Festus sang the first verse of this song in the episode "Comanches is Soft" from season 9. He plays foil to Burt Reynolds' character "Quint" in what has to be one of Gunsmoke's funniest episodes.
Yes, must be the episode where he kept hand wrestling Quint and Quint threw him into the billows, he hid under the wagon Quint was on to go buy another one. I loved it..the 🎵
Mr. Curtis was a great actor, entertainer and well know for his voice. There are several old John Wayne movies with him singing and one of his best noted is when guest stared on Have Gun Will Travel. Thank you for viewing and I hope you enjoyed my silly memories.
Blew me away the first time I watched it! And every time since. I already knew he was a good singer, but when you see him in his "character" it just takes you by surprise, and then realize what a wonderful actor he was. RIP, Ken Curtis
Ken Curtis had SUCH a talent! He could do comedy, drama, and sing in different keys!! What a performer. I really liked the mood of this scene, the direction, script and acting was top notch! 😀😀 Long live Festus!!
I remember when my family got a tv set. As long as I can remember, Gunsmoke was one of my favorite shows. And of all the characters, I think Festus was my favorite.
Ken Curtis was so very talented and nothing like his character of Festus. But he gave such personality and charm to Festus that we just couldn't help but love him. Always enjoyed it when Festus sang and when he told one of his tall tales!
One of my all time favorite shows and certainly my favorite western. Miss Kitty was such a pretty lady. I always wondered why she and Marshall Dillon never got married after 20 years!
Remember the first time I saw Ken Curtis as himself in a John Wayne movie, threw me off, cause all I'd ever seen him as Festus! Great character great actor
I had the honor and privilege to shake hands with Festus at the American Royal in KC about fifty years ago when he autographed a picture for me. Golly bill Doc, I remember it like it was yesterday. It's says with a whole heap of good wishes Ken "Festus" Curtis. One of the best memories I have.
My favorite parts: -Festus: You hear that? As sure as the Lord made little green apples we're fixin to have ourselves a twisty. -Festus: You ever see the wind blow a rooster in a jug? Well I did? Gotta LOVE Festus!
He was also a good looking man out of the festus character, Its hard to believe when you see him as AS HIMSELF ALL CLEAN shaven and dressed UP THAT he is the man that played festus.
Does anyone know how many deputies were on Gunsmoke & can you name them? (Main character deputies. Not out of town deputies or anyone that was deputized temporarily to run with a posse.)
I wonder why they didn't have Ken playing the guitar. From what I've seen, he's fairly talented (and with a much better singing voice than what he could display here). Wasn't he in the Sons Of The Pioneers?
Ken Curtis "Festus" was a singer in ,was it Tommy Dorsey's big band.He was a Sons of the Pioneers. He stared in a couple shows too ; Is that right ,can't remember ? Thanks for the video of a great singer/ actor
Ken Curtis was one of the "Sons of the Pioneers" for four years. He also sang with Tommy Dorsey's band after Frank Sinatra left. All that being said... I like Dennis Weaver. Better actor and he seems like a man who was in the civil war.
@Luther Baker I agree but many people as I do still loved the character he played as far as his character of festus as you SAY BEING annoying that was written in by the movie writers for him to be sometimes annoying, but he was always there for Mat Dillon the sherriff WHEN he needed him to be.
