But as someone who grew up in NZ, back then petrol was under $1 per litre. So that $1500 would have gone far. Heck, these days I wouldn't turn down $1500 in petrol!
The cost of appliances such as the VCR, washing machine, etc - cheaper today than back then, even with inflation and higher costs.... but we're built to last, unlike today's cheaper, plastic things
"You've won a night for 2 at the Invercargill Cobb N Co Motor Lodge ?.to think 8 years later Hawkesby cost the Taxpayers 7-8 million to payout his employment contract. It was definitely "In the bag " for him indeed that year
this is a Bernina sewing machine it is also the top of the line model and is one of the first computerized sewing machines while being expensive they are very high quality sewing machines
The ladies loved their perms in the 80's didn't they? And a year's supply of petrol was $1500? I consider it a win to PAY that much now. Hillary Timmins was a smoke show though, so there's that.
Dirt poor.. All Socialist were in those days, but we were happy. Now New Zealand is a free market economy, only two thirds of the country have to live in the gutter, while the landed gentry kiwis look down their noses and scoff.
They would have been good back then though :) The prizes on the most recent version with Pio Terei as host were pretty shit in comparison lol Most prizes are valued under about 700 and Pio starts off at like $200 😂 Its on Māori TV Though so they probably get bugger all funding
@@CallemJay_McNeill When this was originally filmed New Zealand was still a Socialist State and it aired on the one channel New Zealand had at the time. The prizes were utter rubbish and it would cost nearly a years wages to afford anything back then, mind you the way N.Z is now that's probably still true.
@@starquant : What are you on about, ("the one channel New Zealand had at the time"). We had already gotten a 2nd t.v channel way back in the mid '70s! TV2. While in '89 when this episode was on t.v., our 3rd channel began transmission: TV3. "New Zealand was still a Socialist State " is an odd comment too.
@@lefunk22 My comment said "when it originally aired". I was talking about when it first aired on New Zealand television which was around 1973, (not this particular episode). If you lived when New Zealand was Socialist, then you would understand how expensive everything was and how little you actually got for your money. If you were born "after" Rogernomics then you would only know N.Z as a Free Market Economy (Capitalist).
