The greatest car market crash we've ever seen has started. The new and used vehicle market will crash in 2024, I explain how and when in this video.
The driving factors at play include:
- Negative Equity Highest Ever! $6K.
- REPO Rates are HIGHEST EVER! People can’t afford their OVERPRICED Cars.
- Repos Up 21%…
- Tow truck companies are backed up…
- Number of people with car payments over $1000 up 18%…
- Auto insurance rates are out of control… (average annual cost was $847 in 2007… ($60 month)… now $2542 per year
- Cost of living is the highest we’ve seen… prices have inflated faster than we’ve ever seen. 36% MSRP hike since 2019…
- Job salaries haven’t risen at an equal rate…
- Inventory averages… 78 days, going up.
- Interest rates are awful
- Emissions standards are forcing unwanted vehicles into the market… EVs
- WAIT 60-90 days to buy a vehicle… retail is always behind wholesale prices.
- The decline will continue through 2024… no sign of letting up.
- PS: remember the dealers who took advantage of customers during COVID and pay them no business now that deals are good.
Let me know your thoughts on the current car market. Do you think things will get better or worse in 2024? Thanks for watching as always. Please consider Liking and Subscribing if you haven't already. Thank you for the support!
-Stay Untamed...

I like how bringing prices back down to a reasonable range is considered a “crash”.

So when inflation goes down its a crash! My used car was selling for more money 3 years after I bought it. Thats not your normal up and down. Prices went up because of chip shortages ect thats not your typical thing for price ups and downs either. This is things going back to normal.

I spent my whole life in the car business. I was with a manufacturer, then went retail running dealerships and then as a consultant and finally fully retired at over 70. You analysis is spot on but it is actually worse than you think. Major recessions start with the car business. The days supply, across the board, is much higher. Ram is sitting on a two years day supply of 2500 and 3500 pickups. Ford and GMs inventories are way up there, too. Dealerships grew accustomed to inventories costing 2 or 3% to sit on their lots (what we call interest floor plan). That is not the case and these dealerships are choking on excess inventories especially the much more expensive EVs. The flood of repos is causing used car values to plummet as these cars hit the auctions. As you said, the average consumer is $6K upside down on their trades, if the still owe on it. Used car values have decreased so they are upside down and their cars are worth less. Manufacturers have increased prices about 50% over the last 5 years. During that time, they weren't offering any incentives either. Part of this was caused by the chip shortage but much of it was caused by the government's wasteful spending flooding the economy with money they just printed.

I’ve been waiting my adult life for st like Saturn…cars priced like a loaf of bread, if it’s a $1, cross the river, it’s $1 at another dealer. That ended 20-30 years ago (they’re still on the road). Hoe much does it cost? Is still some top secret gangster question at any dealership. A: how much do you want to spend per month? Go buy anything else-they give you that answer you’d walk out instantly. Because it’s so disrespectful, dishonest, just stupid-sounding. I have closed my last two vehicle purchases online. When I walk in, it’s understood I want a test drive, and to pay. I don’t want to speak to the finance guy who says, well you know it’ll break soon…you want tire coverage ($1,000 ea.) engine coverage, glass coverage, additional injury coverage, & prepaid maintenance plan? Etc? 1st sell you your dream car for whatever they can get from you/then tell you it’s a piece of sh*t & sell you additional $3-5k in insurance or whatever add-ons they’re selling. One place I walked in/walked out, but I at least had to initial 10 line items to prove they tried to upsell them to me, before I walked out drove my new car away. That’s a business model? Hm.

@RevansLair, the housing market has already slowed for individual consumers. The problem is that Corps are still purchasing voraciously as they forecast a large influx of owners turning to renters. Many people who purchased properties at inflated prices these last few years will now feel the effects of the overall inflation triggering a mass foreclosure market (and the corps will aquire those as well). Those same people will now be forced to rent.

Also ownership makes a better neighborhood because people are invested and want to keep things in good condition. They care more about their neighborhood. She said “wow I never thought about it that way”. My son wants to buy a little home but can’t get one in his price range because of all the investors buying them up. One investor told him, if you find a house let me know, I will buy it renovation it and “let” you rent it from me 😳😳😳😳 she acted like she was doing him a favor! The results on the household debt and the economy from rising interest rates, repos and forclosures, slowing down of manufacturing, increases in layoffs, it's all there. Very well done, haven't seen it laid out better by anyone.

Back in 2022 we were in the market to replace our 2013 Explorer with 225,000 miles. We absolutely fell in love with the Telluride. We found one in Conway, a white, SX with an MSRP of $45,000 + a market adjustment of $12,000! I refused to buy and started researching my options with other dealers in Arkansas. Found a dealer Jonesboro that offered MSRP + $1950. We were able to order one and within 5 months we had our new Telluride. Out the door price $49,900. This was with every extended warranty that was available.

I hear what you are saying. The problem with consumers saying "they should make stripped-down versions of cars to make them more affordable" is nobody actually buys them in practice and dealers have to sell at a lower margin to move the stripped out models. Options sell, and mfrs and dealers make a lot of money on added options so that's what the consumer is going to get.

There's another dynamic that's not being realized. Dealers were not getting new vehicles in. A lot of them were selling out and had no new car stock and very little used cars. There are people that work for dealerships that were struggling as well because they had no inventory to sell. So to counter that dealers were forced to make what they could on units they had in stock. We are quick to go after the dealer but the manufacturers were not giving dealers the inventory they needed to charge less. Also, customers trade-ins were worth wayyyy more as well during this time.

Great information and accurate video, thanks! A Dodge Durango GT Plus MSRP in 2021 was $46,000. Currently, the same model in 2024 (if your can find one; dealers have zero inventory), the MSRP is $58,000! The cost per month on that same vehicle is at least $200-$300 more than it was only 3 years ago. To have a lease payment of $600-$750 is crazy. To have a lease payment of over $1,000 per month is insanity. If you need transportation, buy yourself a Hooptie and wait until this vehicle market corrects itself. IMHO, it will not be April of 2024. Don't get yourself in debt with high-risk depreciation. Be financially smart. Don't put unnecessary pressure on your monthly income vs. spending.

Great intel. After 20+ years in the automotive industry, I’d recommend holding out until the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year. Even though prices are coming down, historically the spring market is the busiest time for dealers, so they’re about to see an uptick in foot traffic. Once that demand levels off and ultimately decreases, as long as the supply is still high, prices will decrease even further. Combined that with 2-3 Fed funds rate cuts and all of sudden we’re back to relative normalcy. I’ll be looking in the fall

I live in the midwest (Illinois) and have been researching new trucks everyday for several weeks now after the holidays. Have printed off several windows stickers for both Ford and Chevy trucks and "matched" them up according to trim level and options. While the options may not be exactly the same the MSRP (windows sticker) are all with in $200 - $500 dollars of one in other. Looking at all Ford and Chevy dealerships across the state it amazes me how much different the discounts are when obtaining an OTD price. My local Ford dealership has an XLT crewcab that is literally the same truck, color, motor etc that a dealership 90 miles away has. The local dealership = $2500 mark down. Dealership 90 miles away = $10K mark down. EXACT same truck. I know ford does some weird things with regional discounts and what you qualify for, but that's quiet the difference on discounts. I haven't even begun to negotiate yet. And no the heavily discounted truck is not a loaner/demo truck. Brand new with 5 miles on it. The Chevy dealership is whole different story. They dont want to come down at all. Ford lots have lots of trucks to look at, Chevy dealerships are bare.

I know you were saying you thought you got a good deal because of paying $5300 under MSRP however, the MRSP has gone up as you later said 36% so that doesn’t make a good deal.We are going to see tremendous lows and I don’t feel a bit sorry for the dealers and manufactures because they tried to screw us badly and now they’re gonna pay hopefully many of them will go out of business because I don’t think the taxpayer should bail them out.

When many of the the dealers go out of business where will you buy your next car? Answer: To another dealer, probably a lot farther away, where there's now 10X the demand because everyone has to go to that dealer now. And you'll pay an even higher price. It's called competition, and when it goes away is when the real "fun" starts. I don't want dealers to go out. I'm all in favor of a reasonable profit - key word reasonable. And forget about the car mfrs selling direct- it's not going to happen anytime soon, if ever. "Wait out the dealers and let em starve" is a nice sound bite but it's not feasible, and we don't want it to happen as consumers. And no, I don't work for a dealer or the car industry.

@@ronhoover5516 If there's a crash not every dealership will suffer poor sales just some, may even close. .. I disagree with you about direct sales from manufacturer. Straight to customer. ... . Quite a few cost savings there for both manufacturers and customers.. Dealerships are outdated and expensive to run. .. considering people can buy cars online now....

@@ronhoover5516 First of all, I’m not foolish enough to pay something that’s 50% higher than it should be in just a short three years. I generally buy used. I let others pay the high prices and believe me there will always be dealers. It will root out the bad ones. If you pay these prices, do you think it’s gonna stop. That’s like giving into a spoiled child. I’ll never stop.

Boy I hope the dealers put those “market adjustments” away for a rainy day. There are many Facebook and instagram pages dedicated solely to finding dealerships that out huge mark ups on vehicles both during the “supply shortage times” as well as some that somehow still continue to do it. If you’re in the market for a vehicle i would recommend checking those out to make sure you don’t give them business. I’ve also seen where dealers now stash vehicles away from the lot to make it appear as though there aren’t a ton of vehicles in their inventory, the greed is real.

Every time I look at the new Honda Odysseys, I’m grateful for my 2011 with 165K miles. I’m 76 and still going strong. I was hoping to have one more new vehicle, but unless something changes, this van may be it for me! What few repairs I’ve made in the past few years doesn’t even cost a car payment.

People are just fed up with these prices and markups.I purchased my truck in 2020 early on in the plandemic, and I still got 10000 below MSRP. That is a long time for me to hang on to the same truck, but my discipline of not allowing myself to pay these prices has paid off

2024 is going to be quite interesting. I bought a ‘22 TRD OR premium in Jan. ‘22. Bought on intention to keep for awhile, but I do want a ‘24 Tundra… but not with 8-10% APR. My Taco only costs me 2.99%. But I’m extremely satisfied with my Tacoma, 2 years and 77,000 miles, yes 77K lol, I drive a lot and it’s the most reliable vehicle I’ve owned in the last 15 years. Probably should wait to get a tundra for a few more years

Good to finally see a Toyota youtube guy telling the truth and not just drinking the kool aid. I paid (too much, but I wanted the Pro), 54K for my used 2020 Tundra Pro with 47k miles on it in June of 2023, about the same price it sold for brand new. The day I bought it from the Toyota dealership in Alabama, they sold a 2023 Tundra Pro for over 70K. There is no justification for Toyota to raise the price that high. So called "improvements" should not come with any increase quite frankly, since most of us have waited forever for them to "update" the Tundra. But the only notable improvements I see are the rear coil suspension, better quality sound system and screen size, and nicer interior bed. There is a minor increase in towing and tiny increase in mpg. All that with likelihood that the turbo 6 will not have the same long life, even though it's a Toyota. These things don't justify a $20K price markup. On top of that, the front end is just ugly as hell unless everything is blacked out and who wants to spend the money on that? Then the worst is that if you put an aftermarket lift on it, you void the freaking warranty.

I took a screen shot of a Toyota stealership here in McKinney, Tx in Aug. 2022 selling two used 22 Tundra TRD Pro's for 95k and 98k. Needless to say i don't even take my 21 Tundra there for oil changes anymore. Any business that can pull that, is not to be trusted in ANY capacity.

Question is why are you wanting it? Is a truck your necessity or your vanity. Stop wanting stuff. Go to the market to get what you need not what you want and when you really need it. Spend your time on family instead of treating business offerings as milk on a mothers teat.

Great content. Everything you described here is exactly what I've seen here in Northern Virginia. Tried to get rid of my 2018 f150 and went to see some trucks....it was a disaster. High APRs, salespeople trying to trick you into getting something I didn't want, lied to me about vehicle availability, unwillingness to give discounts, etc., so I decided to keep my truck for a bit longer.

I have ZERO interest in new/newer way overpriced plastic vehicles full of soon to fail electronics. I also have ABSOLUTELY ZERO INTEREST IN A EV ANYTHING!! I will keep and keep up what I have.
