to flow through. We have already been assessed, what on earth do you think we have achieved from flight to flight?!? Asthma inhalers? Gels? Lip balms? Lip sticks... As I once, annoyingly, commented, when a bottle of pure coconut solid oil was thrown away, ''IF I heated my jacket it would melt, are you going to throw that away too?!? Ridiculous.

Yup. After a bag check at Heathrow, my bottle of Pepsi was pulled out and the Security official reminded me "No liquids over 100ml!" When I pointed out I bought it at LAX many hours before and it had flown across the US and the Atlantic, they weren't amused

And it contributes to landfill. You go out but the eu airports coming back don’t have them.

Having worked in airport security you should be aware that if you can’t clear a bag in less than 5 seconds it gets rejected automatically. There are companies that are employed to run test pieces through the X-ray every day. If you miss one you have to be retrained and are subject to disciplinary procedures. You are only allowed to screen for 20 minutes in any hour. Would you rather genuine IEDs were getting through?

When we came back from Croatia last summer we had to go therough an automated, "AI" passport control at East Midlands airport. It took about 2 minutes to get each person through, whereas a man in a booth could look at a passport in about 3 seconds. The result was a queue of about an hour and a half, which would have been no more than 10 minutes with a human being doing the job. This is because AI doesn't really exist, and computers are always slower than people.
