What bothers me most about the story with the escaping dog is how he thinks that “she has never said no before” is a valid argument. People are allowed to change their minds about what they’ll put up with, but it wasn’t even that much of a change! He admits she’s ALWAYS had an issue with it but finally set a firm boundary- what’s wrong with her taking the next step? That’s just such a bad way to view things no matter what it’s about. And not feeling good is a perfectly decent reason for not doing any number of things you might normally do. It’s like getting angry at someone for not cleaning up after you when they have a cold. “Well you USUALLY do it” or “you’ve never said no BEFORE”… that reaction doesn’t make any sense, it just screams spoiled behavior to me… even more evidence of that with how most of his family backed him up. And it’s not like she’s neglecting her own responsibility, he’s mad that she won’t help him fix his mistake which is a whole other level of entitled. Could she have been more compassionate? Maybe. But maybe not. We truly don’t know how sick she was feeling… but for HIM to accuse her of showing a “lack of empathy” is seriously the pot calling the kettle black. The loving and compassionate thing for him to do would be to deal with his own mistake and let her rest. One could argue that even asking the second time was already rude of him.

Dang. I’m very much a dog person and I don’t think I would blow up at my pregnant fiancé for not being able to help me fix my own mistake. She’s already curled up on the couch from nausea ffs!

As both a dog lover and service dog partner, I understand where Peanut's owner was coming from, but she was in the wrong. She may have thought Peanut didn't misbehave, but there's a huge difference between not misbehaving (especially in the owner's eyes) and acting appropriately for the space that the dog was in. Was Peanut going up to other customers to "say hi?" Was she tugging at the end of her leash? Sniffing produce? Or, even worse, was she in the cart? All of these things threaten the rights of actual disabled people who genuinely need real service animals. Even if Peanut didn't cause trouble, there's a good chance the next service dog owner who visits that store will face increased scrutiny and/or access challenges because of Peanut's behavior - which, while it may not have been terrible, was almost certainly not up to the standards of a service animal with hundreds of hours of public access training (and hundreds more in task training). Also, I know multiple people who have had to retire their service dogs *years* early because some stranger's "good little doggy" was taken into a store "for just a few minutes" and attacked the service animal. Those attacks can cause both physical and psychological trauma, and can force an animal with years of training into early retirement, leaving their handler severely incapacitated - sometimes for *years* as they either wait for another service animal to be available or for a new animal to complete its training (not to mention the thousands of dollars involved in either purchasing or training a new service dog). So even if Peanut is usually friendly, the owner couldn't completely predict how Peanut would react to seeing another dog in such a strange place - especially since Peanut was likely already feeling stressed (as most untrained dogs are when taken into stores like that). Taking your dog into a store for a few minutes because it's convenient for you could cost a disabled person years of freedom and independence should your pet harm their service dog. It happens way too often. Tl;dr: Please don't take pets into public stores/restaurants that don't routinely welcome them. Aside from health codes, etc, you're also threatening the rights, and perhaps even the safety and independence, of people who rely on their highly trained canine partners having access to those places in order to live a normal life.

As a self verified "crazy cat lady" THANK YOU for saying that cats don't get the same respect that dogs do. I would be scared, crying, and going to the worse possible scenario if my house cat found a way out of my house. Needless to say I would need help and the fact that nobody helped him really angers me. Her name is Oreo Cheesecake; she's black and white and very small for an 11 year old cat. Due to her size, it would be pretty difficult to find her if someone let her out.

My dog (a 45 lbs husky-eskimo mix) used to scale the 8ft privacy fence at her old house, they never took her out of the house and she did it every day just to get her energy out. I have grown up around dog trainers my entire life it would probably be a problem with the dog not getting enough enrichment or attention. My dog has never had that problem at my house and has never ran away because we take her on walks and do a lot with her. A lot of people don't understand if they get a high energy dog like a heeler they need to actually exercise it.

i've got a bunny named sugar and you bet that if somebody let him out of the house i'd act the exact same way. he's free roamed so that could happen very easily and i don't care. it's so dangerous for pets to be let out. i get that people got their own things going on, but cmon she was warned about it 3 times. seriously i can't imagine how she, who's been living with this cat for a while, "forgot" about him so many times. seems more like neglect

Fun fact! Corgi's are also a type of cattle herding dog, they were bred to be short so that cows can't aim a kick at them, they're known to be very hardworking and nip at the cattle's heels to tell them where to go :D (this is also why heeler's have their name) So a corgi/heeler mix isn't that weird, as long as the dad was the corgi for the safety of mum and pups!

I completely agree about cats getting the short end of the stick as far as consideration goes. Most stores have a full aisle for dog treats, toys, etc and the cats get an end cap of an aisle. Our cutie is turning 1 next month and his name is Huey. He is a bengal and his head stripes even look like an "H".

It is also not a good idea to bring a non service animal into a public place like a grocery store because there could be a person there who has a service dog for a serious condition and the service dog could become distracted by the non service dog, which could cause some serious problems.

I couldn’t stop myself from thinking that this fiancé in the last story isn’t up to the task (any of the tasks, actually). If I were in his fiancée’s place I would be questioning the whole thing. Like, is someone who thinks that their dog running away from the house every week is an okay behavior even ready to be a parent? Like… how responsible is this person? Do I want to have and raise a child with them? Will they be a good caretaker to a child when they are this irresponsible with a dog? Do I even want to marry them anymore? Idk… I wouldn’t.

I really appreciate what you said about how people act about cats. I have two, Phoebe and Jasper, and they're both indoor kitties and people regularly act like I'm being a crazy cat lady for being strict about not letting them out and not being willing to leave them alone in my apartment for days at a time. They're mischievious little creatures with claws that are entirely my responsibility to keep safe, of course I'm serious about them staying inside and making sure they're checked on at least once a day lol

I agree with the what you said about cats not being respected the same way that dogs are. Like just last week my mom asked me to drive her to Idaho right after a wedding (that's a 4 hour drive for me) and to spend the night at my sister's place. I told her no because of my cat, Winry. We had just moved to a new place so we don't know anyone that could watch her. And we can't afford to pay anyone. We got the suggestion to just leave enough food for her and drive anyway. But that's not a good idea because she has portion control issues. She's overweight and will 100% eat all the food in the first 2 hours and be starving the rest of the time. We've been tryin to lower her food so she looses weight and this would undo much of our work. If she was a dog, no one would even question my reason for saying no.

I have a cat. We got him from my husband's parents when they were thinking of getting rid of him. My husband had taught him how to give hi-5's, so of course we had to take him in. His name is Frost and he was de-clawed as a kitten I guess. We are very adamant that he doesn't get let out because on top of all the other issues, he wouldn't be able to defend himself from other animals. He could easily get hurt or killed.

I don't have any pets but my friend has a cat named biscuit who is an indoor cat and is the best milk bottle cap hunter and will always bring them around the house showing everyone his catch of the day

I got a cat named Mido and I loved him more than I love myself. He's everything to me and I don't know what I'd do if anything were to happen to him, so I 100% understand that cat owner being pissed at the sister for not putting the cat in the room and letting it go outside. If your sibling is kind enough to offer you shelter in your time of need, the LEAST you can do is follow the rules they have set in place and respect their home and anyone living in it.

We got our first dog a couple of years back and he only managed to slip out the front door to very excitedly greet whichever poor delivery man had rung the bell a couple of times before we perfected the knack of shooing him into the nearest room and shutting him in. Bless him but Finn now thinks that this is what Must Be Done whenever the bell goes and he’ll happily push the door closed himself and watch through the glass panels 😅

We have three dogs, Millie (black Labrador, nearly 13), Daisy (golden retriever, nearly 11) and Holly (Saint Bernard, 6) We have two cats, Maisy (brown and white tabby cat, nearly 13) and Goose (ginger merchant of Chaos disguised as a cat, nearly 1) And we have two turtles, Leo and Loki (yellow belly sliders, approx 11 ish) And if you want a happy story here you go, last week Millie went in for a scan at the vets and they found a giant mass on her spleen, and we thought they would have to put her down, especially if it was encroaching on other organs. They operated (to see how wide spread it was and if it was removable) the next day, and were able to remove it. So this time last week we thought it was the last night we would ever have with Millie, and one week later, she is doing well after having a 2.8 kg tumour removed and all her other organs look good. (She seems mostly annoyed about the fact I keep appearing out of nowhere to drape blankets on her😂)

I’m so glad you said what you said about the first clip, I’m trying to fund a service dog for myself so I’ve done a lot of research and it’s so important for the legitimacy and safety of service dog teams that people leave their pets and emotional support animals at home rather than bringing them in public places. Even really well behaved pets can lash out when they’re scared and anxious which they’re going to be in busy public environments that they’re not used to. There are reasons Service dogs need to have the right temperament and a ton of public access training to be allowed in public but pets and ESAs don’t have that training and aren’t allowed in public because it’s not safe to them or other people. Whether it’s barking, going to the bathroom, snapping at a kid who pulls its tail because it’s scared, or getting in the way of genuine service dog teams who are just trying to move through life with fewer barriers there are genuine reasons dogs aren’t allowed in stores and it’s important to follow these rules for the safety and comfort of everyone involved.

When I name my pets, I find names from mythology that seem to suit them. The 2 cats I currently have are both rescues. The calico is named Iris, after the Greek goddess of the rainbow because of her multiple colors. The tabby is named Oba, after an African river spirit who was tricked into cutting off her own ear. I named her this because when she showed up outside my house, her ear was clipped from a local Trap, Neuter, & Release organization. If I didn't find the name Oba, I would have broken from my tradition & called her Vinny after Vincent van Gogh.

Miss Jamie is an indoor cat who occasionally gets to walk in the backyard with her harness and leash. She's microchipped, but she doesn't wear her collar inside because she has frequently injured herself trying to get it off. Where I live is HER HOME, and her safety and wellbeing in that space is more important than a guest who doesn't follow the rules!

Side note, Corgis are actually a hoarding dog--that's why they have a propensity to nip at heels. So that mix kind of makes sense.

I have an 8yo black cat named Riker. We rescued her as a kitten from an island/sidewalk between two separating streets when she was a kitten. We've always guessed somebody dumped her because she was 'bad luck" because she was a black cat. She is an indoor cat, has never run away when the doors are open, and seems to correlate me sitting down in a specific chair with it being time for me to pet her.

I have a guinea pig called Armageddon lol (we used to have another, called Pigwidget, but she is sadly no longer with us)

I had a border collie who took off on or off the lead. She was born on a farm, so we tried to always have enough space and walk her daily - some times multiple times a day. That being said, she also took off from home quite a bit. She would have been 20 this year, bless her wee soul. Her son is her only surviving family member and such a rock in my adult life. I love him to bits. He'll be 11 this year. We got him a sister after his mum passed away. She'll be turning six.

Agreed with you on all points. Only genuine service animals in stores. Don't let someone else's pet out if they've told you not to. The last guy needs to be taking the dog to a dog park, or hire a dog walker if he doesn't have time every day. Here is a completely irrelevant but funny story about my cat Squijum. One time I left a cardboard box in the living room for him to play with. Unfortunately, I was a negligent cat servant and put the box in the same spot where the sun would hit when he wanted to take his mid-morning nap. Shame on me! But Squijum decided he could forgive me this once. He looked at the box, circled around it a couple of times, looked at the sun, and did a bit of trigonometry in his head (I could actually see the calculations going on as he looked back and forth from the box to the sun). Finally, he put his head down and shouldered the box to the side, in the right direction so that it wouldn't be blocking the sun again in an hour, then plopped down in the sunny spot and took his nap. He was much younger then; now he would just sit and look at me until I get up and move the box for him like a proper servant.

our dog Kiki used to run away a lot when we first got her. she's a very independent lady and does what she wants. scared us to death when she would run, but she just kept digging so many holes under the fence, even after my mom got it replaced, that eventually we gave up trying to run after her. we knew she'd come back. were we worried? of course. even a street smart girl like her could still get hit, but there wasn't much we could do (she hated going on walks at the time). but OP's fiancée's attitude is the exact attitude my mom started to have (and Kiki was her dog!) whenever Kiki ran away, and my mom wasn't pregnant or nauseated. we figured out why Kiki was running away and it stopped (mostly--she still runs off for a short bit every once and a while now, almost like she just wants to prove that she can). OP was definitely the AH, and i would've dumped him for what he said too. those words stick with you. and he doesn't seem to understand how cruel he was.

For #2 I would be so upset if someone kept letting my cats out! I'm terrified they're going to get out on the balcony and fall down, so we are super careful. If we had someone come stay and they left the door open I'd flip. By the way my cat names are Penguin and Rabbit.

Speaking of indoor cats I grew up with a lot of cats in the house. The most we had at anyone time was 5. When we got to a point with only 3 in the house we had 2 girl cats and a boy cat and the older girl cat Duffy was an indoor cat. She was half deaf and very shy. When it got to a point where we couldn't keep the cats in the house any longer we had to find the right home for Duffy cus she would need somewhere quiet and calm. Thankfully for me and for her a friends of minds step dad was looking for an indoor housecat to come live on his house boat with him so that's where Duffy lives now.

I completely agree that the 2nd person is NTA. If one of the kids were allergic to something and she kept buying that food and laying it out it would be a huge deal. Cats are so freaking sensitive to so many plants and knowing that this cat likes to eat plants means it cannot go outside. I always am careful when I go to someone's place to not let out the animals no matter what kind, the outside is a scary place. The sister had no respect and got the consequences. The kitty could have gotten very sick or worse. Saying it is "over nothing" is infuriating. PS my kitty's name is River and she is precious 3rd story that person needs to get a better solution. I know it can take some time to figure out how they are escaping but this has probably gone on way to long. If it happened more than a couple times and i couldn't figure it out then I would put the dog on a lead in the yard. They have plenty of options that give lots of room. And yes that kind of breed needs long walks probably several times a day. Or to go to the dog park or something. You can't just get one of the most high energy dogs and expect it to be ok in the back yard.

That last guys dog is definitely escaping because its not getting enough exercise/enrichment. Corgis are really high energy dogs. I have a friend with 2 and she walks them for about two hours every day. If they don't get enough exercise they go crazy.

Fun fact, Corgis are actually a herding dog too. So that little Heeler/Corgi cross is just REALLY wanting to go herd some cows! Dude, you need to find some outlet for that dog's energy and curiosity. You are NOT being responsible if it's escaping EVERY week and at every two-second opportunity. Take your dog to a trainer. Don't SEND her to a trainer, you need training too. I have a houseful of pets. First up, Pippin Waggins-Longbottom, the canine Hobbit, AKA Basset Hound. She is in training to become a Therapy dog eventually. She scales her greeting to the energy of the person she's meeting, and has learned to be careful of mobility equipment. My favorite interactions with her are when she meets a fragile old lady in a wheelchair and gently rests her chin on a knee and just looks at them, or when she meets a toddler and is TRYING to sit still but her tail is wagging so hard her butt bounces. Next, Pumpkin Spice Puppy, who is not a puppy at nine years old, but IS still a spicy little Chihuahua mix. She's very shy and avoids meeting strangers if at all possible. She will play fetch for hours, and if she DOES decide she likes you, she will ask for neverending belly rubs. On to the cats - PopTart, the diva bitch who is either desperately seeking pets OR trying to kill everyone, Miss Ninja Bear, who was a stray, then became my barn cat, then moved into the house and will not walk on the floor. Then there are the rescue kitties...Percival, Bors, and Galahad. They were born to a feral cat I'd been feeding, and when her milk dried up early, she brought them to me, scolded them when they tried to bite as they had never been handled, and ran off. So I hand-raised these three lunatics...I'm currently looking for homes for them but as they ARE fourth-generation feral, they are a little wary of anyone who isn't me. (they're all fixed already)

My current pets are named Salem and Joker :) Salem is a little 4 year old black cat and Joker is a 9 year old pitbull/boxer mix! Salem is a very solitary baby, she doesn't get close and will only tolerate a few seconds of pets before she gently bites you to tell you she's done, but she absolutely loves Joker. She rubs herself on his legs and headbutts him constantly, she always wants to be near him. He, on the other hand, gives us the biggest, saddest eyes whenever she's showering him with affection. It's a total "save me!!" look, but he puts up with it and doesn't growl at her unless she's in playmode because she tends to go after feet and hands when you're least expecting it. She wasn't socialized properly (we found her abandoned at 6 weeks old and she hasn't been around another cat since) so we weren't able to teach her not to bite hard. We're trying to retrain her and play with her more, tho!

I have a tortoise named Tommy, he's like 80+ years old and altho hes exclusively a garden animal (except when he is hybernating) I am ALWAYS ever so careful to make sure things like the garden gate is always shut when other people are coming through (such as family, friends, etc) and I always go around to look for him at least twice a day to make sure he is still in the garden cos you would be amazed at the adventures that little guy likes to go on. Many neighbours have found him digging a burrow in their gardens and flower beds. If anyone is interested btw, when he hybernates we put him in a box with some hay and newspaper and soil, cover it in a blanket, put it in another box, and put it under a workbench in the garage. The garage has no heating so it's a good simulation of being in a burrow in a mild winter, but keeps him warm enough that he isn't in danger of freezing to death or anything, as he would be if he was in a burrow outside.

I have two lovely cats. Lilly and Lucy. 1. YTA. When your dog isn't a service dog, they don't belong in a grocery store even if it's for "just 10 minutes" 2. NTA. Told them multible time and they didn't even help look for the cat! 3. YTA. When it happens regularly, why don't you train your dog or put him on one of those long leashes when they are outside. Your 5 months pregnant wife who is growing a human inside her and is exhausted did not deserve those words. Also, she might have been a bit more snappy about it due to pregnancy hormones, so give her a break.

I have two black GSD brothers , Atticus and Hugo ( they are 3 years old) and a African Albino Clawed frog named Eloise , everyone in the family spoils her by bringing her a new rock for her tank from their travels, she has pieces of Italy, Iceland, Sweden, Costa Rica, Mexico, Dominican Republic, England, France, Scotland, Spain and Japan in her tank so far ,she is 4 years old ( my last AACF, Albina was 28 years old when she passed)

My grumpy old lady cat, Ziggy, is 12. She's very small, probably was the runt of the litter but we're not entirely sure, and has never been an outdoor cat, she never goes out without a harness and leash on unless she's in a carrier. If my sister, or any family member, continually showed such negligence to her well being, KNOWING full well how much her grumpy butt means to me, I would be furious. Such blatant disregard for what's important to someone you claim to care about is absolutely infuriating and I hope that cat parent takes some time to collect herself and cool off before they have to see their sister again because, if it were me, someone would be getting the verbal lashing of a lifetime.

Corgies are actually herding dogs too, so that mix makes sense. What doesn't make sense though is that a person who clearly doesn't train or exercise their dog would get that kind of mix... This is a prime example of "don't buy a dog without research, just because it's cute". Yeah, the queen had corgies. But she not only had many of them that would tire themselves out, but also a lot of staff, and probably trainers, that would take care of them... I used to have a big floofy Chow chow named Teddy. He sadly passed away suddenly 4 years ago, right before he turned 5. He suffered a spinal hernia that left his lower half completely paralyzed and without any sensation, while the rest of his back hurt so badly not even morphine helped.. I still miss that stubborn dustcloud every single day ❤ And I damn well studied up about the breed and made sure that no matter how stubborn and pigheaded he was, I would be worse. I would love to get another one, but I live with chronic pain and has just had to accept that if I want another dog, it'll have to be a smaller one. You have to see your limitations. YOU choose your pet, they can't choose where they end up..

Pet names: 4 cats. Sushi - very fat when I adopted her, so...she was rolly. Caprice - This was her name at the shelter but it means a sudden or unaccountable change in mood or behaviour. I adopted her somewhat spontaneously after she literally grabbed me through the bars of the cage. Vesper - tuxedo cat. Synonym for dusk or twilight. Not quite day, not quite night. She is both black and white. Dumblydore - because he was far too silly to be Dumbledore.

In the US, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) FORBIDS demanding proof that your animal is a service animal. (It still happens all the time of course.) I learned this from meeting a hearing impaired woman at a county board meeting. Her service dog, a Pomeranian, was ALWAY in her arms. The dog alerted her to the doorbell, telephone, smoke alarm, etc. And she was continually told her dog wasn’t allowed in public buildings / she had to show “proof” the dog was a service animal. She was in tears as she begged the Board of Supervisors to inform store owners that they had to stop the harassment. I sympathize with people who suffer from allergies: perfume allergies, peanut allergies, pet allergies, … I sympathize far more with the disabled, who are constantly being told that their accommodation needs are “inconveniencing” us.

Depending on the breed of Heeler (especially if it’s a blue heeler) they can grow pretty tall, plus they can jump well over 6ft at times. So I’m not surprised a heeler mix could scale a 8ft privacy fence. However taking into consideration how small corgis are I’d be interested to see the size of Op’s dog tbh. It’d be quite intriguing to know what the dominant genes are, yanno?

My neighbor's dog scaled a 7-ish foot fence and jumped down right in front of me and my dog, Sheba. Thing is, Sheba's an ex-stray who has serious issues around other dogs and does NOT get along with them. Luckily, the neighbor's dog realized he was in someone else's territory and was very submissive when Sheba came over, but I still about had a heart attack trying to get her away and inside the house without letting her see my anxiety, since her own anxiety is what makes her attack other dogs and I didn't want mine to rub off. Once I managed it (don't worry, no one was hurt), I took the neighbor's dog back to them, told them their dog could scale the fence, and explained that Sheba has a history of attacking other dogs. I think they put their dog on a lead/runner instead of letting him have free run of the yard, but either way, he hasn't gotten back into our yard since. It only took them once. If this guy's dog is jumping the fence weekly, he needs to do something different NOW.

My dog is named Briggs and he's a boxer / Plott hound mix. He doesn't run off due to his anxiety, but yeah, they're basically like having a forever-toddler in a lot of ways. Mine's been sick for a while, so I've been worried, but he seems to be slowly getting better.

Pet names! My mother, sister, and I love giving people names to them, my dad not so much. My cats are Dominic and Luna; Mam’s dog is Bryn; sister’s dog is Ella, her cats are Daisy, Clive, and Fluffy (originally my grandmother’s cat who she adopted after grandma snuffed it); dad’s cats are Trouble and Smokey. I agree completely on the ‘cats get less respect’ thing, honestly the way some people talk about their hatred of cats, they sound unhinged. I’m arachnophobic, and I don’t talk about spiders the way some of these lunatics rant about people’s pets. It’s always for the most hilariously asinine reasons, too - long, raving descriptions of the slow death they want to enact on a living creature because “cats dunt com runin up 2 u lik a dog do”. Can’t help but think it’s tied into the weird concept of cats being a more ‘feminine’ pet.

Im gonna play devils advocate here. People bring infants and toddlers that are either held, in the metal shopping cart booty down, or walking around.. in diapers. Farting, burping, puking, pooping and peeing. I think the real question is, should the dog have been secured in a bag/backpack/purse - like a baby in a carrier. To minimize interactions and messes. A lot of people have pets because they do not want children, can't afford a child, or unable to have children. So their pet does become a baby to them. But the culture around American's "do whatever I want" has ruined the oppertunity to be more inclusive when it comes to pets and public spaces. I think her not leaving the dog in the car and getting a ticket was the lesser of the two evils in this situation regardless. I have a miniature poodle cocker spaniel mix named Lucy who turned 4 years old on December 25. She's a mischievous pupper and always tries to sneak out when we open the door. A couple months after we got her, she managed to get out of our backyard while we were playing with her and she hadn't learned "come here" yet so she ran across the street and decided to play tag and me and my mom were it. We managed to get her back on our side of the street and back into our house. I was terrified that she was going to run into the road and a car was going to come around the bend and not see her. It was the scariest 5 minutes of my life. We are a lot more cautious with her now. Also, it always breaks my heart when I tell her I'm going shopping at the people store and she has to stay and guard the house because they don't let doggies in the people stores only the puppy stores. She always looks at me with her big brown sad eyes. But I never even thought to take her into a store because "I'm only going to be a few minutes." She stays at home because that's the way the rules are and they're in place for a reason. I've taken her to the pet store and brought her back home to literally go back to the exact same street (literally next door) to go do my grocery shopping.

What stood out to me about the cat story was that the sister didn't try and look for the cat herself, at least based on the story. Letting the cat outside three times in the same way is bad enough, but not even trying to help look for the cat is so uncaring and rude. Also, I have three cats; Misty (a siamese), Newt (a dark tabby), and Jersey (a white cat with black spots).

I would 100% kick someone out of my house for refusing to make the effort to ensure my cat didn't escape. Yes!! My mother in law's ex husband left the door wide open and the cat got out when he wasn't looking (she wasn't home at the time). Then later he heard the cat meowing but just thought she was somewhere inside and didn't' want to get up off the couch to check. So now the cat is gone and mother-in-law is really sad about it. It's been 2 weeks and he said to her, "Why are you still upset about this? It's just a cat." Which really upset me cuz I loved that cat too. Plus I had just taken the car to the vet and gave her meds for an inner ear infection which wasn't cheap! So even if he didn't care about the cat he should at least care about the money and the ppl who love the cat... He's so dang selfish!

One male cat called Ohnezahn (the german name for toothless) that especially during the warm day comes once a day for food, an elegant lady named whiskey, who doesn't like to get herself dirty and is therefore home alot, and the last cat is called bienchen (diminutive of bee). She has epilepsy and has to take meds 3 times a day. After she went missing for a week because she had a seizure and couldn't find her way home she became a house cat. If someone would let her out of the house I'd be furious!

I’m late but you you mentioned names of our pets so I wanted to pop in and tell you that my husband and I have a lovely hairless rat (I know some people get freaked but they are absolute loves and just want snuggles and play time and to give tiny kisses that you can barely feel with their little tongues lol). His name is Vincent. He has a ton of nicknames though including little monster (because he’s a treat monster, either grabbing them right away if awake or if you hand him one while he’s sleeping he’ll usually not even open his eyes, just grab it and munch hahaha), Lima Bean and Pancake. (The last because when he sleeps he just curls and flattens lol). We love him so deeply. The shitty part is that rats don’t live long and he’s an elderly boy now. A big part of why I wanted to post this is because I’m getting more uncertain how much time is left and I want to share his incredible existence. 4:09 I’ve also seen dogs whose people have gone into a store for a quick ten min, who left the car running with their dog in the car (obviously locking the doors!!). I’ve also seen dogs in that situation with signs that say, “the car is running, AC/heat is on, and my person will be right back! Please don’t break window, I promise I am safe!” Maybe not the best for the environment, but definitely the best option if you don’t want to go home first

I have a seal bicolor ragdoll girl named Arya, because her breeding station was called Daenerys Lillien and one of her ancestors in her pedigree was called Tyrion of the Thrones. My parent's dog Marley got kicked out of a dog daycare because she scaled a 9ft fence separating the large and small dogs (she was in the small category) and then spent the duration of her visit trying to mount every large dog to assert dominance (she was fixed just chaotic and must be the boss of everything). The staff were horrified at her behavior (most the jumping the fence, I guess they kept bringing her back to the small dogs and she just continued to jump the fence every time). So yeah. I can imagine a corgi/heeler jumping an 8 foot fence. Marley is a mutt but she definitely has some sort of herding dog in her, and she is very small.

I have a creamy orange cat named Jasper, he’s 19 years old. As for the last dog story, corgis are herding dogs too & require a lot of activity, they’re also very intelligent so stuff like puzzles where they have to find treats or toys to keep them entertained is important.

I have a dog that would always run away when he found the door open, he never tried to actually scape but we were constantly chasing him and we never treated someone the way he did even though they weren't careful when they opened the door. That is such violent behavior for something that shouldn't make him panic as much, if you are chasing your dog on a weekly basis you get to a point where you kinda know where they go, and a pregnant sick woman is not in the -emotional- condition to go look every time because he couldn't find a better solution for the dog's scape.

I've got two cats, Oot and Floki. Oot likes to try and get outside or into our garage if someone isn't paying attention and doesn't shut the door behind them properly, and Floki almost always tries to follow her. He won't actually leave if he's on his own, but if and when she goes, so does he. Luckily we've only had one incident (with Oot, at 10pm, on a school night, during a rainstorm. And did I mention she's a black cat?) and that was lack of attention on my dad's part, but it's one of my biggest fears when we have large gatherings with people who don't know the cats or the rules as well as we do. You compared OP's cat to a child, and you're absolutely right. Any good pet owner would agree with the fact that we view them as just as important as any other family member! Side note, we also have a turtle named Tsar. We ended up finding out that she was a girl about nine months after we got her, but Tsar had already stuck as her name haha!

When I adopted my cat, the shelter made it very clear that one of the conditions of adopting her was that she under no circumstances be let outside. They take this rule incredibly seriously, to the point that if they found out that I let her outside (say for example she gets lost and they see the report on a lost pet website before I find her again), they will take the cat back. They're a no-kill shelter where cats get forever homes there if they're not adopted (I got to play with some of the sweet babies who weren't adoptable). The safety of their animals is their absolutely highest priority. It's in the contract I had to sign: no going outside or else you surrender her back to us. All of that plus the fact my neighborhood has feral cats and a couple aggressive dogs, so she could be in real danger outside. I would be *infuriated* if I explained this to someone and they *still* managed to let my cat out. How hard is it to watch out when you open the door? Or put her in a room with no outside access when I'm not home? Granted, I probably wouldn't have kicked my sister and her kids out, but I'd definitely instead just bar them from the garden.

11:10 Corgis are actually herding dogs as well. I had a friend whose corgi hated it when everyone in the house was in different rooms and would try to round up everyone into the same room

Actually, fun fact, Corgis maybe the Queens' dog, but they were originally bred to chase cattle too. Thats why they are such ankle nippers. Honestly, depending on how much it is actually like a corgi. I'd say on top of whatever walks it gets a day, to also multiple time a week take it to a pool. Low impact, high intensity work out for the working breed mix. Also, its funny that its a heeler mix, because my pup Maggie (6 months old) is a heeler mix. We aren’t sure what shes mixed with, we plan on getting her DNA tested at a year. However, she gets at least an hour n a half of sniffy walks. (Where shes allowed to sniff and investigate and she dictates how far we get.) Up to 3 training classes a week (which is a lot, but weirdly, she's thriving on it and is so excited for all her classes.) Gets multiple chews a day, gets a frozen toy, sometimes cardboard drink holders shes allowed to tear up and destroy and gets her meal in puzzle toys. 😂 I adore Maggie and we do a lot with her, but working breeds require a lot. Because we've been so pre-emptive with her. She's hasn’t destroyed any furniture and outside of like 3 baking items hasn’t chewed on things she wasn't supposed too.

My family had a similar situation, with a relative and her kids moving into someone's home, and then behaving incredibly and outrageously disrespectfully, to a criminal degree. They moved out, but then years later tried to come back and pull a similar thing with the same relative. This time she didn't allow them past the front door & it created a huge rift between them, with the disrespectful party playing the victim, claiming how wronged they had been, for not being allowed in again. All I can say to the person who kept letting the cat out and not even helping to find him is, you are not the victim here... if someone is kind to you, you must not repay them with cruelty! PS my pets' names are Mina, Chester and J.D. (my 3 budgies)

Our dog, Riley, is a rescue who ended up at the shelter repeatedly because he kept escaping and running from his owners and eventually they got fed up with him and paying to get him back, that they left him there. Since we got him, he has never ONCE tried to run away. My mum sometimes works in the front garden, and leaves the door open, the dog will either chill on the doorstep or on the grass near her, sometimes he'll go to the end of the drive to say hi to people passing or a doggie friend, but that's it. Not saying we are the best owners, but given how he is with us, I feel like his old owners were part of the reason he kept running. (Along with some other behaviours he had at the start, like being scared of clinking bottles and flinching when you went to pat him. Neither of which he does now. He is the best boy.

My childhood dogs escaped on a semi regular basis, to the point that the local police officers knew them by name and they would just hop in the patrol cars. The reasons that they escaped so often were because 1) our fence was decaying and they found holes to go through, and 2) my sister and I were dumbasses as kids and we were also quite weak so if a 100 lb German Shepherd came barreling toward the door at Mach speed, there wasn’t much we could do to stop it. Btw my cat is named Salem 😊

I have 4 cats - Áine (F short hair red tortie) and Asher (M long hair grey tabby) are both 10 yr old rescues, Callie (F long hair calico) is a 13 yr old lady we adopted from my coworker who couldn't take care of her anymore, and Esther (F short hair Siamese mix) is my 19 yr old precious baby I've had since I was 15. They're all absolute joys with such distinct personalities, and if anyone let any of them repeatedly escape with such callous disregard, I'd kick them out too. Pets are trusting us utterly completely to keep them safe and happy, they cannot survive without us, and we are obligated to provide them with everything we can when we bring them into our lives. They're not lesser just because they can't speak to us.

My very small dog (her name is Amelie) used to climb a 7ft wall to escape after I had to move and left her with my dad. She followed women my age around, and we had to pick her up from countless neighbourhoods, some kilometres away from where she lived. As soon as I brough her to live with me (even though it was pretty complicated), she stopped trying to run away, and even takes a step back when we open the gate (it's really cute). So, OP's dog has some need that isn’t being met, be it exercise, space, company, or whatever. He needs to be a better dog owner and help her.

Cats are environmental menaces and can do lots of damage and should not be outside unsupervised anyway. Honestly eating roses is the best case scenario.

Number three, my instant thoughts as someone who's grown up around a lot of dogs is that if your dog's recall is so bad you can't get it back even just from next door's garden, it's *not trained* which means you are failing as an owner. A Corgi/Heeler mix would be super trainable as well, it's not like it's something like a greyhound that are notoriously bad with recall. Sounds to me like they brought a Corgi because they're small and cute and didn't factor in that they're a working breed who need masses of excercise and training because they've been bred for stamina and intelligence over hundreds of years. A corgi is meant to be keeping pace with cows and problem solving for hours a day, every day. They need long walks, training, and enrichment toys like kongs to keep their brains busy. If anyone is reading this and thinking about getting a dog, please think about what the breed is like and what they require, not just what they look like. Yes every dog is an individual with a personality of its own, but there are also specific traits that have been bred into different types of dogs over centuries, and that impacts character and needs. And if you want an animal that will just sit around looking cute but require minimal effort, get a rabbit, or better yet, a stuffed toy!

That last one? My dude, not only is this whole situation your own fault, which happens on a regular basis, but also... that woman is carrying *your child*, and she is sick because she is carrying *YOUR CHILD*, yet you threaten her to break up because she won't interrupt her oh so selfish vomiting (again, because of YOUR CHILD) to help you fix your own eff up?? If she stays with you, she's a much more patient woman than I would have been.

I have 2 cats, each of them have disabilities (one only has 3 legs and the other is partly blind). I’m currently looking for a new roommate (my current one is moving out to live with their partner), my main rule I will not budge on is making sure the cats do not get out (and generally being safe with them), they will be kicked out. The lease is month to month so if my cats are in danger they will not be renewing their lease. My landlord is being very generous and giving me several months without charging me for the space because they know the concern for my kitties.
