Absolutely LOVE your Videos & Teaching Stye Nathan. Question regarding not missing the value bets, and using your example of Item # 3, You value, they Raise a significant amount, do you call assuming a Bluff/Semi, or could they be trapping you? They Jam all-in...what about your value bet then? Let it go? I find myself Check/checking the river in situations like this to avoid having to face a raise.....

The "boring" strategies and all your teachings turned me from a break even player to an average 15K$ a year sideline poker player. Big thank you, keep up the great content!

Keep drilling the concepts into your head while at the table. Stay uber focused. It's SO easy to lose your focus and forget to execute, it actually takes a lot of discipline to do it for hours at a time, hand for hand. Most people can play decent poker for a lil bit, but most start declining after 2 hours. Why is that? Lack of discipline and not reading the room. It's when you are card dead after 3 hours, when your big PP keep getting run down, when you are missing all your draws, etc........THAT is the true test of a good poker player.

​@@BlackRain79PokerMy state frowns on gambling; the nearest casino is in the next state an hour away and it usually takes 1-2 hours to get on a table, so changing tables or leaving and coming back the next day is not always easy. Do you recommend any online cash sites that either don't care where you're from or don't care if you use a VPN? I've looked into WPTGlobal and GGPoker but neither seem to be available in the US.

I think that this video was aimed for the very specific mistakes that he considered to be of most importance to players who make them (noobs). I was also going to mention that he forgot to talk about winning when villain has coolers, which is what will also happen using this strategy. He could've talked about how to play those pots when it's not against a fish, but a reg or something. But I guess you can't give it all away in one video lol.

I mean #6 point is to not play out of position calling 3 bet with a mediocre hand. As it's point playing K9, K8, K7 suited or not is just a terrible way to play. At least KQ, KJ is better because if you're out kicked, and if they get two pair, you actually have an out to get to a straight vs having K9, K8, K7 suited where if you dont get two pair or the a way to the flush, you essentially wasted money.

His point isn't about the flip. Check raising on the flop is a great way to control the hand and also to build up the pot. This also tend to put in your opponent's head to try and bluff the river if they miss. Doing it on the turn, you miss out to build a pot. The turn could have given your opponent more outs. It allows your opponent to be in control of the hand more and you have less information if your opponent calls your check raise on the tune and a shove on the river. Your opponent would actually tend to check on the river if they didn't face a check raise on the turn. One of my favorite moves when I flop nuts, is to check raise flop and check on the turn. This kind of move really throws off your opponent and makes them think you actually didnt hit the flop and are on a draw trying to end the hand on the flop with a semi bluff with the turn giving you nothing. So if you have the nuts on the flop and the turn and river still have you on the nuts, this more often induces bluffs and a polarizing bet would also have your opponent more often call with their bluff catcher.

Your problem is starting at such small stakes. You're not learning anything AT ALL. Microstakes is just broke people who have gambling problems and aren't playing even the most basics of poker.... You're better off saving, and start playing at at least 25 cents BB or higher.

Maybe I can try to explain it. You don't need to be on tilt to start playing bad. Being on tilt and playing bad isn't exclusive to one another. He is suggesting to not buy in more than 3 units, 1 unit usually equaling the max buy in on the table which should be equaling only 5% of your whole bank roll. Being on tilt is playing the game through sheer emotions of trying to chase your loses regardless how the session has gone. You could have been playing well, on a plus for the session but a couple of bad best would put you on tilt and until you win money back, you're playing strictly with emotions. This usually means that you're playing with any two cards. Playing bad and not on tilt, is just one of days. Your session is you playing the basics and playing the hand correctly and smart positions. Although you are missing bets, making bad calls knowing you're beat with your good hand. On top of getting rivered because you're allowing your opponent catch up, folding against obvious bluffs. You are technically not playing on tilt because you are still only playing premium hands, trying to play in position but in accumulation of different kinds of variables, you're just not playing well but not allowing your emotions get the best of you. Sometimes it's just your day, you can't stay in focus, you're just going through the emotions of playing premium hands. Either way of being on tilt, or playing bad it is better to just call off the session when you pulled out 3 buy-ins already. The difference of being on tilt and playing bad, although both can be happening at the same time, is you can go on tilt while still being up for the day, you're actually playing one of your best sessions. I usually quit if I lose two bad beats when the first one aleady put me on tilt. I already know I would lost all of my winnings and as good as it is to get back at your highest for the session, it is usually better to just quit when you're not even up more than half of what you bought in for. While playing bad, you were never up to begin with. You usually cannot be on tilt, unless you actually have managed to play for quite some time and have been able to turn a good profit. Think back all the times you went on tilt, why did you go on tilt because o guarantee you, every time you have went on tilt, you were up and end up losing a good chunk of your profit in a couple of hands. You can't go on tilt when you were never up on the first place. Essentially the advice is don't chase loses nor try to force your way back to the highest amount of profit you had in a session. It's better to quit down 3 units of your buy in, than to keep buying in and getting even after buying in like 6-10 times more as you are doing a lot of damage to your mindset for future sessions. It is easier to chase 3 units as it is just two double ups, but 6-10 units of loses might take a couple of sessions just to get back to where you were.

Go home. It means it's not your day. You hit at the lowest of your variant. As sets shouldn't be losing more than 40% of the time you flop set. If you lose more than 3x of flopping sets, it means you're just getting unlucky for that session. IF you are losing flop sets in majority of your sessions, it means you are doing something wrong and should really record your game to understand what you're doing wrong, as there are definitely a lot of holes in your game. It's rare enough that you're in a coin flip with a set on the flop, losing the coin flip more than 50% of the time is a probability anomaly.

Exact same thing happened to me last night. Loose cannon called preflop with Q9o and flopped 2 pair. Put me all in and I couldn’t let it go. Cooler honestly imo

QUIT online poker. Been there, done that. You cannot win online poker. Regardless of poker site. It's not poker. It's slots in form of poker. Nuff said. . I fold most of these trash hands, but I notice that people even 3 bet with such trash. Anyway, j am down 750bb 1/2c. So not so bad. It means that you check in hope someone would bet and then u bet more, raise on top of the opponents bet. If that makes sense. You can do it before flop, or on the flop etc

No. It means when you check on the flop, turn or river and raise when they bet. He wants you to check/raise as soon as you have something good like a set on the flop. Obviously you can only do that when you’re out of position. Otherwise he would be telling you to 3 bet in position.

Lots depend on board texture. That’s part of the skill. And reading what your opponent has. And, it also depends on YOUR image. If you’re a tight player/abc and I know that, then I know when you make that move it’s never a bluff. You have at worse 2 pair. That’s why raising on flush or straight draws makes you more dangerous and unpredictable. This getting you paid.

Well in poker rooms, sometimes is just too packed and hard to get a table change or else you would have to wait another few hours.

I wouldn't bother with those if you play small stakes.

i would sometimes play bad hands with confidence on how well I can play around it, as it is sometimes your biggest pots getting lucky out of nowhere with a hand your opponents didn't put you having those cards. With that said, I will never play a picture and a low card regardless if they're suited. The most I would do is Ace rag, but it has to be suited as I at least can go after the straight or flush. Playing K4, Q4, J4 and other similar hands is just asking to get punished. There's nothing wrong mixing in with hands that's not premium but you at least first gotta be able to play around it and be a hand that can give you multiple outs. K rags is just too far apart and majority of the time never good. Like 99% of the time. Your best case scenario is getting a full house with it but filling up with your high card could mean you are losing to a bigger boat.

Yeah, a lot of people don't know that to play at the highest tier of poker, it takes a lot of mental fortitude. When I used to play at a perfect game sessions for more than 8 hours a day. It is mind numbing and it was exhausting to keep such a discipline to not play the bad hands. To not make dumb bluffs or calls. I actually have played so perfect that the regulars in the cardroom no longer wanted to play a hand against me and I would get automatic folds. The moment i raise everyone folds. I had this happen to me and it went for hours. Only way I get to see a flip was through blinds and yet the moment I bet our everyone folds. They were folding top pairs against me, as long as there was no pot, they weren't calling any bet. Add that kind of session and at the same time playing high tier, it is mind numbing.

I play most of my hands only from position. Its great for getting the aggro players to switch their barreling tendency to a 'check/donk bet small' line instead if they're the first to have to act on every street! I can see more turn and river cards for free.

He is saying if you got into a board. There are many times when you have AA and you don't get a chance to shove it all in. Sometimes you just 3x bet your aces in a situation and the villain flats to you into a dangerous board. Depending on the board a NIT majority of the time won't 3 bet you without having more than at least two pair. Its more than just aces. He is saying that you should be able to find folds with your monster hand depending on a situation. As unless you have the nuts, you can always lose the hand.

The strategy will change heads up quite a bit.

I will admit there are times when I know I was playing too many hands when it went HOURS without a winning hand. :( But not in the example above - just this weekend. I am hearing the "accept losing days"; unfortunately these Horrible days happen WAY TOO OFTEN. This session I did FINALLY get 66% back with lucky hand at the end.

If you are 3 betting K10, you should buy an aquarium because there is definitely a fish in you. Only way I'm 3-bettong K10 is against someone who know their game. Where I already have a good read on their hand, and I know if I'm get in a situation that I am willing to lose at least half of my stack.

As a top tier player who just never really put in the work and always end up at the gambling tables. These are actually good advice and this is something I learned a long time ago and it's just good to hear. I can play at higher tiers but hearing the basics can get someone in focus. Once the basics is second nature. Your next tier is noticing little things. Once you're at a certain tier. You will know who is good and who aren't at the tables almost immediately. Also other top tier players who are fishing, if they notice you're at or higher of their tier, there will be a mutual silent respect where you both won't play each other and get out of the way from one another. You will also start to notice the wannabes on the tables who think they're a top tier caliber and they'll start gunning for you. I had a session, started at $300 and about 3 guys on the other side of the table started to run the table but they just couldn't be and they started to gang up on me. I outplayed them at every turn where I'm bluffing at 3 bets on the river and having them to fold. They wanted to beat me so bad that when I have the best hand I just punish the for at least 30-40% of their chips that they would get from other fish on the table. At the end of that session, I was $1k, and has $1300 on the table, I had Aces and played it aggressive because I was leaving. Flop comes rainbow low cards. I bet big to end the hand on the flop, they raise back to about $400 and so I shove all in and they called me with pocket 3s. They had a guy shot with their pocker 3s. Board ran out well. Stacked him for $900+ so I ended up leaving up over $2k i think i cashed out $2600 Point is no matter how good you think you are, it's not smart to try and beat someone who is as good or better than you on the tables. It's better to just get out of each other's way as there are plenty of fish. I wasn't even going after them until I heard them started talking, so I turn up my game and pulled out all my moves to shut them down to the point I had them shoving against me on a guy shot draw just so they can win a pot against me. Because night they couldn't get a big pot off me. I always folded when I knew I was way behind and squeezed them every time I was ahead.

Even against friendly games. I was always a target because they feel like if they beat me , they feel they took down a legendary player. Of course there are nights against my friends where the luck wasn't on my side but they always want to extend the game until the morning, it's just proof that better players will always win out and thats every all nighter, I have never lost a session against my friends.

You gotta have bluffs in your game or else your just a NIT whose game will be easily predicted. You gotta be smart at bluffing. If you're not great at reading your opponents card, I wouldn't suggest to go over board on big bluffs. Do small bluffs at right timing and show others you bluff. Showing bluffs is a huge tool if used properly. About 80% of the time I actually show my hand, it's part of my game. It really throws people off especially when you big pots and don't need to show, it really put fishes on tilt, especially the wannabes.

Value bet is anything that you would consider the highest amount your opponent will call. I can see how anything over 50% of the pot would no longer be considered a value bet as it is no longer an easy call for your opponent as a value bet should be an easy call for your opponent and not put them in a tank.
