Gear 5 is a Genius powerup! Oda could've kept Luffy's fruit just the Gomu Gomu no mi and the awakening would be very similar. The ability to perfectly control his own rubber body and make his surroundings and opponents rubber as well. So he'd still have very cartoony stretching powers. But the fact that he's Zoan gives him an added strength and speed boast when awakened. As well as the fact that Zoan abilities are unique in that they can be trained and made stronger just like Lucci said in Water 7. All this not to even touch on how great the themes of Nika and Joyboy and liberation tie into the story and Luffy's character.

Something to add here: no other manga story showed us the peak of their protagonist in so much mood of joy! And to me, this is the core Oda's message to all of us: the only way to win, even maintaining the greatest power in the world, is joy 😊

Sengoku's Devil Fruit is also a fruit that based on a eastern diety, The Buddha. Plus, The Buddha is also known for beating Sun Wukong and sealing prior to the events of the Journey to The West stories. He beat him by challenging him to get out of his hand. But because the The Buddha had the power of Nirvana, a power that makes you become one with the universe. After one leap, Wukong was still in his hand because the Buddha's hand was the universe. Hence when Sengoku said "Your right in the palm of my hand!". It just clicked for me.

The best One Piece, a storyline that has been built for more than 20 years. everything is very neatly arranged. "In my opinion" there isn't an anime/manga that can make a storyline as good as one piece. I hope Oda Sensei will always be given health so he can complete this story until it's finished🎉❤ What makes One Piece liked by many people is because of its adventures. Travel from island to island, save empires from dictators, free people from colonialism, defeat evil rulers, etc. One Piece, my best friend on Sunday, accompanies me with stories that are never boring, provides energy and inspiration beyond measure, and makes Sundays more meaningful. So enjoying progress is the best.❤

I never had so much fun watching an anime ever till this episode. Gear 5 is the most ridiculously awesome thing i ever saw holy shit.

I can't believe any manga readers were actually disappointed in this episode. They adapted the chapter entirely, they added scenes to show Luffy's transformation we never got in the manga, enhanced the entire Gorosei scene with the intercut scenes of Luffy jumping around, and went full on Looney Tunes. Manga readers wanted more gear 5 like they didn't read the chapter, you literally only see Gear 5 for like, 4 pages out of 17 in the chapter. So perfect, worth the wait, cannot wait, One Piece anime has become must watch for me going forward as long as the animation keeps up after Wano.

I am an anime only and I loved it. Was not expecting the looney tunes like animation. But damm, I loved it.

What I loved is a nice little detail in the animation where Luffy's standing up and his body deforms and bounces around like his heart is drumming louder and stronger than the rest of his body. Like in cartoons when a character's heart bounces out of their chest.

Most people agree that some of the more popular Shounen anime protagonists are based of Sun Wukong from Journey to The West. Like Goku or Naruto. This could apply to Luffy to. But I think that he is based of more of Wukong's inspiration, Hanuman, a monkey faced god from Hindu mythology. As a child he wanted the sun. Thinking it was a fruit. Hanuman is also called the son of the deity Vayu (Wind god).

It builds up such a gloriously ominous feeling that things are dark now, and they may very well grow darker before the end but also that there IS an unshakable force of good coming to save the day and spread hope among the opressed peoples of the world.

I will say that noone is able to showcase the Toon force better than Luffy as he is the representation of Freedom and pure Joy

One Piece is the greatest story ever told. You can see the 20 years of build up to Sanji's backstory, and now we go back and you can see all the little signs and hints that it wasn't just a rubber fruit. I was thinking Luffy might be Lunarian before we got an explanation about his awakening but it makes perfect sense now. I have not run into a story before that is so expertly crafted!! Basically he’s just a gag character now he bends the rules of his universe, I don’t recall any zoan affecting objects and floors like a paramecia, like hacki does nothing to him, he still has that rubbery effect in his body and the way he punches through kaido like a cartoon and him alone bouncing a fire blast, he makes no sense bc he’s legit messing with reality in a cartoony way.

Its uninhibited and free animation to the greatest extremes with as much chaos as possible, that parallels the themes in the story and Sun god nika bringing smiles to everyone around him well also being unshackled to do what luffy wants in a world that is subjugated by its authority and justice of the Government. this is really how oda wanted to represent luffy's new form and I think its very unique and something never done before and its luffy personified to every degree. It fits perfectly to the themes of one piece. What more to say other then oda's is a genius!!

It's like the Nika fruit is real enough to break the 4th wall and make all of us smile 😄

This is both same and different one piece... It's the same goofy antiques of Luffy, but at an epic scale.. Gear 5 Nika form is the literal embodiment of true boundless freedom.... That is represented visually as looney toon animation style (where imagination is the limit.. not the physics)... And Secondly His body and the surroundings also turn into Rubber... After this awakening... And the warrior of liberation is said to bring pure joy and laughter... Which is physically done by Gear 5 with the looney goofy effects... It has on the surroundings as well as people around... Kaido himself is loonified! Luffy's fighting style has always been goofy and this took it to the next level... And the animator struck the exact balance between over-the-top goofiness of Luffy, funny, laughter, joy and keeping it equally epic with the tone... Kudos to the animators ! Getting it right was way more difficult than it seems... and I was worried how it would turn out at some level, But they did it perfectly !! And this transformation perfectly fits Luffy as a character, his personality, his goofiness all along (as Even luffy's fighting style is goofy from the beginning.. and Oda intended his main character's power to be funny.. that's the reason he gave Luffy Gomu Gomu no mi), and also the themes of freedom, liberation that Luffy stands for completely match with the warrior of liberation Sun God Nika - Joyboy... And putting a smile on everyone's face.... Absolute genius by Oda sensei...!! He is the 'warrior of liberation' (just like Luffy) and it is his fruit.. Most probably Joyboy had the same fruit... And awakened it then... Only after 800 years Luffy awakened it. And Luffy may not even realise it's a different power or it's an awakening... He mostly thinks it's next level of his gears... Hence, he called it gear 5. What a time to be experiencing this first hand while fully caught up and understanding every nuance Oda sensei intended us to feel.

I watch this morning this episode (The website was in problem for all the people visiting for see it) and that was a really awesome episode. As a manga reader, i waiting so long to see it in Anime. It's really good to see Luffy at the best version and also (for my opinion) the return of the original first episode of One Piece. It's like Dragon Ball Super going back to the source of Dragon Ball. Really good animation and sound. Apparently, all the thing Luffy touch with his Gear 5 actived turn into "Loney Tune" version. That's why Kaido look goofy and funny too. For later in the Manga, i don't know if he can share his power of his limitless power to his crew too. And Oda troll us with the type of Devil fruit of Luffy. It's not a Paramecia but a Zoan , Human-Human fruit , Mythological version Nika. So just like Chopper but with a devil fruit which let Luffy "freedom" to imaginate all he can imaginated.

Warner Bros seeing this episode be like: Alright, we are seeing peak cartoon Like i'm worried for the sound effects because Warner Bros are not gonna like it, Toei is using copyright sounds I'm glad they are brave, and i think Toei just go with it. But i mean, Warner Bros will be happy about this episode. I doubt they will be mad but this episode is peak, Luffy's gear 5

i loved every second of this episode but as i'm watching it i literally said out loud to myself "alot of people are going to hate this episode animation" but they are failing to realize this is exactly how it should be. The sound effects the animation the fun. Can't wait for 1072.
