This is one of my favorite solos of all time. Elliot Easton just nailed it!! Total feel, with a lyrical quality. He is sooo underrated. Thanks for doing this. Love it!!
Thanks for this... It's always been one of my favorite Cars songs, from the first time I heard it in 1979. Such a deep, punchy sound on that record, in a way I had never heard anywhere before.
Fantastic! It says "demo" because these were the songs that were first cut, and in heavy rotation on Boston radio stations. It was before Roy Thomas Baker produced and added the commercial elements to the songs, layered vocals, etc. Ben's vocals are stellar as usual.
Hell ya ! Think about it.. in the 40 kids toys were made of wood. In the 50s they were made of medal.. in the 60s it was all about rubber toys... but the 70s? .. That's when they perfected plastic :-O Steve Austin a man barely alive.. we can rebuild him.
It's a good workout with a lot of "rests" One of my personal favs. Well done, deaden the sustain on the tail end of every chord and you'll be spot on. Every rest is a beat
yeah I thought he was only about seventy myself... hands down dangerous type is always going to be my all-time favorite cars song.. if I had to pick just one
I've done some studying on this song lately. What an amazing song it is. A breakdown in stereo spectrum shows Okasic in the Left speaker doing a chug very similar to "My best friends girl" and right speaker is Elliot Easton coming in one the Heavy parts/Chorus. Keyboards panned straight up the middle. This along with Ricks guitar gives the minor chord feel to which the cords you are playing during the verse in this video. Because I cant hear this guitar part (you do during the verse) in the original recording. Peace.
The part JJ is playing is there all the way through the verses. But halfway through each verse, Elliott comes in with a heavier, overdriven part that somewhat obscures this clean part. A one guitar version would probably have the clean part for half of each verse and the overdriven part for the second half, since that’s the same tone needed for the chorus.
The original video you poster of this song, I'm guessing was deleted by you. I had it in my favorites listing. The Cars were a great group and this is their best song (IMHO). As usual, you do a great job on here. I'm adding this video to my favorites.
1. Your ax sounds great! 2. Your rockin' out at the end sounds like this song could be covered a lot heavier...ala..Motorhead style. 3. Music use to be good...but those days are gone.
love the F chord with a high G. would that get called F9? great economy of chording. sweet verse and crunch chorus. did you for a moment think about playing the lead?
