As a global nomad who has worked and studied in the US, Continental Europe and the UK, I empathize with Sarah in terms of leaving your parents and family behind to work or study in another country. The last car ride to the airport with your family is always the hardest and the weepiest! No matter how many times I do it, it does not get any easier.

I feel like it fluctuates. There were times it was easier and times it was much harder. I went through periods of my life where I was far from home. And even though I live in the same country as my family now- I still never see them and live about 800km away... so it still feels like in European terms there are at least two Netherlands between us.

Really, really relating to all of this! Just got back to the US after several weeks in Korea. Besides being jet lagged into oblivion, it can really feel weird 'leaving home' and 'arriving home' at the same time (I'm from the US and my partner is from Korea). There's some bittersweet to it, and a whole lot of fatigue 😂... Hope you both have a restful readjustment back in Seoul ❤

A&W would only work in North America unfortunately, and that is because their main product is rootbeer, A&W is a rootbeer company that happens to have a fastfood chain, and I have yet to find a non-North American that likes rootbeer, except maybe some people in the UK, Australia, and/or New Zealand. It's a very acquired flavor from a plant that is native to the south east of the US (though no one really uses sassafras anymore in rootbeer since the oil from the root was found to be carcinogenic). I have heard there is a variety in mainland China and Taiwan, but I don't know if they have a tradition of extracting the flavor from the root like the native people in North America did. edit: just did a google map search, outside of the US and Canada, A&W is ONLY in areas where there is a US military presence like Okinawa and Bahrain and just one in Italy near the base near Naples, lol, and then randomly in Singapore and Malaysia and Indonesia there are franchises there, lol

It's so random, but my wife and I also live away from home in Scotland - we have the same luggage weight (black not red) and we also always sit in the middle at the end of the wing. We also traveled home to Poland about the same time you guys went. I'm the same as you are, always missing Poland when in Scotland and vice versa when I'm home in Poland - my wife however now just misses home all the time so we might move back one day...

And when I'm in Korea, I desperately need to travel / change the atmosphere around me since I'm so used to living in different countries. Sometimes I feel like I'm the person who could never adjust and settle in one place, because it makes me feel a bit bored at some point or maybe it's just a gypsy background of mine lol But one thing is true for everyone I guess - being away from the family is hard and it would be so much easier if we could visit them more often. 1:29 ah when I saw your mlm standing there I got teary eyed. Glad to know the stray cats are all good! I always wonder about them when you go to Canada. And Beemo! So cute! It reminded me when my dog got lost for 4 days, and a kind couple gave him refugee when they heard him howling at night. They saw his lost picture on the newspaper we put so they call us to get him back home and when they came he was sitting between them in a truck LOL and when he came down he was like "oh hi it's yall" 😂 and when theh were saying goodbye he añso dud that and jumped back in the truck 😂 i guess he had a fun time with them while he was away lol

The security line at Tom Bradley in LAX allows you to look out down below for a while and I do this thing where I linger a bit in line to watch my family walk away, sort of like I'm hanging onto that time with my family, even if it's just to watch them walk away. (No shit I teared up a little typing that.) I always think I am okay and then my sister starts crying and I lose my shit! I know what you mean about having two places to call home--I call the US 'home' when I'm in Sweden and I call Sweden 'home' when I'm in the US. I don't think that'll ever change, but I made the choice to share my life with someone who lives somewhere else and we have a wonderful life together so I can't complain. There did come a time where I noticed that when I would arrive back in Sweden, the smell of cinnamon, cardamom, and coffee would hit me and my heart felt so at ease. I knew then that I would never go back to the US and it felt a little bittersweet. I love your Canada vlogs but your goodbye videos always tug on my heartstrings a little because I know this feeling EXACTLY.

My heart goes out to you Sarah, and for your mama and daddy as well, having to say ‘so long,’ until next summer. All I can say is Thank God for social media! Our son is 14 hours away by car, and if it weren’t for FaceTime, I’d so be that worried mom! I’m truly happy that the cats were taken care of while you were away. Grey looks good! I hate the new baggage rules....but I went to fly back to Korea last time I visited home and checked in one bag online and when i got to the airport asked if I could check in another one and they said ok and never charged me for it......dunno how often that might work Gangneung - Miami is always such a long trip for me but lately I've only been seeing tickets that go through Cananda.......some for short layovers and some for long ones....which Canada airports are best for layovers?

Yes, it's not a very pleasant feeling when you have two homes and you can't be in both at the same time. I was born in Lithuania and left to england 15. Living in England for 15 years too. And I do miss Lithuania a lot, however my country is quite poor so I wouldn't be able to survive there, that's why I stay in uk. Probably if I would stay in Lithuania for a month I would too miss UK.

We just took the airport shuttle bus all the way to our place-not the subway or regular transit buses :) All the luggage is stored in a huge bottom compartment in the bus.

Actually yes! We really like the one we took from Toronto to Seoul, it’s the 787 Dreamliner ✈️ The seats are a bit comfier, the bathroom tap has a larger temperature range, but our favorite feature is the tinted windows and the full spectrum LED lighting that helps with jet lag :)

Even though my homes are only an hour apart I can still relate to that feeling. I grew up in a densely populated commuter belt, that hugs the outskirts of some smaller central mountains. I've been living in another massive metropolitan area for 15 years now and the landscape is so different (flat mostly and riverside). When I visit my family I realise how much the place I lived in for almost 2 decades feels like home and how much I enjoy the landscape. But coming back to where I live feels sort of coming home too. I don't like the landscape and weather as much, but my friends are and way more vegan restaurants are here (I'm a mostly plant-based vegetarian and trying out new food spaces is so fun).

I grew up in Canada and then moved to Australia and for YEARS it felt so horrible to always miss somewhere. I think I was married for 10 years before I decided I that wherever my husband was….was home. I’m coming up 20 years married and still miss Canada (my family, friends, food, nature). It’s a strange in between place to be.

I can relate to spending my summers in my home country and the weird feeling of how time goes both fast and slow. The trip there is full of excitement and everything seems so great. Then when it's time to go back, I remember holding back tears on the drive to the airport. Driving past the familiar scenery and knowing you'll be back to your "normal" life soon is so weird. It sucks but at least there's lots of us living with these experiences. Hope you adjust well back to Korea.

Can relate to the home sick feeling for two different places. Its hard leaving my home of origin but at the same time its such a relief when I finally get to rest my head on my pillow in the home I've made far away. Home is where your rump rests, as Pumba says.

Time went by so fast, the 5 weeks in Canada felt so fast but enjoyable right? Happy to watch you back in Korea! 😊 Belated Happy Birthday Sarah! Also, I booked a ticket over the weekend to spend my bday there in Seoul next yr! I'm Yaaay I'm excited, between last week of April to 1st week of May. Hi Sarah and Kyuho, I'm from Vancouver BC and we were just in Seoul last month for a vacation with my kids. I noticed that from Incheon Airport you guys took airport bus shuttle instead of Arex. Is there a particular reason why? Thanks More Power.

The only stop of the Airport Express train in Seoul is Seoul Station, so you have to transfer to another line to get to other parts of Seoul. All stop airport train and Seoul subway lines are quite crowded even when it's not rush hour so if you have a lot of suitcases, airport bus is a better choice imo😊

It's really tough on a lot of parents to only get to see their kids once or twice a year if they're lucky, but some don't even get that. Maybe, hopefully, one day you guys will be in a position to work remotely (youtube and related ventures take off enough to do so) and could then really live in Canada, but then you'd have the opposite problem with parents in Korea. Saying goodbye is always hard. I guess striking that balance and making a point to visit twice a year is a good compromise. As grueling as the traveling can be, I guess if it's important enough to make the effort, it's worth it. Good thing you guys have someone good to look after Beemo.

as a singaporean and having a kr spouse, i have my own home in my country but spouse is living with his parents in kr.. so i wouldn’t call that our kr home because it doesn’t feel like my home when i stay there kr is not the place where i want to lay my roots.. currently i shuttle between 2 countries if i want to visit kr hopefully someday i have a place i can call my 2nd home with my spouse.. it is indeed conflicted to have 2 countries to call home!😅 the woes of having an international spouse
