So exciting! Two videos in one week. You are going to spoil us! I love it. Thanks for the treat ❤️ the difference in the cottage is enormous already. I’m glad you are not putting yourselves under the gun. Slow and steady, will win this race. Everything you have done in your chateau is in such lovely taste. I particularly enjoy how you mix time periods. I’ve seen this where it didn’t work! But yours always does. Always current with a large nod to the past! I have no idea if they have tillers in France? We got one for a very large garden. Unfortunately it weighed twice as much as me, so the big burly husband had to till. I did the stoop labor and removed weed clumps before we covered it up for the Winter. As usual in marriage, there were compromises. I was the full time gardener, my dear husband was the “Harvester” and good fairy sharing all the produce. It gave him such joy sharing all the goodies from the garden. (Less for me to can or freeze) 😅 Speaking of canning and beautiful refrigerator storage! Thanks again for the surprise!

This cottage has the potential to be the most charming ever... a bit too large for hobbits... but put a round combination door/window on the back into the garden and it will be fit for Bilbo Baggins himself! I can't wait to see what they do with it... I hope they use some of the barn space to enlarge it. If it is turned into two units, with the smaller cottage also enlarged with half of the barn, they have a great opportunity to turn it into a B&B with a nice tidy income from both units. 💗

I started binge watching your channel a week ago. I’m almost up to date. Although I will never travel to France or own any size of chateau, I am living vicariously through you two. Even though it is a lot of work, I am jealous of all of it. You have a gift for vlogging, decorating and telling a great story. Can’t wait to watch more and see how it all turns out. Thank you, to both of you.

Hi! Amanda ., why don't creat a small room with a sink and stove refrigerator. And your grill. And use this as a temporary place to cook. And focus on your kitchen. Finish it and continue with other priorities on that Chateau. You are going to burn down and exhaust Lincoln. And you want to enjoy what you bought now. Not until you are tired and exhaust of demolition. Plus you're not hiring any construction workers. It's to much for Lincoln. Blessings ❤❤❤

Ok, so this is a couple of videos later, but I am compelled to compliment you on your holiday decorating. Very tasteful. Without mentioning which ones, some of the other chateaulains on RU-vid have dragged their tacky decorations with them from somewhere else and it just doesn't work. Also, you mention what time the sun goes down, which is about the same as in the USA- but folks might not realize how LATE the sun comes UP! Short days, for sure.

The run about carriage is meant for a heavier horse like a draft or shire type horse which is over 2000lbs, it appears to be in decent shape but you would have be the judge of condition and worthyness for use again. Learning to drive an equine pulling a wagon or sulky would be fun!

Compost needs to be in a high heat state therefore it will not grow seedlings or potatoes. However, all of us must arrive at our own state of what compost is and does. I've even heard of people burying their compostable garbage in the dirt and letting it rot naturally.

I hope you are taking the time to relax sometime during all your busy days? One thing I noticed in your cottage is that all your visitors were going to have to be able to get up stairs for the bedroom and bathroom, so I love planning where to put in a little lift. Imagine my disappointment when I saw the rear view of the cottage and realised the very strong slope of the roofline. Oh, my poor heart. Nevertheless, I did want to mention that it is possible to get a small Antique looking metal lift! I found them online. So if you do want to elevate (!) the cottage in this way, it is possible! Well, time to give the Egg Nog a practise run, so have fun, regards Susan at Hobart. 🎄😮

Yes, strawberries last about 3 years. We grew strawberries as a "Cash" crop in Illinois and we spent every June, managing our patch of strawberries. We allowed customers to pick their own or we would pick them for you, for an additional fee. Maintaining straight rows and keeping a good layer of straw down was really important for many reasons, clean fruit, dry pathway, kept the weeds down, etc, etc. Things I am sure you already know.

From a weekend gardener: you don't need to put canvases over the garden. It's useless work for you.You can leave the residue after removing the biggest one. The remains will enrich the compost. Your soil will be richer. You can add manure to your gardens and voilà! Nature takes its course. In the spring you can clean it, mix the soil and you will be ready. Strawberries are very, very invasive. We don't plant any anymore. The roots even spread outside the garden! You have to remove everything, otherwise they will come back. Good success. From Canada :) Your images at the beginning of all your videos are always beautiful. :)

You have a lot of trees on your land. Talk to your local forestry expert, mark a few trees that have no future, get the permit to cut them, and use them to make new beams for the cottage. To buy wood beams from a lumber yard these days would be sooo expensive. You can even add a few new trees in some spots so that you will regenerate the resources and keep the balance of the area.

I love watching your renovation and I enjoy your sense of humor,,however with all do respect why do you have to paint over all the original beautiful colors in grey? Why? It's so lifeless and ugly and industrial looking. Its a chateau in France not a jail cell. For example you painted over those beautiful natural wood guest beds a dark Grey like a sidewalk in new York city. Why? Please stop with the Grey everywhere it's gonna look like a moseleum. Anyways no offense I know its your chateau, just putting in my 2 cents. 😊

Pulling weeds is SO backbreaking. We spray our beds with white vinegar and water. The weeds die and are easy to rake up once they’ve dried up. Then we cover for the Winter. We’ve done this for years and it seems to always work. Makes for happy gardening in the Spring! P.S. The cost of all that vinegar is offset by not having to pay a chiropractor! 😆 And yes, that plant you pulled out of the compost looks like my avocado tree.

A self-admitted binge watcher here from Canada 👋🏽 Hi Amanda and Lincoln! I’ve really enjoyed watching your videos for a few reasons, the pace of your work (you are getting stuff done), design style and you’re realistic. Everything looks like it’s coming along nicely and I hope you get to enjoy some rest during the holidays. Btw this episode reminded me of Escape to The Chateaux episode when they were converting their outbuilding into a cottage, it too backed the walled garden, so they knocked out a space for a window and a door - so the residents of the cottage could enjoy the view of the garden and have a patio area. Have you considered something like? More work I know, but how fab to have more sunlight into the cottage and that view 😉
