This is something that I have a bad habit of doing, and that is trying to achieve a full length UK freight train in 00. My latest complete full train is the amazing PTA/JTA wagons from the renowned Accurascale. The first set I was gifted as a birthday present and they are in British Steel Blue with red ends. (Each pack contains 5 wagons) This is an outer pack meaning that one of the wagons has a tail lamp, that was last year.
The bug reignited when my brother was selling a grey VTG set, also an outer set just a week or so before this video going live. Going on that I now had ten wagons and I thought I'd have a look to see if any shops online were still selling them, knowing that most likely that Accurascale wasn't going to be making any more of them and that most of the main shops had sold out months ago I didn't fancy my chances. Twenty minutes of searching and I come across Olivias Trains with one pack in stock, or so I thought......The rest is now history.

IF FOR SOME SILLY REASON THIS LINK TO MY INSTAGRAM DOESN'T WORK PLEASE JUST GO ONTO YOUR OWN ACCOUT AND TYPE IN MartinDB83 and my page should come up.....Hopefully.
Thankyou.

Nice. I worked in transport planning at BSC when these were introduced and I went to Llanwern at Newport to see one of the first trains from Port Talbot arrive and be unloaded through the rotary uncoupling machine. The scale of everything in the steel industry was staggering. Sadly, its almost all gone now.

Cheers, 👍. Wow, I bet that was incredible to witness the sheer size of the trains turning up. It just goes to show the money involved in the steel industry "back in the day" and I bet the logistics behind it all was amazing to see. I take it that it was a class 60 or 59 pulling them and I take it that the rotary uncoupling machine was where the wagons get "held onto the rails" and the whole thing rotates to tip out the ore whilst still attached to the rest of the train? Ya it is sad to see it disappearing but time waits for no man and moves on. 👍

@@mrmartinb1615 Hi. Thanks for the comment. I can't remember seeing the motive power but from what I have subsequently learned it would probably be two or three Class 37 locos. As I recall, the locos detached and the machinery hauled the train through the tippler, very precisely. Incidentally, on the video there are some errors in the formation, as the couplings only rotated at one end, so the orange markings would all have to be leading, or trailing.

@@tommilton5753 No worries, 👍. The sound of two or three class 37s would be a sight and sound to behold. Lol. That is really fascinating to know that. So just to make it clear for me to understand, the Orange end of the wagons represents the buckeye coupling that would rotate when the whole wagon was turned? Thank you for letting me know about the ends, really interesting to know. 👍👍 I'll try to remember when I do a running session. 👍

What did you do buy half of accurascales production run? It's nice to know you have a layout that can take a full rake of wagons that long. Still, you've got to spend your hard-earned money on something. Ever thought about putting in a helix instead of those 1:1 hills [if you have room ], It could solve some of your running problems.

Thankyou for the comment. 🤣🤣..I wish, specially what is coming out in the next 9 to 12 months....(items on order)...Ya that is very true, the only trouble was buying brand new wagons that there was no discount, oh well...I did get free P+P though...lol. Well, me and my bro wanted it going round in a big loop, so you would be walking in the middle of it, the fiddle yard at the back and the scenic part at the front. Only issue is the loft is used for more than just model trains. At the time of building a helix wasn't considered but thinking about it would probably be a good option now. It would just mean having a big redesign that we not too fussed about. 👍

What's the locomotive?
@mrmartinb1615
@mrmartinb1615 Год назад
Well, I'm considering a couple or so Dapol Class 59s as I have a couple long "heavy" freight trains. But to go with these wagons an EWS one I think.

What you need is a banking engine on the rear? Or maybe two 37s that would be cool?

@@Mike-kc8rl I would love to achieve that one. Lol.
