Moving is never easy. We are currently on my 19th move (7/8th for my oldest who will be 12) and it never gets easier. But I love the flexibility homeschooling provides through the process. The crazy part is even with pauses or bumps in our normal schedule my girls have continued to progress and learn. I still worry but I remind myself this isn’t our first rodeo and we always figure it out. Enjoy the adventure.

We recently also moved across country in US with my homeschooled then 8 yr old over 5 days. I bought her a map from the AAA in person store to follow our route, learning how to follow the map for our journey. She colored in our trip on the map as we went from state to state, and she loved it! I don't know many kids that can read maps like that now a days, so it's pretty cool she enjoyed it so much. Wishing you all the best on your adventure! Excited for you and your family. We found the change we were looking for with our big move and hope the same for you!

My husband just retired from the military at the end of August and we decided last minute we're going back to our home state in the spring. I'm stressing and anxious, but watching you move is helping! We're planning on renting for 1-2yrs as well to decide on the area we want to buy. Thank you for being so open and honest about homeschooling while moving.

You are so beautiful -,inside and out. We have some over lapping. Our family has moved so many times with years of being with the military/DOD. We lived in 6 states and Korea in a 10 year period - with more to count. In a previous move a yr ago, I used simple ABC/123 flash cards from Amazon for my 5 and 6 yr olds. We reviewed numbers 0-9, 10-19, and so on to 100. As MUS says, “Once you know 0-9, it’s easy - just add a 10.” I have used LOE Essentials in the past, so I knew how to use the first 26 phonogram sounds along with order and matching lower/upper case. This was mastered in about 3 weeks. What an incredible foundation. They have sailed right through reading - easy peasy. It truly was the best choice long term. Once settled, we added the remaining phonograms. I do not use the Foundations workbooks. I use TGTB with our phonograms. The children have completed their Language levels in half the time because they know their phonogram sounds. So, two levels completed in a year; they fly through them with ease. It works beautifully. In July, we moved again from TN to Fl., I donated/sold 50-70% of my curriculum/readers. I thought the same thing, I must use the library and be more minimalistic. We don’t typically go back to read a book a second time. In truth, most readers were purchased as we have not had access to a good library with our secluded locations over the last decade. It was exciting growing our “collection” of books, but it felt wasteful, too. We, also, rented our new home to learn the area and from photos online. As. I walked through the door the first day, I couldn’t believe my decision. However, All was fine and we really like our new home. It fits our family nicely.

I think you’ll appreciate Logic of English once you get into it. It took us 4 years to get through Foundations and now we’ve moved on to Essentials. You’ll get into the rhythm and pattern of the curriculum. Use their spelling analysis videos till you get how she does it. I also bought the online supplemental for Foundations. So helpful! If I can work full time from home and do this curriculum so can you ❤

Hope you feel better. Take a deep breath it all be ok. Have the kindergarten listen to the letter sounds and phonograms while your moving. It help a ton!

I bought Logic of English for my kindergartener this year. We started it and then stopped. He’s newly 5 and I felt he wasn’t ready for it. We’re focusing on simply letters & numbers & handwriting and then we are going back to it. Fingers crossed we like it! lol

I watched the RU-vid Logic of English videos from Homeschool Peace. She’s pretty thorough with everything. I will say, my son is zooming through the Foundations A level because I had already done the phonogram flashcards in the summer before we officially started the curriculum in August. We had also finished the AAR pre-reading level prior to LOE. We will most likely start B in November or second semester. You may find that your son can get through A & B in one school year as well.

We use core knowledge free resources….they’re skills program really is great. He’s young, my son is a 1st grader and we’re only half way through the kindergarten phonics/writing but in 1st grade comprehension. I honestly think it’s a boy thing and my son has a may birthday.

I would highly recommend doing the LOE online. It makes it so easy and both my kids are becoming strong readers. My 5 yo is halfway through B. Let me know if you have any questions

Reading is hard and doesn’t happen naturally. I would follow the videos from Homespun Childhood about it. He won’t read naturally it takes real work. Science mamas kid still struggles.
