ST2130 is an amazing little movement for a great price point. Compared to the price for the ETA or even the Sellita SW200 it's about the best bang for the buck in 28k automatic movements today.
What a beautiful movement! It doesn't come stock with the blued rotor screw. That addition of the blued screw makes all the difference in that fantastic combo of color!
god, that $232.17 Bauhaus design one is stunning, i tend to dislike watches with date complication but this looks so nice. hopefully theres a big discount on it on the upcoming sale
Nice little watch. I would look great in silver with the rose gold or copper couloured details on the dial. I do own a watch with a Sea-Gull ST2130 movement and it keeps time just as well as any Sellita SW 200 does.
That's great to know Alex, because I've been staying away from the movement as I'm unsure of performance. Hopefully that good performance is sustained long term. Be well my friend 👍
Beautiful dress watch with a great movement at a great price. Finally a Sea-Gull worth considering but in silver not the faux gold. Another excellent video Gary. 👍👍⌚😎
I've had a bad experience with two PT5000's (winding was stiffer than a British upper lip), issues with both the SW and an ETA as well, but surprisingly no issues with my ST19's or my NH35 powered watches.
Good to know. It's good to hear a users experience of the Seagulls, makes me more confident about buying a watch with this movement, and of course all the Seiko movements are very reliable.
Stiff winding is a design feature in ETA and SW automatic movements, I think. The first one that I got I was concerned especially since I am old enough to remember handwinding most watches and resistance meant stop before you break it (which, of course, is still true on hand-wind only watches). Some people seem to think it is a sign of quality and like it.
Among 36 watches collection , with nh, etas, sw, myotas 9s, pt…..Already 2 years I have 2 chronos with the manual st1901 movement, both running within +2/+3 spd whatever the position. Flat lines…Quite surprising but it’s reality. Lucky? Don’t think twice. Seagull is an (big)old established brand
It would be good if you tested the winding of the crown given that you have been very positive about the movement. My experience with this movement is that it keeps good time but there is such a lack of lubrication that when you wind the movement it also spins the rotar at the same time. So there can be QC issues with Seagull.
My Heimdallr mm300 with the st2130 has a properly borked date complication. If I advance the time 24hrs the date change will occur 1hr earlier than it's last change. I hardly wore the watch and did avoid using the quick change during the evil hours. I did buy another st2130 to swap it out as I do like the watch and they are affordable movements. In the meantime the watch is still quite accurate!
I picked up a Vakuy Rigas homage to the Longines Master. It only cost £79 including taxes in the last sale. It has the ST2130 in it and it's pretty dam epic and it's not a diver! 😮
I'm thinking of replacing an eta 2824 that's not running right. The Seagull is a lot less costly especially if I want a new movement. The major Chinese market website has a number of sellers and I found one for around $40 with a $3 off coupon. So tempting.
Well, this one was quite a surprise! I initially had the same thought as you - hate gold plated cheap watches - but those macros and, especially, those strap changes really enhanced the watch which is surprisingly good. Good job!
Great macros! New lens? Good value watch. Would be interesting if you did a video of the top 5 or 10 watches that you like the best. Maybe a list of which ones you wear most often too.
I would be interesting to hear from anyone who has used one of these movements long term to see how they last. ETAs basically last forever but are much more expensive.
I have a Feice FM221PRO with this movement and the accuracy is amazing. If the back of the watch did not have a display glass and the second hand sweep wasn’t so smooth I would think it’s a quartz.
I really liked it on the blue strap. I am with you. I likely would not buy that in gold but seeing it on the different straps might have changed my mind
I was a bit "Meh" about this one until the shot of it on the wrist. Suddenly it looked a lot more attractive (the watch - not your wrist, Gary). I'd be tempted.
I prefer steel colored watches, but because of this one in goldtone, makes it a real strapmonster....no matter what color of strap you putted on it was always goodlooking.
Hey Gary! Would you consider doing a comparison between this movement and the pt5000? They’re both clones of the Eta movement so it’d be great to hear your thoughts on those!
Tne patents on the Eta movements have expired so no rules have been broken. The Sea-gull Ocean star has this movement. Sapphire chrystal solid solid end links and bracelet and milled clasp. £248 on Aliexpress at the moment.
And just that fast this movement is spreading, just got an alert from Ali's that Berny is now offering a 38 mm piece with the same movement for $141.25. Interesting dial on it as well.
Hello watch experts, maybe one of you has the time to give me some advice: Three bad watches but offered with a big discount, I know they are cheaply made, but the deals are cheap too, is any of them a good deal at that price or are they still a waste of money? Boccia Royce 3590-01 - titanium case, sapphire crystal - € 40 Frederic Graff Makalu FBV-2520 - € 24 Frederic Graff Silver Monch FBC-B004S - sapphire crystal - € 45 Thanks for your advice!
Yes, it's brilliant. I built a watch with an st2130 and the move to 28800 bph from 21600 makes it so much smoother. It's bang on accurate too, losing less than 2s a day. Only cost £70 too.
Hi Gary do you still have that other seagull wtach you made a video on? it was the it sea-gull d819.437. It had copper coloured bauhaus indicies! they don't sell it anymore...
I used this movement for a lot of selfbuild watches. It's a great movement and never had a problem wiith them. I was planning to service one in a couple of weeks. Looking forward in how everything fits together in comparrison of an ETA 2824..
Which would you prefer this St movement or the PT5000, I’ve just brought a Escapement Time Longines Heritage mode with a PT5000 for £146. I’ve owned a BB 58 San Martin with a PT which run +5 per day which was still working ok 15 months later.
I want to like Sea-gull, but then I check their store and a lot of the info is wrong, missing, misleading, and the pictures are misleading and terrible, or terribly generic; their super generic-stiff way of replying to comments is weird; they've got double listings, offen redundantly priced 'offers', on top of unhelpful and incomplete product categories: I just can't with their mess sometimes.
Too bad you can’t handwind it. On their top tier dress watches SeaGull tends to use another movement - st1812, not enough info about that one.. other than being a clone of eta 2892.
@@wafarris st2130 is a clone of eta 2824. The eta movement is not safe to handwind (design flaw), so I suppose the clone is not safe to either. There are reports of another clone, PT5000, having worn out in as short as 6 months.
