Maaaaybe most of the people in the crowd had never heard the song and had the same reaction that I did which was, "Really... A song called it's hard out there for a pimp won an Oscar.. Really.." I mean it just sounds like it's some typical rap song. It's actually a pretty good rap song but personally I don't think it's oscar worthy. I mean this is the oscars we're talking about, a better song should have won. In its defense though the other songs weren't great songs either so I feel like the award probably could have gone to either of them. Also I'm sure the crotchety old people in the crowd just didn't like the way they were dressed but that doesn't mean they're racists. Also Elvis Presley grew up like two blocks away from where 36 Mafia grew up so you can't say that you couldn't grow up any other way than they did.

I think the music itself is above typical rap songs but the lyrics are typical bragging about hustling. The streets are hard but instead of just moving away or trying hard to get a good job I guess it makes more sense to sell hookers. And it's not even like he's saying that that's what he has to do to get by, he's just trying to get rich before he leaves the ghetto. Not a very deep song. Again probably better than the other two songs but still not even close to Oscar worthy. The Oscars aren't about music though after all so the amount of music entries are going to be very few.
