One thing to keep in mind - wood needs to be seasoned before burning. Means that it has to dry out a few months before burning.

We put a wood stove in our home 4 years ago. We love it for our cold Indiana winters! We got two loads of wood yesterday. It’s very therapeutic stacking the wood knowing it’ll keep us warm in a few months!

Well done having a wood stove installed Tessie & Ken. I recommend checking out a magneto fan.They do not use electricity and operate off the rising heat from the stove stop. Our downstairs fan moves the air all the way up the stair well and they are quiet. You will love the security of a wood stove, especially during a power outage. We are on the grid and enjoy it as long as we can afford the rates.

Congrats on the wood stove! We have one in our home and in our small A-frame cabin - they work great and put out a lot of heat! You can get wood stove fans that sit on the top of the stove and operate just from the heat generated from the stove. They’re small but are great for moving the warm air around.

Years ago, a neighbor stored his wood in the garage and ended up with damage due to termites. It was an expensive lesson for him. Thought I'd share. Many blessings.

I highly recommend the electric fan/blower on the fire. It will blow the heat throughout your home. When we have it on it heat's the house, when we don't have it on its really only radiant heat. If you have the option of retro fitting it, I recommend you go for it.

There are fans for woodstoves that work by the heat of the stove, the hotter the stove gets the faster it blows. I have one and it works great and no electricity is required. Tractor supply has them.

Hey Dear Tessie, We got our Forester Woodstove from a neighbor several years ago...lady! It took 4 strong college men to get it in our small 480ft cottage home. We live in a 1940 fishing shack turn into a tiny home 😊 I will sometime in the winter see if I can find history info on it.

I wouldnt have gotten rid of the freezer.... For many items and just a few people, it is cheaper to freeze rather than can.

We have it yet we are using it just as storage we would use it if we absolutely have to but at this point we are trying to get away from electricity as much as possible

We had a wood stove at one point. It was taken out due to insurance reasons because it was an older model (it came with the house) and didn't meet the safety regulations. We did use it and it would heat up our entire house (1,000 square feet) very well. Might have been too well. We have a kerosene heater now for emergencies. We don't use it much but in a pinch it would work if the furnace went out or if we had an electrical outage.

Yes it's always good to have it on hand in case of electricity outages it's a good feeling to know that you can have heat even if the electric would be out

Yep went fron 180 to 250 electric to 38 dollars monthly don't use lights and put in an old fashioned water hand pump and wood for heat . Had to do something

Tessie, hello there. You can buy a wood stove fan that sits on top of your woodburner that doesn’t require electricity. It turns by the heat off of the woodburner. They help a lot to push heat into other parts of your home. We have 2 on our woodburner but only one is needed. We bought ours at Menards but I’m sure tsc would have them or on line as well. They are well worth the investment. We bought the small one for under $100 each. The key is to not have them in front of the stove pipe. They need to suck the cooler air from behind the stove not the hot air from the pipe. It will burn up the little motor on it if you have it in front of the pipe. We learned that so that’s why we have two. I had to buy a new motor for the one I burned up but we had used it for several years before I had did that. I was cleaning the dust off the top of the stove and didn’t put the fan back in the usual spot one time and that’s how I burned the motor up. Lesson learned.

Tessie, I just looked on Amazon and they have several on there cheap. The one that we have is $134 on there but I’m sure any of the others would work just as good. Some are as cheap as $24. It would save you on electric. Enjoy your woodburner. I love that kind of heat. We don’t use ours much anymore since we have an outdoor one now but it takes electric to use it. We are keeping our indoor one in case of no electric. When our kids were growing up that’s all we had to heat our 1700sq/ft house was our indoor woodburner. I love it. Enjoy!!

That is fantastic ,I will have to check my tractor supply as I have a mobile home,I have a fireplace, but they are really Not efficient . They do make a fan I saw it at one of the Amish stores around Holtwood, PA , when we lived there. They have them on line also ,the nonpowered wood stove fans ,they work very well and non electric works off the heat from stove ,it turns the fan .

I live in NY and have an old Fisher Grandpa Bear wood stove. It’s not “legal” anymore because NY passed new emission standards for wood stoves and only approved wood stoves are allowed. I now only use it during power outage emergencies. Wood heat is A LOT of work so I don’t mind not heating with it. A new approved wood stove and installation would cost way more than heating with my kerosene Monitor heater, I also have electric baseboard heat but I rarely use it.

We purchased a heat activated fan from Amazon that sits on top of the wood stove. It works well and requires no electricity or solar power.

I LOVE your mobile home. As time goes on, others will be envious, because even with blackouts, you can have heat, and with the lanterns, have light. So cool! My dad had a wood stove installed when we were children. When we turned teens, he had it removed. He did use some electricity, but it really helped with the electric bill in the winter. I loved the stove but hated hauling wood back then. I weighed 100 lb, and I had no muscle in my arms. I hope great health will keep y'all going. How much was the wood stove with installation?

Ould put a few pallets dowm then stack your wood on top of them; cenent floors can be damp.. Also i would not stack your wood against the walls of ypur wood structure. And, i would aim for some air flow on all sides of your wood stack. You couds build a wood bin completely out of pallets; especially an interior one. A,so consider a kindling box(s).

Sorry about the garbled words...On most of the platforms, what a person types is out intima single string of characters, or text, then parsed into words and printed on the screen et al. A number of things can affect how the longer text strings are taken in, are parsed, and then spit back out; it can even look good in the screen at the time of "zend" only to lose edits and/ or parse evenly differently for us in our rural tower which is shared by three air systems.

Im surprised your home owners insurance covers yours home with having a wood stove in. My late parents had to remove their mobile home approved wood stove in the 1979 Redmond double wide in order to be insured. Theirs was bolted to the floor and it sat on cement and Lake Superior rocks mixed in it. But I remember it being toasty warm during winter storms

@@HomesteadTessie some things raise the rates and some things lower the rates. I will assume/ hope that your upgrades didn't raise your rates because they made the structure sounder and less prone to damage. Now if you chose to gold leaf the siding, imcoukd see how rates might increase.
